    Blue Murder never got the praise it deserved. It is one of the best progressive metal albums to come out of the 80’s.
    Sykes is one of the most underrated guitarists / song writers and deserves to be among the greats.

    John Sykes; in my humble opinion is the most overlooked guitarist / singer from that era. He is the guy that could blow your head off with his technique, or bring you to tears with one note and some vibrato.

    The first Blue Murder album is simply a “Masterpiece.” I rank it with Queen II, Extreme’s III sides, Kiss’ Destroyer, Eagles’s Hotel, Pink Floyd’s Brick etc I play Blue Murder and all of Sykes’ compositions yearly

    Blue Murder v Grunge. No contest!! Sykes and the band should have been massive, just imagine the albums that could and should have been. What a loss. Valley of the Kings is in the top 10 of the best songs I have ever heard a true master piece. Love you Mr Sykes, heartbreaking that we might never see or here you play again.

    They got ZERO backing promotion from the record company, you didn't hear this on mainstream radio, so therefore you didn't know about it unless you were heavily into the hard rock/heavy metal scene. That's a damn shame, because these guys deserved SO much more attention. They ARE a great band.

    • @ZippyThePinhead
      @ZippyThePinhead ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jayrusnak Not saying that's the case, but Coverdale had been around for awhile at that point, so could be. If so it's damn shame, but it would also show the fear Coverdale had of competition, especially from Sykes. As you said, both bands were too good.

      @OLIE80SCHILD ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It makes sense. Think about it… No matter how much money and begging Coverdale has thrown in front of Sykes to lure him back into Whitesnake even if for a couple shows, he has been flatly turned down! Sykes will never forgive Corverdale for pulling the rug from under him!

    Glad to see Carmine has taken the credit for the 2nd Blue Murder album. I remember buying it when it first came out and quickly realizing that it was Carmine on the drum tracks. His signature style, and that china cymbal, are all over that 2nd album. From the opening fill of We All Fall Down, to the syncopated "boogie" of Love Child, Nothin' But Trouble has Carmine's drumming footprint all over it. The first album is obviously beyond reproach, but the 2nd album is really great as well. Different from the 1st, surprisingly more commercial, but still a wonderful album. Blue Murder is one of the few bands I would pay a large sum of money to see if they ever reunited.

    "...and then grunge hit." Preach it brother! I was in a pretty successful band in the late 80's through the early 90's, and we were going places. Recently signed with a big name manager, and had caught the ear of 2 mid-tier record labels (back then).... "and then grunge hit" and destroyed the hair-metal scene forever. To this day I can't stomach any of those grunge bands. /shrug

    That's not the story John Kalodner tells. He says at some point he just said, you were the guy singing on the demo forget these other guys. That first album is an absolute masterpiece and John sings his ass off on it. Bob Rock had already been polishing turds from other bands and making mediocre musicians sound good; now he had actual virtuosos to work with and he made the most of it. The 2nd was was also good, the problem was you had the first one to compare it to.

Blue Murder just didn't look cool for metal. I think John got depressed and he just disappeared. Blue Murder's first album was really good, but again, they had a weird image.

I don't listen Cactus 🌵 at all. Carmine could be the best overall sitting drummer as we speak. 1.John Bonham 2.Neil Peart 3. Keith Moon 4. Mitch Mitchell 5. Cozy Powell. All these guys are dead so, I'd say it's safe to say Mob Boss Gangster Carmine Appice with Underboss Vinnie Appice are the best American Drummers.

    Grunge came and went! Awful depressive stuff! Ok thats one thing that grunge thing ,if i recall it right the labels were looking for another typ of music due to the overmarketing of rock/hardrock just to build a new market on that grunge or whatever that was? And cold blodedly stopped rock bands from going on and if you have the right kind of supportive marketing team behind you you can even sell garbage and convince buyers/music listeners .... All you people outhere! We have something new for you! And so on. And if grunge messed up the rock music scene and it did partly of course! But how come then big rock names are still outthere playing selling albums it must be due to their hard workmanship lot of years behind them biggest names in the rock department and of course labels playing safe.... Theres still money in these bands lets play it safe! Who knows how long grunge project marketing will hold on? Thats the music bizz.
