    My 2000 M5 jammed in 2nd gear as well. I decided to completely disassemble it and found nothing broken except a jammed fork. After reassembly trans was working fine. Also worth noting that this has happened to quite a few M5s and usually after an aggressive shift.

      I have the same Problems. I try to keep my E 46 of the road but after 300.000km and 24 Years ( yeah its the Pre-Facelift) its more difficult because there breaks every month something. Actual there are breaking expensive sensor´s... i drove some newer BMW´s but i dont like them because they are quite heavy and "big" in comparission to my E 46. My E 46 is not fast, has no tuning, but i like it. Dont know why, cause most of the time something gone bad and has to be replaced....
      I can image the fight to keep an E 38 on the road.
      The times here in Germany will be a lot harder than the past years. Everthing gotten so expensive like Fuel, Car insurancy and the list goes on.
      In the End i will try to find a cheap second car, so my E 46 can chill a bit.

    Streten, have been a big BMW fan of yours for years now. Your channel has one of the most respectable and adventurous, not along informative channels on you tube world wide. It's the reason we know your channel is so very successful. We have a passion for the BMW mark now for many years. And your knowledge has helped us a great deal. But more than anything the patience to deal with the small and big problems when they come up. Especially the more expensive fixes like N54s or any V8, or stright 6 turbo from BMW. It's an art to see the dedication to perfect the things most owners would like to perform on our BMWs. same, I love my E39 Touring, but is starting to cost money 280K on it now and it really has not cost a lot to maintain up.to now it always has had good oil (Penrite 5w40) and as its a jap import it has the dreaded JATCO trans, but changed the trans fluid every year, never had a problem. The big problem now, is what to do with it, I have a FUGA 370GT what just goes, wife has a Lexus IS350 F which runs ring around any of the modern BMW's, but the old E39 is still a good driver, but for little annoying shit, and I think they were the pinnacle of BMW engineering, which is why we have never brought a newer one after owning BMW's for 35 odd years

    My E39 M5 is about 140,000 miles was glad to see your engine is still running strong even if the transmission has an issue. I have noticed the popping out of third gear once or twice in the 15 years I've had this car and never knew about the arrestor balls that cause this issue so this video definitely helped me! I think I will be upgrading that even though my transmission is otherwise fine. I hope the e60 shifter didn't mess with the transmission! I upgraded my stock shifter to the UUC short shifter and I haven't had a problem in ~40,000 miles it definitely improved the shifting experience - those plastic balls on the stock shifters literally deform and fall apart!
    Anyway, Merry Christmas!! Looking forward to more E39 M5 content! Hope you get both these beautiful machines up and running soon!

    I had the pleasure of being a passenger in an e60 m5 once, the engine and exhaust noise gave me goose bumps. It’s absolutely the best sounding engine in any car ever, if only my pockets were big enough to have one. For the E46 rev matching you need to do an ICV delete and a tune to follow, which makes it easy.

    I‘m a technician: try this: before you start the engine just lift the car from the ground an turn the whel from lock to lock 30 times and ad oil if necessery. Then start the engine and do the procedure again an keep an eye on the fluid level. Works ever time!😊

    • @ggal625
      @ggal625 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do the same on my E61 and Z3. Engine off. Turn lock to lock several times until the fluid stops dropping. Running the engine too early just creates bubbles and lots of noise.

    • @M539Restorations
      @M539Restorations  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did, and I do the same, it doesn't make a difference on the E60 and E92. It's easier to use your steering wheel since the car is already in the air. :)

    Regarding windshield wipers, I only use the BMW original ones - my experience is that they last so much better than any aftermarket ones - tried a bunch of brands but the last ones from BMW were still in good condition after 4 years and 80000 kms, no sqeak and they still wiped off the rain as they should.👌

    Because of the temperature difference during the winter your engine bay will be constantly wet. This sound insulation allow the temperature to escape slowly and oder than sound proofing that is its second job. Once removing it there will be a lot of condensation. :)

    Hi Sreten - our buddy Adam Bajrak gave me a great tip about bleeding the power steering fluid circuit.
    Don't start the engine. Fill the reservoir and unlock the steering column with the key and turn it lock to lock a couple of times and it will get most of the air out of an otherwise drained system. You probably need to top up the reservoir a couple of times while doing this with the engine off. This saves the pump from cavitating on startup.
    Love the channel!
    Pete from Mt. Airy MD
