You're totally right but you can't exclude her! She may be the best Disney hero I guess we could say, but the respect she gains at the end is on such a large scale that I feel like the viewers see her on the same level as other princesses. She is an equivalent of that in the time her story takes place in my mind.

It is worth noting that Esmerelda lost her official princess status at the same time as Tinker Bell, so if that disqualifies Tinker Bell, I guess it disqualifies Esmerelda too. Though I think the reason Esmerelda lost princess status is bullshit, so I would have still moved her up.

I know, right?! It was almost impossible for me to choose. Growing up, Belle was _always_ my favourite princess. I related to her a lot because I was a massive bookworm, a brunette (know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but Belle was the first brunette princess), and my family’s French. But in terms of modern princesses, I love Tiana!
All I could think of in the Moana vs Jasmine matchup is that Moana’s movie probably is the only one that passes the Bechdel test.

i think esmerelda losing to snow was a case of them either a) not seeing hunchback, or b) not remembering it, like merida vs jasmine (i'm biased, but i think merida accomplishes everything jasmine did and more, but i 100% agree that jasmine has merit as the first POC in the disney princess lineup). it is what it is!

Mirabel tho you can argue she's a leading character, the whole movie centers on her AND her family. They are as much sharing the stories as her, so I wouldn't say she meets the criteria.

I love this series, please do so many more.
There were a couple times I wanted to shut off the video.
First, belle: they make the argument of Stockholm syndrome (which people need to stop doing because they are wrong) and being basic, but they defend Ariel (as they should). But it felt hypocritical to me.
I am with everyone: the esmeralda slander. Your punishment boys: watching the hunchback of Notre dame and writing a ten page paper on why Esmeralda is one of the best.
Merida deserved more respect. Her arc is amazing. Also, the work she did to fix her mistake can’t be underestimated.

I’ll Make a Man Outta You is the best song to wake up to and do your morning routine to and work out to. It boosts your endorphins and makes you feel so badass. Plus, they sing the song during the cross-dressing scene which CEMENTED Mulan as an iconic movie for LGBTQ+ people

Both are great. For me it depends on what mood I’m feeling. If I need to wake up and get some energy then Make a Man Out Of You is perfect. If I want to sing a pretty song that’s actually in my vocal range then I’d be in the mood for Part Of Your World. Both are very different but very good

The try team never gives Anna the credit she deserves. She may not have powers, but she did everything in that movie while Elsa is moody and broody in her ice palace. & then she saves her sister at the expense of herself. All for Elsa to figure out her powers when she is reminded love is a thing. Like like I’m also queer and dramatic but to say that all Anna did was be the stereotypical little sister that fell in love with the wrong man is mildly insulting.
I came here to make this exact defense. Anna, despite having no powers, takes on a harrowing journey, especially if you consider Frozen 2 and not just the first movie. She's quirky, but super brave and determined. Also, "do you want to build a snowman?" and "first time in forever" are fantastic songs (but I will concede that "part of your world" is one of fhr few songs i know pretty much by heart start to finish)

@yikesgina I like Elsa but she is overhyped just because of her powers and her song. In terms of story arc she did the least. Frozen 2 was a bit better, but you’re right that she’s pretty selfish in how she addresses things. Especially when it’s been proven she has people who care about her and are willing to help her out.
She is technically the only princess to actually sacrifice her life for the people she loves. Which deserves FAR more credit
