- Rare brought the world a host of some of the most beloved characters and franchises to ever appear on the television screen. After they turned the world of video games upside down with the donkey kong country series, they were ready to share one of their most iconic games to date. A game that many consider to be one of the greatest platformers of all time, and ultimately becoming one of the most critically acclaimed titles in the 64 bit era.

Banjo X’s cancellation bummed me out because it sounded like a really cool idea. It’s kind of like how the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is playing out.
Microsoft really dropped the ball when it came to Rare.

It is theorized that the ice key from Freezeeezy Peak was supposed to be used on the Banjo-Kazooie fridge in Donkey Kong 64. There is a hidden cutscene that zooms in on the fridge found via a glitch that sends DK to the ice level of that game.
plus the ice key is in the code of dk64 and its considered already acquired at the start of the game.
Yeah there was a hidden upgrade for the N64 that was scrapped, with that you were supposed to be able to insert a game disc for the donkey Kong 64 and then another disc for banjo kazooie and they were supposed to be cross-playable
Kazooie being constantly pregnant makes that SLAM move from Tooie and Smash horrific 😀
Mumbo Jumbo being a Jinjo makes a lot of sense in hindsight. After all, there’s the Mingy Jongo boss who’s a Minjo equivalent of Mumbo.

The door shown at 4:36 is not a mysterious door.
It simply leads to the area with the brown cauldron we can find right after beating Grunty's Furnace Fun.
The real mysterious doorS (with an S because there are two) are located in the room at the top of the lair where we can see the machines supposed to transfer Tooty's beauty to Gruntilda, seen in the scene starting when you enter Gruntilda's lair for the first time. :p
To this day I STILL want Project Dream to become a full game. Also I think it was mentioned that Tooty was just visiting Banjo for the summer and still lives with their parents.

you missed one piece of it. The OG Banjo-Kazooie in particular had a few moments of foreshadowing in regards to Banjo-Tooie. in one interaction between Banjo and Kazooie with Bottles one of Kazooie's snarky comments is calling Bottles Jam Jars which foreshadows that somebody other than Bottles will give out new skills to learn and master in Banjo-Tooie. in another part of the game when Gobi the Camel leaves the game he mentions a Lava world that ends up foreshadowing Hail Fire Peaks in Banjo-Tooie since half the level is a lava world. after collecting all the Jiggies during the post credits scene Mumbo Jumbo reveals the stop n swop items while mentioning that they'll reveal their use in Banjo-Tooie which in regards to the Ice Key was Humba Wumba requesting a mega version of the transformation item in the game so you can turn Kazooie into a dragon.
There's also a small random chance that Mumbo says he's going to transforms you into a T-Rex, but changes his mind because that would be to cool and was better used in the next game.
It's worth noting that rhyming poetry isn't a thing in Japanese due to the limited number of sounds.
Hence Gruntilda was given a different speaking style to compensate for lingual differences.

Banjo X sounds so cool and surreal. I don't think there's many games that have done something like that. In fact only one comes to mind.

Yeah, maybe it's because he was a minor character.
They may have been able to get permjssion, especially as it was a handheld title and handheld banjo games came out after the acquisition iirc
@@uberfreak2 Rare developed the remake themselves in license with Nintendo, meaning they decided to keep him in. Rare had a habit of inserting their IPs into Nintendo ones, like the Rare 8-Bit shooter in DK 64, which makes it complicated for Nintendo to rerelease them.
I think it was actually Nintendo's request to cut Banjo and Conker from Diddy Kong Racing DS, because they did not want to have Rare main characters in a Marioverse canon game.
Because that's how it came along to customers in the 90s, not only appear they in Diddy Kong Racing which has a story set in Diddy Kong's world (which is the Marioverse, Nintendo's main IP), all of Rare's 3D adventures, the Banjo series, Conker and DK64 share a general aesthetic that makes you think they are set in the same world, too (which again, is the Marioverse because Mario and DK live in the same world)...
I think Nintendo really wanted to pull the plug here but just forgot about TipTup and Rare being Rare kept him in.
I believe conker live and reloaded would've sold well if it was essentially just a modernized (gameplay wise) version of bad fur day. With the better graphics and controls. What messed them up on sales I belive is that they censored a lot of stuff that wasn't censored on bad fur day when the game is an M rated game to begin with
11:40 "Rated E in the 90s" At the beginning of Gobi's Valley, Kazooie says something along the lines of "How's your nuts?" to the tree there. Also, in the board/trivia game at the end, for the question, "What was Gruntilda's party trick?", one of the wrong answers is a "striptease".
In the level Mad Monster Mansion, in the room with the giant pipe organ, the sheet music on the organ is the music that plays in that room.
28:17 This is some really good concept art, but as someone who enjoys Clanker's Cavern, 29:48 is horrifying (not that I wouldn't play the $h!+ out of that game).
In regards to Mumbo having the capability of reviving that alien kid, I think that he couldn't revive Bottles, because he didn't have a glowbo to give him the magic he would've needed to use that spell.
Plus doesn't he need a mumbo pad to channel the energy in the first place

I thought it was confirmed that Mumbo was not a Jinjo. I personally thought that he was a pink grublin like the enemies found in Mumbo's Mountain, which to me makes better sense given the BETA.
Given as to how Nuts and Bolts takes place 10 years after the original Banjo-Kazooie, I would think that Boggy's kids would be teenagers by then, so it isn't too surprising that they are mostly absent. Although I was not aware of Soggy and Moggy being found in Banjoland. Its been a while since I've played Nuts and Bolts.
Just a detail you missed in order to talk about climbing mumbo's Mountain without the transformation you have to also make note that this was fixed in every copy of the game beyond the 1.0 cartridge

The data in the Nintendo 64's memory are comprised of playloads. I have been looking through the games data and have so far found 3 playloads that are associated with stop n swop. Copying and pasting one of the playloads into a random ram address makes all of the sns areas accessible without the need of a cheat code. The second sends the data to another game. The thirds purpose is still unclear. It is evident that the mechanism that utilizes stop n swop is functional in the games memory.
That sort of reminds me of something members of GDQ did a week ago regarding Super Mario World All Stars. All the games are on one console for playing, but the players found a way to cheat through a few of the games with a different game to reach the credits and 'beat' the game. It was an interesting showcase, and very amusing. But cheats in BK aside, it might be possible to use the BT game to open up those hidden areas in BK. But accessing the correct point to Stop and Swop mid game seems to be the only hitch. After all, yanking cartridges out of consoles is the life of the N64
An update on this. I've located a RAM address where the playload to send sns items is stored. I am in the process of compiling a gameshark code. Interestingly, the game freezes before the stop n swop menu loads. It may be a very long gameshark code and this may take some time. I'm also going to spend some time soon testing it on the actual hardware with a gameshark for better results.

The difference between a talkbox and a vocode, is a Talkbox uses a human mouth and a straw to control the upper harmonics (which shape the note into vowels) while a Vocode is a hand inputted sequence of events on a computer. A talkbox is typically a Realtime instrument, which musicians enjoy using, while a Vocode is something that must be prepared ahead of time, and typically not "performed" by live humans, rather just press "play" and the computer goes through the targets you had set for it

I’d also argue and say that backlash against violence and mature themes in video games was way more intense in the 90’s, with parents and even news outlets constantly talking about violence in video games. Censorship was incredibly common.

The eggs were also reintroduced in Tooie's XBLA version based on your unlocking of them in Kazooie XBLA. As for their original purpose I doubt it would have been much more meaningful than the actual eggs you find in Tooie's 64 version !
Beta Minjos : Minjos are actually different from Jinjos and were later reintroduced in Tooie. They're basically evil Jinjos that turn evil when approached.

Does anyone else remember Banjo grabbing his foot while jumping up and down after kicking mumbo's xylophone in the intro of the game??
I have a personal nostalgia for this game. When I was very little, I was suffering from really bad night terrors, to the point that my parents took me to a hospital to figure out what was going on. I have zero clue what they found out but the most prominent memory I have from then was this one nurse rolled in a small TV stand with an n64, and the game in the slot was Banjo-Kazooie.
Is it my favorite game? Sadly no, but it's definitely one I'll personally treasure regardless of faults.

Project Dream dates all the way back to the SNES. Banjo was created for Dream long before Diddy Kong Racing came out.
