Straight to the point and got me what I needed, thanks.
You're welcome :)
Coming from a lifelong of Windows usage, this was definitely helpful. I particularly appreciated the straightforward no BS approach to the video. Thanks!
You're welcome! Keep it simple and straight to the point ;)
Most helpful - thanks to you buddy!! I am loving of you!
So nice of you
Thanks man! I really appreciate how it was straight and to the point! I watched like 10 vids that were just BS until I found your vid. Thanks!

Very helpful
Glad to hear that
Thank you .
Welcome 😊
👍🏾thx
your welcome :)
For video editing, do you recommend using the "encrypted" option? Cheers!
I encrypt mine because there are website files and login information on there and its only ever connected to 1 machine. If you are only using it for video and swapping between machines then unencrypted is fine.
clear concise helpful what about partitioning?

I never knew you had to do this. I have an SSD with videos on it and recently I’ve lost some of my footage (some files turn to zero bytes). Can I reconfigure my SSD so I can prevent this in the feature?
Back up the files to another drive, then format the SSD to APFS. Copy the files back to the SSD. Generally find APFS to be fast and stable
Hello there, I have a nvme enclosure, Ive added a NVME SSD that was being used on my windows pc. It's in the enclosure now. did everything you did until the format section. I see something else in there called SCHEME after the name and format selection. Im not sure what im doing from here. In the disk utility i see the drive, then uder it CONTAINER DISK5??? and under that volume... how do i format this to a new state? thank you
Go to view, show only volumes, it should look like mine then. Select the drive and format for for APFS, or Apfs encrypted. Let me know it that works for you.
I can't seem to get this happening....the SSD drive won't unmount as I do this and it gives me another option drop down box underneath the Format drop down box. It says SCHEME: and has three options in it to choose from. (The volume on disk4 couldn’t be unmounted because it is in use by process 570 (mds_stores))
So frustrating as I cannot use this SSD 1TB drive at all - it's permissions have changed to read only now too....and I didn't do that and it won't let me change it.
Thats really strange, have you tried formatting it on another computer/mac ?
Ive selected my drive, WD_BLACK SN770 2 TB MEDIA ,hit the erase button but it seems like nothing is initializing. This external drive is attached to a new Mac Mini M2 running Windows 11 Pro through the latest Parallels.
I think Parallels may be preventing you from using the APFS format
APFS Doesmt show as an option on my external SSD I've just bought. Any Idea why that would be?
& will exfat be ok?
Exfat will work with all computers, 🖥️ Mac , PC, Linux, Android 🤖
Hello! Happy New Year, I have a problem, I can’t make the external drive the main Mac
My ssd drive still shows as external, not internal.

how come yours doesnt show a "Scheme" Selection menu ? mine says "GUID Partition", "Master Reboot Record", or "Apple Partition Map"
in Disk utility you can change the view in the top menu, mines set to Show only volumns
I am seeing the same thing and wondering why yours doesnt have that option either@@JTechWP
I've got over 1 mil tiny files. How can I change the allocation size? Need to use exFAT.
Latest mac os only has ExFat, no size settings, i believe by default its max file size is 128PB so you should be fine
@@JTechWP Putting the 1-20 byte files in 32kb "slots" wasted 300GB. But thanks.
How to set the allocation unit size?
APFS option doesn't give an allocation size, if you are formatting ntfs or exfat the default settings are good
When i am formatting my disk it is not showing the options like exFat , ms dos fat
Which Mac OS are you using ? Intel or Apple M series ?
If you encrypt it... Is it slower and do you need to put the password in every time you plug it in?
Speed is the same. If you unplug then plug it in then you need to type the password. If you leave it plugged in, turn off, turn on password is not required
Thank you that's really kind to reply and makes sense 👌🏻
