    I'm late to this one but, for years I've had a fantasy of running around the UK in my 2nd Gen Ford Lightning (if for no other reason than to piss off Clarkson) and as a result, seeing an American truck, with a great exhaust, trolling around the UK is just fantastic!

  • @joelfrantz3189
    @joelfrantz3189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    From an American perspective, it's awesome to see you see it the way you do! Over here in the states, everyone and their brother drives tanks like this, you don't even look twice. Except for limited production Rams such as this!

  • @proro1974
    @proro1974 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Most American trucks have had a hard life? I will stipulate some work themselves to death but the vast majority are just replacements for cars. The hardest thing most do is carrying something heavy from Lowe's or Home Depot.

    • @chriskelly9361
      @chriskelly9361 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I can confirm this. Most guy here in the states who drive trucks are "in construction", as in, they drive to the construction office or job sit on paved roads. Tax writeoffs are to blame for most of this.

    I've never had problems getting US car parts, in fact I would say you can get most parts off the shelf at lots of different UK suppliers with overnight delivery. Maybe it's difficult to get parts in Scotland because nobody likes to deliver there ?

    About the maintenance, a newer Ford F-150 would be the ones to import. It can be had with a detuned version of the same 5.0L engine and auto trans available in the UK spec Mustang and there's a lot of parts compatibility/modding potential there.

Great looking things, usually great sounding too. I certainly get why someone could fall hard enough to run one. ..and if i lived in the countryside and needed a truck, i would try my best to stay away from an american V8 truck, fearing i would fall in love if i didn't :)

    Your assertion about the availability of spares, cost thereof, time taken to get to the UK and through customs is complete nonsense. Spares are readily available, usually on a 3 to 5 day turnaround and even with customs duty and VAT paid. American cars, trucks etc are usually cheaper to maintain that those manufactured elsewhere in the world. Many spares are also available through UK dealer networks.
