She does her own background vocals. She's been praised for painstakingly recording them and you can find acapella versions of it. She writes and produces her own music, helping break ground for women in history. Control is credited with starting contemporary r&b, new jack swing and a new version of dance-pop focused on using hip hop production. while rhythm nation began using samples in pop/r&b. shes remarkably influential yet has been erased following her blacklisting.

    • @poptart2943

@@jaypierre8992 Jam and lewis consistently say shes a producer. Shes the first woman nominated as producer of the year at the Grammys. The amount of writers is because of sampling. Something else she pioneered in pop. Almost every song from Control to Velvet Rope is only written and produced by her, Jam and Lewis.

They can NEVER erase Janet Jackson. I am a 72 year old man and I've been in love with her since she played Penny on "Good Times." Her choreography is PERFECTION! I don't care what anyone says. Janet was THE dancer in the Jackson family! And how soft are the people who overreacted to her Super Bowl halftime show. Like nobody in the crowd (or anyone watching) had ever seen a titty! Yet Justin Timberlake suffered no bad press.

Janet's song "velvet rope" is so sonically amazing you will like that since you pay attention to the instrumentals. She doesn't have a video for that so you will have to just listen to that on your own time but it's worth it.

I love the fact she does all her background vocals as well. So it's always layers and layers of different Janet's harmonizing on top of each other. She also does her own vocal production as well and does co-produce a lot of the tracks with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis

Jimmy Jam stated that Janet had a hard time trying to come up with the melody for this track. He told Janet to maybe think of it as an Indian chant with a lower tone for the versus. Janet’s harmonies KILL!! She has the ultimate harmonized it’s unreal. Btw, Janet changed the game with this one. I remember the VH1 video premier and EVERYBODY tried to do the choreography!!

I love Janet and I get what she meant about losing that innocent image. She started out not only as a little kid actor/singer but also the youngest of the Jackson family. Everybody saw her as a little girl. I remember some people were shocked that she went from the Control and Rhythm Nation girl to S-E-X-Y! A few didn't like it but the majority were here for it. Everyone at my school, no matter what color, wanted to be Janet Jackson. Those were good times 😂

In the 80s Janet was very shy and never showed skin or talked sexually until the early 90s. It was a big shock in early 90s when she promoted the “Janet” album with the rolling stone cover posing half naked with someones hands over her breasts.🔥🔥

Her videos along with the other greats back then like Michael and Madonna really set the standard and raised the bar in pop performances/videos. Janet got you blushin' dude! HAHA. She was so damn good in her day. Really wasnt a bigger artist in the 90s. She had 16 top 10 hits in that decade and 6 of those hit #1. Everything she touched was big. Janet had some grit to her. Where Michael tried to be "Bad", Janet was. She had more edge and her songs had a tougher edge, If I had to choose a favorite Janet Jackson song, I wouldnt be able to. There are probably 5 that are in that top slot. She was sexy AF too. She had those abs and the body to go along with the songs. Video was huge for her. She worked it perfectly. There are so many JJ hits that this channel could work through, its highly unlikely youd be able to get through them. Glad you liked this one. Such a cool song. Don't worry, no one knew what the hell she was saying in the versus unless you had the album with the words laid out for you. Even then it took time to get it down.

Thanks for reacting to Janet’s music. Unfortunately, due to being blacklisted with the super bowl fiasco, a whole generation missed out on Janet’s music, especially those around 30 and younger. The “Janet” album and “The Velvet Rope” albums for me were her best. During the time of the “Janet” album, which includes “If” and “That’s the way love goes” Janet was actually secretly married, NO ONE knew during this time until the divorce was announced.

It was a top 5 hit. It's probably a good thing it's a bit unclear because the lyrics are quite provocative. She's never crass, she's just sexually frank. Other '90's artists definitely went the provocative route, too, but leaned into the crass aspect of it. I'm thinking of stuff like "Too Close" or "My Neck, My Back" or "The Thong Song". Some might have tried to lump her in with those artists, but she wasn't tacky about it. And the production values for her videos were consistently excellent, especially after Rhythm Nation.

Would have loved to have seen your face reading the second verse of this song. LOL! Great job on this. I vote "Anytime, Anyplace," "Black Cat" or "When I Think Of You" as your next Janet reaction.

I was wondering of anyone was going to comment on the lyrics?

Please react to Janet Jackson ‘got til it’s gone’. Features a sample from Joni Mitchell, and rap from Q-Tip. First single from the velvet rope album. Very different for her. Video won a Grammy

I love how you take songs "to the lab" Watching you break down and analyze the songs has become my favorite things to watch

Impressive how two single letters put together can mean and tell so much.
