No amount of money could ever replace the pure joy that kids had from collecting, trading, flicking, and scrambling these hockey cards back in the 1970's. As kids, we didn't care very much at all about a cards condition ... it was all about collecting the complete series for that particular year, and then checking the players/teams off on each of the checklist cards.
Maybe a follow up video, showing same cards and their appreciation. The last auction sale of a PSA - Mint 10, OPC Gretzky rookie was over 4.5 Million CAN
I have Jean Beliveau and Al Arbour 1953-54 Parkhurst Rookie Cards. They are not in the greatest shape because my dad used a corner sticker that they used in old photo books to place them in a book. I have the Gretzky too but it has soft corners and a slight indent on the top left corner. Need to get them graded just to see.
I recently acquired a 1980 Wayne Gretzky OPC 2nd year - PSA 9 - but the back says printed by Topps. This is the first I ever seen like this. What are your thoughts on this?
I have a entire binder dedicated to the top goalies of the 90's... Including Patrick Roy, Felix Potvin, Martin Broudour and much more. I also have Ray Bourque number 7 cards.
No they cannot, Im the alive proof,Got all sets from the 60s to 1989 in triples and more. Born and raised in Hockey town/Montreal 24 cups. Cards are still too easy to find plus most hobbyists and collectors love the chase more than actually pay a stupid 500$ for a card from their hard earned money. They are around. It takes a dumbass to pay 4000$ for an Ovechkin rookie where you can find all over specially in garage sale bulks. Where the mama was cleaning the son room and the garage from"useless" stuff not needed no more as son lives with dad now lol I find so much from garage sales.
I had the Orr rookie card in excellent condition, like an idiot, sold it in 1985 to a card store for $400. I had not done my homework. Afterword he quickly led me out of the store saying he could sell it for $1200. Next heartbreak story (of three). I met the photographer of the Gretzky rookie card in 2000. He offered me two uncut sheets of OPC 1979-80. I could have had them for $1000 bucks but turned it down!!! Third heartbreaker. In 1965 I saw these 'tall' hockey cards for sale at the local variety store. NO ONE was buying them so I bought the whole box. These were the Tall Boys, the Howe alone today is worth over $1000. Sadly I gave them away in 1990, I will NOT say to whom or why! I have more stories but I have to commit suicide now.
The sports card industry is booming since the pandemic started. It’s a legit stock market with tangible cardboard art...Your Gretzky could easily sell for $500; the poorest condition ones are creeping up to a $1000 graded.
I have a 1990 Wayne Gretzky proset card, haven't gotten it graded or anything, I have the whole proset 90-93 I think lol, even have whole platinum set, Fred Rogers ·penguins #297 proset platinum idk what to do with all these cards tho??
Mine are all from around 1995. Not worth squat compared to these? Got one "'94-95 FLEER ULTRA NHL All Star Game" with Wayne Gretsky. Worth anything? Slightly worn edges, no creases.
Technically a PSA 10 doesn’t have to be perfect. It can be off center or have a slightly different imperfection in another sub-grade and still receive an overall 10 or you could own the company and get your 8’s to 10’s for free, lol. It’s good to mention here there are two examples of his rookie the topps and o-pee-chee which is typically around 2x more than the topps version. It’s also one of the most forged cards in the hobby. There are ways to tell and if you’re interested in adding a Gretzky to your collection Raw, I’d investigate how to tell before getting suckered. That raw Gretzky probably grades a PSA 3 and today a few years later the o-per-Cher’s comps in similar grade are selling for around 1-1.3k depending on eye appeal, time of day, and if the buyer is color blind or left handed…j/k. The topps sell around 500-900 today. It’s one of my favorite cards. I got pretty lucky to snag a raw card that looked mint before the market erupted for $900 and sent in to CSG in their infancy when they were the strictest reputable graders on the planet. It got an 8.5 which was the highest graded Gretzky in CSG’s database, I haven’t checked recently. This would easily fetch a 9 from PSA which last sold for 60k. 900 dollar card, 35 dollar grading fee, potential 5 figure profit. If you don’t own a Gretzky, you better get you one. 😎
I have 2 boxes of unopened factory sealed plastic 89_90 score NHL cards .. I think theres 50 packs in each box .. Jagr rookie Year Lindros RC in a old uniform along with many others brodeur etc... .. I had 3 and opened 1 to see cards inside .. Is this worth anything ?
No sadly they are not. I have 30 lindros cards from score, and I could probably get $20 bucks for them. Although if one of them was graded a BGS black label, then it could have some value.
unfortunately no pretty much anything 89-90 onwards isn't worth a dime (theres a few exceptions) but its mostly all mass produced junk as the market became oversaturated, good for pc but not for reselling
I have a signed wayne gretzky game stick......wonder what that's worth and where can I take it to tell me and possibly sell it for me .....anyone know?
I've got a Gretzky rookie card. I was 10yo when I bought it on a pack of bubble gum. It's in better shape than Ken's. I actually had about 4 or 5 of them back then but only found the one card in my box of cards when they started becoming $$$ in the late 80s.
The amount of wayne Gretzky rookie card fakes on the market now make it almost impossible to get a genuine unless you know what to look for or get an expert to look at it before buying one. As far as i know there are 2 variations of the fake ones. The second one is the hardest to spot.
I had Ken Dryen and Guy Lafleur rookie and a Black Lotus for Magic the gathering. All stolen from my locker in Vancouver. It's sad that my city has become a cesspool for crime. So, I gave up on that, moved and created a better life in a safer crime free country. lol
I have some really good cards and sets from 60's 70's 80's and 90's. I would like to sell them. I have a Bobby Orr team 2 Allstar card auto graphed also.
Same with my Roy card, I truly believe it's mint. Hands haven't touched it in 25 years along with my Mario rookie. I think my Roy could be a 10 candidate, my Mario may be in the 9 range. That dang rust color on the back of that set, makes any imperfections stand out.
Perfect condition is idiotic. If you enjoy owning the card for its intrinsic value, that's all that matters in my opinion. I love collecting beer cans, in the park, mostly for the deposit value. 25 empty cans gets me a free beer. You can't drink a Gretzky rookie.
@@bmoshareholderappleshareho855 All the Punjabi and African immigrants coming to Canada will never pay anything for cards. Since there is complete intent to bring in as many of these people as possible, hockey cards, and hockey itself will become obsolete.
