- Hello everyone!
This is a cover version of 'Altered from Catechization' by Job for a Cowboy.
It’s not even close to a note-for-note cover and I focused more on the “flow” than on perfection. This is also the reason why I used heel-toe. Now I’m pretty comfortable with this technique and whenever I don’t want to concentrate too much on my feet, I simply use h-t to relax and enjoy.
Very special thanks to my buddies Bartol and Reinsn from bazn sounds & records, Sebastian from DreamCatch Audio and the “bluegarage”, where everything was recorded.
I also want to thank Mark from Pedaltrigger and Fabian, Hendrick, Dieter (and everyone who's involved) from Murat Diril Cymbals for always supporting me the best possible way - THANK YOU!

Except for the bass drum and the snare drum, all the drum sounds are natural and as pure as possible. We spent a lot of time to set everything and tried different microphones and positions.
For the bass I used a standard sample from the Steven Slate foundry and for the snare I mixed signals (natural sound with eq, comp and just a little verb; and again a standard snare from the Steven Slate foundry. I had to pitch the sound of the sample, so it would match my real snare)
Furthermore I used
Fame maple shells (22", 12", 14", 16")
Gretsch Cast Aluminum Snare (14"x7")
Pearl Demon Drives
Roland SPD-S for triggering (bass drums)
And Murat Diril Cymbals:
20” sound friction crash
14" custom arena hi hat
18” power crash
10" china
21” custom mega bell ride
19” power crash
17” stack
19" rock china
8” luminous splash

I never used to be a fan of this kind of music...that is until I started watching your covers. Now I find myself listening to it constantly.
PeartFan211274 JFAC album genesis is truly a masterpiece
Can't get over this cover. The mix is so nice cuz he gets such a good raw-like sound and just kicks ass, including the trigger sample. I would do anything to get this mix. fav drummer right here
Man, that was unbelievably clean, especially those 16th notes on the bass drum. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite TH-cam cover channels.
Just fucking WOW. The reason I love this album is because of the crazy drumming and you made it look easy. Mad props
This demonstrate that JFAC drummer composes amazing beats.
the drummer that recorded this album left them over eight years ago.
Elliott Sellers was one hell of a drummer and so young also!!
Unfortunately he retired from music and became a videograph/film producer!
Still love Jon Rice just as much!
You makes drumming looks so easy. You are the best David.
Ending is GODLY! repeat
Nice how your kit has evolved and grown over the years
Very impressive... fun to watch!
That's a nicely performed heel toe technique.
yeah this shit is fire. love your covers brother
good job man, one of my favorite songs by them
those are some fucking dope cymbals. AMAZING videos man. you are a god behind the kit. much love!
Wish I could double stroke on the pedals like he does. He makes it look so easy, I'm jealous.
Classy as always !
This is so sick! Could you make a video about your hand and foot technique?
No
Man this is spot on man hope you're still drumming 🔥
Your videos are sick dude! Love how you keep with this death metal, blast best shit.
Great drumming David

Jon Rice is freakin genius! Real drummers play with time signature! Nice work mate!
It wasn't Jon Rice
This album was recorded by Elliott Sellers.
Just to clarify, even after 1 year lol.
Sick drummer right here

очень круто ты играешь!!!
Oh thanks TH-cam! You showed this video in recommendations only after 4 years!
Sick cover!
I wonder if you mix your audio yourself?
I would to see one for Children of Deceit... If you ever do a JFAC playthrough again. Also would like to see something from Aborted, maybe Avenious or ....And Carnage Basked in its Ebullience...
Fucken mind blowing bro, would love to see a cover of Behold, by Born Of Osiris!
How do you even play double bass that fast?? Wow!
My guess is double strokes
no he uses swivel xD Heel toe is faster
Here he is using Heel toe and swivel
By practicing lol
that part that starts at 3:31... is in fucking 11/8 hahaha.
Nice catch sir
Beyond the Exosphere No. What you're saying would be 15 8ths notes for the whole riff, and it is 11 8ths long.
Beyond the Exosphere Yeah, you could write it as 2 bars 2/4 + 7/8. Also you can write 3 bars 2/4 + 3/8 + 4/8. I think one bar 11/8 is the simplest way (doesn't involve rythm change every bar) and should be preferred.
+Beyond the Exosphere I had a shitty brain fart and I need to change my pants
Easiest way for me to count it is a bar of 6/8 and a bar of 5/8 instead of one big chunk of 11/8
holy shit awesome...how is a song as complicated. as this even constructed?
cool man ))
....master
I rock a similar set up o this and I’m in love with the cymbal selection you have anyway you could give me a list of them?
technique is bad ass homes
Mistrz
you just made job for a cowboy sound good!
He didn't change the original song, so what are you talking about?
the blast beats on the album arent tight
david is playing "hyper blasts" in the beginning, where the cowboy drummer is trying to play regular blast beats but cant time them right so they almost sound like hyper blasts. google "blast beat variations" to hear the difference
I like the sloppiness in Elliott Sellers' style. Reminds me of Flo Mounier who also has a nice 'drift' in his tempos.
I think he makes every song sound better :) I much prefer his covers to originals
Are those doubles on the kick ?
Cover combustion inferno by Krisiun
SO FUCKING DOPE
bro could you do a tutorial how to tune the bass drum for metal?
champion. i think the last bit was 'altered'.... no pun. lil break in the snare missing?
what do i know im not that smeart
The V-neck is strong with this one...
trigger on kick?
Do where angels weep by vader
Do you double stroke all your footwork or is there a bpm range where you switch from singles to doubles?
in most other videos hes using all singlestrokes even though he mentioned that he´d like to use more heel toe.
He even nails parts close to 145 bpm with singles so i guess its more a choice of comfort
what foot technique are you using at 0:19?
He's using double strokes.
Its a technique referred too as "Heel-toe". It is used to play double strokes on the bass drum at high speeds.
TrashMetal25 if you guys could just learn to read the description... "This is also the reason why I used heel-toe. Now I’m pretty comfortable with this technique and whenever I don’t want to concentrate too much on my feet, I simply use h-t to relax and enjoy."
TrashMetal25 -_______- its heel toe dude. you can clearly see it.
TrashMetal25 It is heel-toe, brah.
sic as fuck. you're tight man.
Go ahead and laugh at me but it wasn't this guy laughing at me... It was GOD!!!
Something about how you smacked the shit out of that china made me happy.
David make " Day 69 "
im jelly, but inspired.
You gotta become a big and expensive session drummer for multiplatinum artists. If you are not then - Why aren't you&!! I can play this song too but the way you present it and film the cover,, damn this is good
cool pewdiepie plays the drums too
I give 1000 likes! \m/ \m/
Thare should be zero dislikes
2024
the ghost snare hits around 2:08 do not have any presence and kind of deaden the momentum - the start of this cover was better than the original though, i think it just lost some aggressiveness along the way.
that's why they are called ghost notes. it was perfectly executed....
@@hazardeur you've never heard a difference between ghost notes from one player to the next on different snare drums?
@@joelbennett9014 Of course I have but that's not what this is about. You mentioned that these notes lack any presence which is a weird thing to say about ghost notes as a lack of presence is their main trait. I would also disagree about the momentum statement. I think they are just the right volume and don't influence the song dynamic in a negative way.
@@hazardeur the sound drops out too far there, that's all. don't have to think too hard about it.
@@joelbennett9014dude stfu and just enjoy it or ff off lol
DEMOLISHED!
David honestly, are you even human lol
No he's probably a super sayin
o_O
hello! Triggers!
+Taylor Krinkie What about triggers?
LMAO. Jealous? Look again.
Triggers aren't "cheating". If they were, then I'm sure as hell a lot more drummers would be using them.
looool david using heel toe.... xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
*holding mask over face* Play Peter Griffin...
this is nasty dude..
The V-neck is strong with this one...
Wow
