I know this comment is a bit late as you posted this recipe in April, but I made these brownies tonight and they were delicious. Loved by all! Our new go to brownie recipe :) Thank you!
Jill !!! Today I made these brownies and in place of the Peanut Butter I used instead -- Applesauce!!!! Equal amounts... They are super moist and have even less fat. Thank you!

This is genius! Seriously, this is going to make my Mom so happy when I surprise her with this. She's 89 years young and does she love it when I bake. Thank you!
I made this 2 times already and it is what i needed to help me with my chocolate addiction. I love love love chocolate. I am slowly trying to find recipes to create a wfpb staples and this is another keeper. I really appreciate the fact that your recipes are always spot on and i know i can trust the result. Well done Jill, yet again. (Your pancakes are next :) )
These are seriously amazing. The only issue I had was that they were a smidge too dry and crumbly, maybe because I used home canned beans...I'm going to try adding a couple TBSP of applesauce next time with a TBSP flax seed. I've made several healthy brownies before with sweet potatoes, and black beans etc, but none have been keepers because texture has always been off-putting to me, too mushy. I love a thick, dense, fudgy, chewy brownie and these fit that description.
I'm not that keen on brownies but my husband and son like them, so I thought I'd give this a go. WOW! My son and I were gobbling the dough before I even had a chance to put it onto the baking tray. It's incredible! I knew it was going to be good just by the smell of the smoke coming out of my food processor. 😜 My 7 year-old son gave your recipe "2 awesome thumbs!". 👍👍
Just made these and they are delicious! They are high in calorie, so for me they will have to be an occasional treat. I will say that my food processor was not big enough to handle the job, so I had to blend the ingredients 1/3 at a time. Worth the extra work!
NOTE FOR PEANUT ALLERGY SUFFERERS: The BEST substitute is not almond butter (too heavy & too strong of a flavor!) but MACADAMIA NUT BUTTER. I made a very fluffy creamy vegan "peanut butter pie" & brownies with macadamia nut butter for my 3 dozen cooking school participants, & it was yummed by ALL 😁🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
What a great recipe 😍😋❤️I made these for the 1st time tonight. I topped half of the brownies with tart cherries. Wow. Most impressive. My husband enjoyed them too 😋

Finally made these & they’re just out of the oven. I have a 9 cup food processor but, I had to take some of the dough out & pulse it in my Vitamix! I also added a few TBSPs of water to move things along .. I hope they taste even half as good as they smell!
My food processor was not big enough and I had to leave a few chickpea bits and finished mixing with my hands. They still turned out amazing and were delicious!

I used 1 medium apple and only half a C of peanut better. The taste was good, not overly sweet. I can imagine the richer taste when using a whole C of peanut butter! I checked the difference in nutrition with Cronometer, just ouf of curiosity. With 1 C of peanut butter there is 36% fat. With half a C there is 26 % fat. At the beginning, when it's warm, it's quite soft . It hardens up if you keep it in the fridge.
I make my chickpeas from "scratch" - the initial soaking chickpea water is a good probiotic and can be used to make chickpea yoghurt using 3 -4 TBLS chickpea soaking chickpea water as the probiotic. Chickpea soaking water is also good for plants so can be used in the garden. The chickpea cooking water (or the water from the can) is aquafaba which is a good egg white replacement. It can be used to make butter, cream, frosting, meringues, awa mayonnaise (which does require quite a bit of oil). I've also seen aquafaba appear in other recipes too. So much one can make with chickpeas - flour, yoghurt, butter, mayonnaise, milk, tofu & tempeh, awa a protein replacement in many sweet & savoury recipes... even energy bars & brownies etc. Chickpea flour must be treated like regular flour - don't use it for non-baked goods unless it's baked in the oven first.
Thank you for another great recipe. These taste great and can't tell it's made with chickpeas. I keep feeling guilty eating them and have to remind myself they're healthy. Great job, Jill!

These were quite nice. I did however made a few changes/mistakes. For one, I substituted about 25% of the peanut butter amount with applesauce; and for two, halfway through mixing, I got scared that my poor cheap food processor wouldn't be able to handle the (very) dry mass, so I added a bit of water. As a result, as well as due to my old oven that doesn't heat up as much, the baked product was moist and dense rather than "dry and crumbly". I would have welcomed dry and crumbly xD Anyway, I will repeat one day and will follow the recipe to the dot, see what comes out. I still liked the taste anyway.
delevator, I followed the recipe to a T, and it still came out crumbly (I also have a poor old food processor that is not quite up to the job!), although surprisingly moist, given how dry it looked. I definitely need to invest in a more powerful food processor, and I think that will make the difference - my dates don't break down to mush, currently, but with a new food processor hopefully it'll do the trick and I'll have an end product that's a little more cohesive and holds together better. (I did note that even Jill's brownie fell apart, so guess I"m not too far off the mark!). Hope you've tried the recipe again and are happier with the results :)
What do you think of carob? I haven’t seen many recipes using it but it is far better for you with no caffeine or bromine at all and full of fiber. Would work really well here. Just a thought.
I don’t think caffeine is a concern for her, she cooks with coffee which have way more caffeine than chocolate., but that’s an individual choice, which we should respect.
Well the batter is absolutely delicious.. But I got a new processor for my bday. Kitchen Aid pretty good brand. But it starts smoking. So I started reading what the processor will do. It states that only fill like 3/4 if I'm making Almond butter. I'm just comparing. And I had the processor full. Any go them mad ebut the food processor was smoking. So I was thinking about getting the one you have. Please any advice. Thank you so much with all these recipes.

Hi Charles, it is important to keep these foods in the refrigerator. I wouldn’t expect a cake to keep on the counter for 5 days as there are no preservatives or chemicals in it to keep it from decomposing.

So just to make sure, are you using cocoa powder (the processed thing that almost always comes with sugar and is ready to stir into a drink etc.), or the raw cacao power used in patisserie? Since this is WFPB I'm assuming you meant cacao, not cocoa? Sorry if this question is confusing to you, reason might be there are different products being sold in the US vs. here in Europe. Google says that "cocoa" is just heat-processed and "as a result" tastes sweeter. My experience where I have lived is that processed cacao (="cocoa") always comes with a bunch of sugar and is mostly meant to make instant cacao beverages with, it is packaged and marketed that way, and sweetened accordingly. In contrast, raw cacao powder doesn't readily dissolve in liquids and is bitter to the taste, so it needs to be boiled or otherwise cooked. My question is mostly regarding the level of sweetness - if you're using something that is already much sweeter than the raw powder I have, I'd need to adjust the amount of dates.
