    It was so easy to order the perfect gift. The Proyama chaps were delivered to my door in a few days. They were a good fit and he feels much better about using the chainsaw with the additional safety equipment. I liked that the chaps could be adjusted to fit so I didn't have to worry about size. I also like the way the chaps were packaged, they were easy to wrap. I will definitely shop on line from amazon in the future.

      Thanks CF. You know, for a person starting out, it may not be a bad kit setup especially since it wraps the lower leg better. The forester helmet and chaps was my first setup. I cut for quite a while with nothing.

    They don’t look too bad for the price I agree 100%. I’m very hard on myself about wearing chaps every once in a while I get lazy and I think to myself what if this is the time the accident happens especially running some big cc saws things kick back very quick sometimes

    Mr Joe. Very good topic.
    I've used chainsaws for most of my life and have never worn a pair of chaps.

      Good deal Mike! When I am cutting cookies, I may not from time to time. But, if I am working around limbs and moving quickly not just bucking a log, I wear them. It can happen super quickly. Have you seen the video where Indiana Doug hit is leg?

      @oakiewoodsman I'm going to start making use of them.

      For sure AP. I am serious about the heat though. I really think that I am going to appreciate a lighter weight outer shell. Of course, a person needs to factor in how they treat them. I have a tendency to treat them like knee pads at time so I am not sure these would hold up quite as well. But again, many people do not run a saw as much as you and I and certainly not nearly as much as a full time professional.

    I wish I could order off Amazon I'd definitely get a pair. My guess they are much better than nothing. Only time I ever wore chaps is when I was falling being employed by an employer. That was years ago so no idea what happened to them. Anyways if I could I'd order a cheap pair!

    I personally often go without a helmet and even hearing protection but I generally do wear chaps. I’ve seen what happens when a guy takes a chain to the knee. Personally depending on what your cutting conditions are like, we generally don’t want the long wrap type because the straps can get caught in low brush. Think I’m on my third pair in 30 years. The first two got retired from having to many mysterious cuts in them and I don’t think I can remember doing a single one 👍🏼

    • @dgoodman1484
      @dgoodman1484 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, and I also just prefer them to be green that quickly turns to black with oil! Not a big fan of the orange clown suits but that’s just a personal preference 👍🏼

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The low brush can certainly be an issue and I had this happen to me recently. Awareness is the most important thing when running any equipment. I will still wear them however but be more aware of my surroundings and trip hazards. Thanks for sharing that story below. CRAZY how fast it happened!

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ah.... I c the green would turn dark then huh? I have been wanting to get a pair of black ones. I do however like high vis when there is equipment running around with you.

    • @dgoodman1484
      @dgoodman1484 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it definitely just depends. We had three guys get killed in two years including my cousin so I’d walk off a job where anyone is within two tree heights of a faller. Generally we’d go in and finish a section completely before I’d let equipment in. Can’t say what’s normal these days. Mostly I’m biased against the bright colors because I became a surveyor working next to highways and once they mandated bright vests accidents skyrocketed because traffic started watching us instead of the car in front of them. Hi vis has it’s place but it’s not for me generally. But that’s just me. But yeah, eventually they will turn dark from the bar oil. Even the orange. Good news is once they do they repel water really well and become pretty water proof 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @dgoodman1484
      @dgoodman1484 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don’t think I’ve ever seen a faller that wasn’t wearing them. Most are pretty cut up with is why we all wore them. Plus they kept you pants from getting covered in oil and kept from wearing out your knees. Drove a buddy to the hospital once that just took them off and to get out of there faster ran over to help the landing guy out and cut right into his kneecap. I don’t fall anymore but I still wear them for anything more than cutting up a dropped branch in the yard 🤷🏽‍♂️

      @oakiewoodsman they have 545s, the pants are Stihl, and the chaps are Husky. They'll supply zipper back chaps because ohs doesn't like the buckle backs. They say if the chain hooks the buckle backs, it could spin the chap around the leg and expose the skin.

    All three of these chainsaw chaps clearly state that they do not protect against the torque created by electric chainsaws. Be aware.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have looked into that.... and even checked the amazon listings for the Proyama and the Husqvarna. I cannot find that as true. Better yet, I have also seen numerous videos where this has been tested against electric saws and they worked as intended.
      The disclaimer does however state that they are not a replacement for proper saw usage and practices. I would assume that they cannot be 100% effect 100% of the time. Just makes logical sense to me.

      I wanted to come back and say I have found something interesting on this. In the STIHL 2021 catalog on ph 186c, it states on the bottom of the page WARNING FOR CORDED-ELECTRIC AND BATTERY CHAIN SAW USER!
      The fibers may not stop the sprocket on most corded, electric chainsaws, and some battery powered chainsaws, because of the constant high torque however, to reduce the severity of injury from accidental contact with the chain STIHL recommends that leg protection be worn when operating these types of chainsaws
