One of the problems with a new boat is that it comes completely empty. We need so much freaking stuff! And we’re not just talking about housewares like forks, plates and sheets. We need a lot of serious stuff like a dinghy, a life raft, life vests, fenders...
But of course, we need toys too. Because what fun is a sailboat without at least a couple of paddle boards, a foil board and dive gear?
We figured the best place to shop for all things boats is a boat show. Right?! And, as it turns out, we had more than one incentive to make our way to the Cannes Boat Show…or excuse me, this is France, so it’s the Cannes Yachting Festival.

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.

The Jet tender looks like a heap of fun however it is not practical as a 'car' for a cruising sailboat. Meaning life onboard requires a reliable, go anywhere, fix-anywhere form of transport. I went through two tenders before settling on an aluminum flat floor tender with a 25 hp motor. It lasted for my 6 years of circumnavigation and could easily handle 4 people with dive gear, tons of groceries, etc. It was not as sexy as a jet tender but worked everywhere in the world for what I needed.
Someone further on in the comments also hits a key negative on the jet tender... slow speed maneuverability. No rudder means using the jets to manuever. It goes fast in a straight line (although very tiring on the arm as your arm IS the rudder instead of a fin on the motor) but is hard to work with at the normal speeds you would be doing back and forth to a marina/beach/etc.
Simple math tells me a 14 kw motor using electricity from a 10kw set of batteries means at full speed the batteries will empty in about 40 minutes. Also physics say that to replace the 10 kw of energy you need the full output of a 12 kw generator dedicated to the recharge or using solar panels in the range of at least 5 kw would take a very long time (assuming full sun for hours of course). Having a second set of batteries sound like a good solution until you need to swap them out with the ones in the tender. I would image each of the 5 kw batteries weighs about 30 kg each.
One more negative, this tender will be extremely heavy and hard to pull up on a remote shore even with wheels on the back.

Water-maker sound transmission. Through the air (your mic) and through the mounting to the hull/bulkhead (notice all the soft white foam)! Your hull/bulkhead becomes a very large diaphragm with motor vibration like a speaker. Also sound travels more effectively (Amplitude and distance) through solid materials than air. The open boat show booth with, background noises (people talking) and no mounting requirements is deceptive. Sound isolation mounts and acoustic foam on walls/ceiling of the compartment can help.

Personally I think it seems kind of silly to give TH-camrs money on Patreon when they are purchasing a multimillion dollar toy. Between the boat and the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of accessories, I think they’re doing fine without Patreon. They get sponsorship deals as well as TH-cam ad sense money and with more than half a million subs, they make good money. It’s kinda like sending millionaire politicians money. But hey, to each their own. 🤷‍♂️

When I first saw the batteries, before I found out they were batteries, I thought they were fuel tanks that you go to shore, get fuel and take it out to your boat to put into your tanks with maybe an integral fuel pump. Empty they wouldn't add a lot of weight when empty and under the sides take up no room and frees up storing fuel jugs on the boat.

Hello Nikki and Jason! Love your channel. ❤
You mentioned you’re shopping for inflatable paddle boards…. Highly recommend Sea Gods paddle boards! They are based out of Canada but their boards are made in China, so maybe hopefully easy for you to order. Also, I think its that time of year boards are on sale. Their artwork is second to none and they make a really high quality inflatable SUP. I’ve had mine for a year and used it a ton in that time. It tracks so well and paddles smooth and easy. You can get some speed out of it too! I absolutely love my Sea Gods Diatom! If I was going to get another board I’d try the Carta Marina Cx. It is the next step up from a wide beginner board and it has a kraken on it. So cool.

You should have OC build a solar panel integration into the topside(possibly add folding ones to setup along side topside integrated panels) so it can recharge while out. They should look into the panels Aptera is using on their solar car. The mini size of their panels mean each one charges independently so when people are sitting on the sides many of the panels will still be charging at full capacity.

I am amazed to see all your questions regard to product part of your new boat and seeing how much ingenuity and design has gone into them to make thinks safe, fast, and last long especially when you need to know how things are going to work and fit in your new boat design and at what costs and so much more. So much work and effort you both have gone through to make sure that it all goes well. I love the fact you both got to meet the engineers and boat productions managers/ manufacturers behind the scene during your tour in France and getting them to show and ask questions. Good to see James Hakes , I believe is his name the kiwi engineer doing a great job and making new boat design, wow he is genius and his whole company. Excited and can’t wait to see your new boat one day. Than you both and enjoy your beautiful trip where ever your next journey will be. 🇫🇷🇫🇷💚🥰👍🛥️⚓️

Glad you found fendertex for your new fenders. I saw Keith from sailing zatara doing a section on their video with the same lady and are going to upgrade to those fenders also. I was going to comment about them to you after watching your video but then saw you at the booth in the video and thought ah they already have it covered 😊.

They should do the zerojet with a jet ski seat and handlebars. That would make that thing incredibly fun

I really like the tender. Fenders always take up so much space. Good choice on the new design. I hope they work out. Water maker with a spare pump! Can’t beat that. ⛵️🏝️let’s go on some sea trials soon. Champagne after. 🌴

Hi Jordan, love your channel and followed since the beginning.
Ive done several sailing trips to the Ionian in the last few years and I can tell you the chaos of people getting in to port and getting anchored, or tying long lines to shore, and then snagging chains and anchors in the morning when they leave is totally normal, it's actually part of the entertainment out there. I was terrible at stern to med mooring and long lining to shore, now I'm very confident doing it.
It may make you anxious but it may also be because you spend so much time in deserted anchorages. I would love to have the time to sail as you guys do but i only get a week here and there, so please don't beat us charter sailers up too much!
