Hockey cards peaked in the early 90’s. There were over 15 card manufacturers.
Then they over saturated the market, prices per packet got silly and the market crashed in the 2000’s.

In today's market, NOW it's all about limiting the number of production of "Rookie Cards" of potential up-and-coming "star" players to 99 copies and having the cards personally serial numbered by the player themselves or stamped to show how many were produced.
There are 4 things serious collectors usually look for on a single cardboard:
    1. Cards produced out of 99 (bonus still if you can find their jersey number out of 99, then it has MORE value)
    2. Autographs
    3. Multi-color "patches"
    4. The always rare and hard to find BGS 9.5 Gem Mint or BGS 10 Pristine grade by Beckett

I had a Roy rookie card or like 2nd year card that I traded for Lemieux and 10 Crosby rookie cards. Someone who worked with my mother gave me a bunch of old cards with legends like Scott Stevens, Kurri.. and I got another Lemieux, then I traded Brodeur and a few players for Roy and Greatzky. #STEAL! I also have some all star game cards.

don't know much about the market in USA and CAN...but sold my collection since -17....most notable sales was a mario lemieux rookie topps for 40 USD, an ovechkin YG for 40 USD and a grant fuhr dual patch auto for 20 USD....all in great condition....no damaged corners, good center....in sweeden they don't pay much

I’m of the rare breed that still enjoys Parkhurst cards. I’m trying for a full set of the 2018/19 edition.. but it’s getting hard (and expensive).

These days it's all about the inserts cards or specialty cards which cost an insane amount per pack way out of the reach of kids and teens. common cards are worthless.

As a traditionalist I LOATHE Upper Deck and refuse to buy anything they put out. It has no value in my mind. In 1990 they jumped into the fray and ruined what had been a nice affordable hobby established by O-Pee-Chee & Parkhurst. UD and others of their ilk put out too many sets year after year flooding the market with cards. Ever since I have bought the Post 1989 O-Pee-Chee cards or nothing at all. Go to hell Upper deck
