I only know Son Son because the main characters granddaughter is the Son Son you play in Marvel vs Capcom 2, but I have indeed heard of Sweet Home and wish I could play it... but alas. Licensing issues...
Glad I got Sweet Home on a reproduction cartridge and it's translated. Crazy fact is that Sweet Home was gonna be remade for the Playstation except Capcom lost the rights to the movie, Sweet Home. So they made Resident Evil/Biohazard instead with inspiration. They should do a remake for the Switch and give it the treatment like Oddworld: New & Tasty. That would be cool.
Man this makes wanna import some of Capcom's Japanese exclusive game for the Famicom and enjoy them on my NES since I already have a 72 to 60 pin adapter. This reminds of my cousin who used to import a lot of Famicom and of them is Capcom's Japanese exclusive Sweet Home the predecessor of the game horror survival genre the grandfather of Resident Evil.
I didn’t know there was a text adventure based on A Taxing Woman! The rendution of the main character is really spot-on, as anyone who saw that movie will recognize her. :)
Love these videos about NES/Famicom games. There is a prototype of the unreleased NES localized version of Higemaru named Makai Island, and I think that a localized version of Rockboard was planned too.
I expected to be familiar with all of these, but I really only know Higemaru, Sonson, Sweet Home, and the Mega Man board game. Higemaru was pretty neat; it takes a little while to get going, but some of the islands you explore toward the end of the game are WILD. Sonson, I've played, but I'm more familiar with the sequel for TurboGrafx-16, which I think was also exclusive to Japan, but I don't remember who made it; don't think it was Capcom.
What else is new. There are so many good games never released. What I never understood was the whole regional lockout. Wouldn't it make more cost effective to use a single cart shape across the board? And if some of the Japanese games made it east-- how many businesses ever say no to more revenue?
I been getting a lot of Riggs lately, when he doesn't post for a day I'll freak out and wonder where he's at and realize OH he's probably doing stuff and things. Definitely things, probably stuff.
I could tell that Son Son port was done by Micronics before I even looked it up, because it appears to be 30 fps, like their other ports (1942, Ghost n Goblins).
Shocked a few of those did not come out in the USA. Especially at the end of the run of NES. All they had to do would be to translate & put in a NES cartridge and release.
I used to have a Japanese NES platformer which translated to Devil Spirit or something similar. I sold it years ago and have never seen it again. It was definitely a platformer and not Devil World.
John, I was mistaken! It was Satan Den aka GeGeGe no Kitaro later on released as Ninja Kid but there was a knockoff cart called Satan Den released in 1986.
Not on the list because it was never released at all, but there was some magazine image of an in-progress version of a home port of Black Dragon?! (Black Tiger over here) still bummed to this day that one never actually materialized. BT was probably my all time favorite of Capcom's early arcade releases. Also I understand Sweet Home was also a movie? would make sense with some of these other licensed tie-ins here.
I have SonSon on Switch through Capcom Arcade Stadium its addicting my favorite genre is shoot em ups and SonSon has some of that and Capcom had some awesome shoot em ups 1941 1943 1944 19xx and Gigawing being my favorites
I checked the Ide Yousuke Mahjong one this morning. There are input options for the Mahjong controller on Nestopia, Mesen and fceux. Wish I would have known about the special controller before buying it.
From what I understand about Rockboard, Capcom or Nintendo America, I'm not sure which, felt that the game promoted gambling which is why it wasn't released in the States.
The Mahjong one can be played with an emulator. Just trying to remember which one. I bought it at Midwest Gaming Classic for like $5 and found out later about the "special controller". Nestopia maybe?
New Quest - find where I can play these games in English! Fun idea for Nintendo switch - offer translated Famicom titles set up on a NES online service. I would definitely be down.
I hope in the future john you will do a couple of videos on Japan only games English speaking people can play and maybe even a couple of videos of great Japanese games we can enjoy with translation patches
I am looking for a famicom game that is similar to famicom wars. As far as I remembe, during my childhood days, the label of the cartridge has a "swastika" Sign in it... I do not know if it is a bootleg or not, but that game is awesome, could you help me to know it's title? Thank you
usually the games that don't make it to the U.S. are one of the endless number of monotonous J-RPG games, or another one of those monotonous vertical shooters.

Sweet Home holds up incredibly well. Look for the translated grey market release.

That makes sense.
@@JohnRiggs I thank Derek Alexander (Happy Video Game Nerd/Stop Skeletons From Fighting) for some of the information.
Sweet Home, the legendary precursor of the Biohazard/Resident Evil series.
Awesome!!! My wish came true. Thanks Mr. Riggs!

That Mega Man game is like a Mario Party precursor
I don't understand why we never got Dig Dug and Mappy. Splatter House would have been nice to have as well.
That baseball sim would have been a killer app for the NES.
I didn’t know there was a text adventure based on A Taxing Woman! The rendution of the main character is really spot-on, as anyone who saw that movie will recognize her. :)
Son Son is such an addictive game.
I dont think there was a single game in that list that I wouldn't enjoy. And Sweet Home, I must get around to at some point 😎👍
Son Son is the first game on Capcom Arcade Second Stadium. :)
You made this video for me. I’m working on collecting a complete NES/Famicom capcom set.
The Tenchi wo Kurau games are also arcade beat-em-ups. Amazing games, especially II.
Still have yet to play Sweet Home.
If you LOVE NES, I also make my own NES games. I have a few now and a few more coming out very soon. Keep an eye out! johnriggs.myshopify.com/
Oh boy, a Megaman board game...
I first came across Son Son on the PS2 Capcom arcade (classic) collection. A USA release would have been a big hit. Great game.
Yes it's also on the PSP Capcom collection as well
Love these videos about NES/Famicom games. There is a prototype of the unreleased NES localized version of Higemaru named Makai Island, and I think that a localized version of Rockboard was planned too.
Love these
i friggin' love pirate ship higemaru ! didn't know there was a different famicom version. cool
Great video!
Great topic. Great start to my weekend. 🎉

Should have been called Resident Evil: Sweet Home

Didn't Namco have tons of Japan-only NES releases? That may be a good company to cover next for a topic like this! ;)
Very! That will be a future video.
I really like these imported games videos! Love it!
Most people know sonson from mvc2 sonson was featured ad a playable fighter in it.
I been getting a lot of Riggs lately, when he doesn't post for a day I'll freak out and wonder where he's at and realize OH he's probably doing stuff and things. Definitely things, probably stuff.
Son Son was one of the games included on Capcom's Classics Collection Vol. 1 and it is also available on Capcom's Arcade Stadium #2.
Wow some of these games I never knew Capcom made. Thanks for that JohnRiggs. 😀
I used to have a Japanese NES platformer which translated to Devil Spirit or something similar. I sold it years ago and have never seen it again. It was definitely a platformer and not Devil World.
I'll have to do some research to find it

Loving it bro ❤I have been gaming since 85 🏴💯
After recently playing capcoms Commando I was supprised how glitchy it is, I thought the cart slot was faulty lol.✌️
Great new series!
I also love how it seemed japan had a lot more adventure games like baseball centered murder mystery 😊
I checked the Ide Yousuke Mahjong one this morning. There are input options for the Mahjong controller on Nestopia, Mesen and fceux. Wish I would have known about the special controller before buying it.
That first title looks pretty good for early NES. The game also gives me Goof Troop (SNES) vibes. I suspect they have some similar staff members.
Would like to see all these get rom translations!
Just picked up Sweet Home cib
I need one of those hats 🧢🧢
I'm making more soon!
I believe I have Son Son on Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 for PS2.
YOU SIR HAVE SAID IT...BASEBALL IS A STRATEGY GAME. In game format it's perfect. In sim not so much. But ima a sf giants fan and you are correct.
Son son 2 is a fun game, only 1 life and no continues makes it difficult but it plays super well.
I didn't know who Sonson was until Marvel vs. Capcom 2. 😂😂😂
From what I understand about Rockboard, Capcom or Nintendo America, I'm not sure which, felt that the game promoted gambling which is why it wasn't released in the States.
That baseball game that you showed time stamp 4:04 looks like it plays a lot like the usa game tecmo cup soccer
The Mahjong one can be played with an emulator. Just trying to remember which one. I bought it at Midwest Gaming Classic for like $5 and found out later about the "special controller". Nestopia maybe?
You gotta give some love to Rndstranger channel who has a famidaily series of every single famicom game reviewed with trivia in order of release!
John Riggs, wish I could search through your collection
3:37 It seems to play similar to Captain Tsubasa from TECMO
New Quest - find where I can play these games in English!
Fun idea for Nintendo switch - offer translated Famicom titles set up on a NES online service. I would definitely be down.

That hat is awesome man!
Google Lens on your phone will translate the text as you go.
Why is no one ever talking about Wizards and Warriors 3. I used to love that game but its almost like it never actually existed
Sonson was on ps2 capcom classics i played it recently
I am looking for a famicom game that is similar to famicom wars. As far as I remembe, during my childhood days, the label of the cartridge has a "swastika" Sign in it... I do not know if it is a bootleg or not, but that game is awesome, could you help me to know it's title? Thank you
I really want to try that Mega Man board game now.
Mega Man Boardgame is alright it's like Monopoly 😂😂😂
Was Son Son on any of the multicarts?🤔
I just saw you at the game swap!!
Hey I gotta video suggestion! How about NES publishers that were awesome on NES but sucked on SNES. Vic Tokai and Kemco and Jaleco come to mind.
Dynasty warriors take place during the three kingdoms after the Han dynasty
U like gameboy, bro
Capcom= 🐐
The japanese are stingy for making exclusives for themselves. 😂
Japanese culture sure is strange. It's really cool sometimes, but strange
usually the games that don't make it to the U.S. are one of the endless number of monotonous J-RPG games, or another one of those monotonous vertical shooters.
All that time spent eating hamburgers, you could spend it on learning Japanese, you know ?
No time stamps -_-
Naw, I prefer people watch the videos I make
