I also model Vogue V9021 View A dress made from a Cotton Linen fabric that was gifted to me from Auset at @AusetsStitchedTreasures .
Then, I talk about my very unusual iron return experience with Singer. This iron was purchased at Joann's but can only be returned through Singer. SINGER® SteamCraft Plus 2.0 Iron

Hi Grace. My immediate thought re the iron is so that you cannot just claim it doesn't work and resell it. If they see the cut cord they will know then it is useless and prevent fraud. They clearly don't trust anyone 😂 Now to the dresses.. love both of them of course! When do you ever make something I don't love ❤. I've made the Simplicity pattern but the long bell sleeve version, if I had your shoulders I would definitely do yours ❤. You look fab as always. Xxx

Thank you Jen. These dresses were not too hard to fit especially the Simplicity dress. Lots of ease. Also, I don't know who designs these irons but it's definitely not the everyday sewist. One thing for sure is, I will be getting my next iron on Amazon. They take returns and I don't think I'll be cutting any cords!! My Rowenta is horrible.

The dresses are gorgeous! That's definitely interesting about the iron. It makes me wonder what happened that this is how they handle the returns. At least you had the receipt so you could get the new iron! I'm glad it'll all turn out okay, even though there's a bit of a strange pathway. Have a great week!

Wow the iron story is truly bizarre. My iron is from 1997, I bought a GE for $15😃 It still works fine knock on wood😂 I hope you receive your replacement very very soon and this one proves to be a winner.👍Good luck
Yes Vani, I had a GE iron many years ago and it worked great! I'm glad you still have yours and it works. I won't be happy with the replacement because I do not like the iron. I have another one in mind that I will get from Amazon. Amazon takes returns and does not ask you to cut any cords! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

HI Grace, I'm laughing at the iron story! I had the exact experience with my Cosori air fryer. The company had a recall of this product due to a fire hazard, but in order to get another air fryer I had to send a photo of the cord cut off, along with the model number. I think, in this case, it was because they wanted to make sure you couldn't use it and then have a fire. But the iron thing is even more bizarre. The dresses are lovely. I did see Vivmom model the formal one. Great job. Many blessings.

Wow Grace! You always amaze me with your sewing. I too, bought that Simplicity patter because of VivMom. The fit of both dresses is perfect. Yes, the iron situation is ridiculously, I guess they believe you were going to keep the subpar product while requesting a new item. A full refund is in order. I have been looking for a new iron, but my Black Decker is still going strong after 15years. Nevertheless, your dresses and accessories are fabulous.

Grace - I love the dresses! Especially the Asymmetrical dress! I had a similar situation with a Sears Kenmore Vacuum. It came defective. They asked me to do the same thing - cut the vac cord . . . . Sigh. Just crazy.

Hi Grace, yes it’s odd but I had the same procedure asked of me when I had problems with a coffee machine. I did cut the cord sent the picture by e-mail, ect and did receive a new coffee maker. A model after mine and it’s had no problems. A lot of stuff goes on and companies resort to these methods. The honest pay for the dishonest. 🇨🇦

I had the same situation with a microwave that was not right. They didn't want me to send it back but they want to make sure it was not able to be used, so I had to do the same thing with the cord!

I have been buying and returning irons for the past several years. Basically, I just want something that actually gets hot enough to take out wrinkles. That has been impossible, so far. I am convinced that regulators are trying to keep me safe from burning myself or burning my house down and do not trust me with a hot iron. Between the low temperature and the automatic shut off, I am completely frustrated. Also, the irons are too light. Recently, I have been searching for an old iron like my Mom had when I was a child. She taught me to iron my Dad's shirts and handkerchiefs. They were smooth as glass when finished. I am going to watch Jen's video. Thanks for the heads up.

I treated myself to a oliso iron that wanted to throw water out instead of steam and went through a bunch of malarkey trying to get help and finally gave up because I felt like I was arguing over a 199. Iron. What a waste of money.
Oh, and now the sole plate is rusted because it leaks.

Hi Grace! YES! I saw the Vivmom dress when she made it a couple years ago.. I put it on the back burner to recreate one for a wedding I was to attend! I had the perfect flow fabric from Fabricmart in my collection.. Agreed! turned out wonderfully as well. I love your taste. The vogue dress is gorgeous too. Really weird Iron experience! It makes me want to order from amazon where I know I can just return it without any drama. I'm in the middle of needing a new one since the sole plate of my current iron is peeling off! I also had a Rowenta in the past that leaked like crazy..
Hi Grace! You have such a classy wardrobe of clothing, shoes and accessories! Love to see your fashion show! Also, regarding the iron -- WEIRD!! They just wanted to make sure you ruined the faulty iron. Recycle it. Guess they're just making sure they're not being scammed but Geesh!! They couldn't fix it? Guess it's cheaper for them in the long-run just to replace. But...do you want another similar iron? I'm not happy with the iron I bought about a year ago at JoAnn's either but they said they'd take it back. It's a steam iron but it hisses and spurts a lot. It's not over-filled either. Anyway, a good iron is very important to us, isn't it?

We had a similar experience returning a defective Hoover Wet Jet vacuum. My husband had me video tape him plugging it in, turning it on, and showing it wasn't working. Then he had to cut the cord and show that. I thought that was bizarre. We didn't have to return it, and we did receive a new one, but it was a bit much to prove it was defective. Good luck!

I had something similar happen with some lampshades. They had me crush them send a picture before I could get my refund. I believe it’s more expensive for them to pay for the shipping and restocking and repair then is to destroy. Makes you think about how overpriced everything is.

As for the iron…..I went through a similar experience with an air fryer. I had to cut the cord off and send in information and they sent me another. Back to the iron…..when you find a good one let us know. Sometimes I think whomever designs them doesn’t really use them. They look like they have a lot of steam holes but often they are merely indentations in the sole. The buttons on my Rowenta are in such a bad place that the steam keeps getting turned off. I really enjoy your channel and seeing your makes. Thanks too for mentioning the size you cut and posting your measurements. It does provide the rest of us some insight before we purchase a pattern size. Do you have an opinion on the sizing how you choose a size between the pattern brands?
I just ordered an iron on Amazon that I think I'm going to love. My quilt group uses it and it's great. Plus Amazon takes returns and doesn't ask anyone to cut their cords! 🤣🤣 With the Big 4 pattern brands, I generally cut a size 16 in a non-stretch woven and a size 14 in a knit. Sometimes a size 12 in a knit depending on the stretch of the knit fabric.
Both dresses are WOW! I don't know which I like better! Cut the cord?? They want to make sure you don't have TWO irons!! I have a Singer iron I bought from Joann's and so far it's working fine. Thanks for the info, Grace!
Thanks Nancy, I'm glad yours is working fine. Mine did not have continuous steam. I had to constantly press the steam button down. Plus other issues. I have another iron in mind that I'm going to try. I'll let you know.
Amazon does this as well. I had to do the same with a defective electric blanket. Having worked in the apparel design business we commonly told people to keep defective product as the cost to ship it back is more than the true cost of the item (Pennies on the dollar) being returned. You know, I'm not sure. They are not really sleeves. They are a bodice front and a bodice back joined at the shoulder. I guess you could add an inch all away around on the pieces.

I work for a company that sells electronics and we have a similar policy. We give the customer a choice to send the defective product back to us or cut the cord. I think this is a pretty common practice for more expensive electronics.
They did not give me the choice to send it back. I offered to mail it to them. I'll be shopping on Amazon. They take returns.
Oh my goodness the iron story is odd! I don't think these items are made well, they are made to break down after a certain time, so you are obliged to replace them. In fact this was confirmed to me by an engineer in the Netherlands who fixes household goods for free in a charity. Things that in the 1950s were made to last are now made to last 5 years.
Another thing many people don't realise is that a large number of brands have been bought out by Chinese companies who no longer produce to the same standard. Singer is now Chinese. Returning the iron to China would have made no financial sense to them and they wouldn't bother trying to fix it. When I bought my sewing machine and serger, back when I lived in Germany, I bought from an elderly man who sold and repaired machines. He said almost every sewing machine company whose brand you associate with excellence has been bought by Chinese companies. They're mass produced to a much lower standard and are misaligned. He said if I bring him a 1930s Singer, he can fix it but a modern one (my daughter's I'd brought to him), couldn't be fixed. It was new. Brother, Viking, Singer, Husqvarna etc are all Chinese owned. He advised buying Janome or Juki which is the same company and Japanese owned. They still make quality machines with good quality control.
By the way I do love Chinese culture, so not knocking China but in terms of things like household goods, violins and pianos you may not be getting the German, Swedish, Italian, American quality product you associate with the name unfortunately.
Yes, I agree. Quality is no longer a priority. Planned obsolescence along with cheap quality made mass produced products. All my machines: sewing, serger, embroidery, coverstitch are BabyLock brand. I heard that BabyLock is made in Japan. So far I love my machines and haven't had any major issues. I go through a lot of irons though. I'll be shopping on Amazon for my iron. They take returns. Scamming is the reason for cutting the cord-making sure your claim is legit.
I never even thought of that. I thought it was very disturbing to cut the cord. I even offered to mail it back to them. Well, I ordered my next iron on Amazon. They take returns and don't ask you to cut any cords.
@@sewlovelywithgrace . Some companies do because customers fraudulently claim products don’t work and receive replacements. Then some companies opt out paid returns. They could know that some of the irons are faulty and too much to repair.
