  • According to the always very touching and moving mention of the legendary Pipe Major Iain Murdo Morrison on the Internet, I now feel an increasing responsibility to pass on some of the impressions he left when he visited Copenhagen in 1981 and 1984. He is always remembered by the way he interpreted, among other things, 6/8 marches. I will therefore come up with an obvious example that fits well with Robert Wallace's guide "How to Improve Your 6/8 Playing" in Piping Press. If you've heard him play once - you'll never forget it! Every atom in the surroundings vibrated with his pipes.

Note: Iain Murdo Morrison was once a pupil of P/M Donald MacLeod who is the composer of "Pipe Major Donald MacLean of Lewis" - so this is the closest we can get to the way the composer himself wants it to be played - in tempo and expression. Iain always changes the settings a bit - but always for the better!
