    • @EidolWays
      @EidolWays 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      The only problem is BMW basically parts-binned it and used the transmission from the 545i, as others have said. The synchros can't really keep up with the revs, so a 1->2 quick shift on a full-throttle pull is... eh. I cannot do it without grinding gears, even if I kick the clutch pedal through the floor. So I just have to wait a second between shifts. Then it'll slot into second without grinding.

    • @robi4387
      @robi4387 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@EidolWays Interesting to know. Everyone on the internet praises the manual. SMG does take a bit of getting used to. Sometimes it will pull away in 1st sometimes in 2nd, but right now the alternator has gone. So it is not going anywhere in any gear. BTW, here in the UK there are quite a few 645i, 650i, 545i and 550i with the SMG box but very few manuals.

    • @philhart3878
      @philhart3878 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Advanced drivers are taught not to use the indicators unless they are of use to other road users. Makes using them a conscious decision rather than a zombie/subconscious action. For instance. If you are going to use an off ramp and there’s traffic about, you indicate your intention. If you are about to use an on ramp, regardless of traffic, there’s no need to indicate. Other road users know you have no other place to go but into Lane one. Just sayin.

    average talents to simply consign the car to the crusher. Rescued and brought back to life

      @@NickMyers1 The car has an inspection sticker from Virginia that was issued 8/2018, so the car did not spend much time in NC. In northern VA they dump copious amounts of salt on the roads if there is a vague forecast of snow. It is likely that the car originated from No. VA (DC suburbs) since that is where people have money to buy these kinds of cars.

Over here, there's always a line at the car washes as we know how they treat our roads haha! The (previous) previous owners might've had their own washer, definitely garage kept.
      BTW DC is DC. If we have to commute to DC to work, we'd get our vehicle registered there because our emissions regulations are more strict. Lots of nice vehicles are down here with those and MD tags, but DC? Rarely, unless you pay for parking in a garage. You don't leave M5s on the side of the road (in DC) unless you want another one and more paperwork to fill out and most places don't have nice driveways, if at all.

Two years later no startup whine - hydromotor burnt out. Three weeks ago iDrive went black, every warning light on the dash, no power steering, no drive, limp home - might have been the IBS, but it wasn't. It might be the alternator, we'll see when it arrives. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

    Just FYI it can be very difficult to detect a bad ball joint by just wiggling the wheel. If the ball joint isn't completely shot the wheel can still feel okay especially with the suspension completely unloaded. You really need to go back behind it and pry on them with a crowbar to see if there's movement in them.

    I love to show this car to any idiot that says BMWs are unreliable and especially this car and this engine. In the US it has a reputation of a junk car... It's a high revving 500hp V10 with 140k miles... Alternator, coils, spark plugs, battery... Half of this stuff is maintenance and the other half is because of poor maintenance... Damn Ford battery on this car is nothing short of idiocracy...
