Honestly most people I actually like immediately say “yes, great idea! I wonder how we can ensure everyone gets their personal favourite soup? How can we get started setting up better soup kitchens?

I loved this series the first time. truly changed a lot about how i view things and changed how i think about prisons, political differences, and evil. everyone deserves soup. regardless of what they've done, not because evil is permissible but because we should not be monsters ourselves

I saw my abuser today, I had a flashback and started fantasizing about revenge and realized I was having an anxiety attack. I can imagine the worst torments for him, but I can’t imagine taking away his favourite soup

I have similar feelings. I think part of this is realizing that setting the standard for human decency - not just that people deserve food, but deserve good food, that people deserve more than the bare minimum to survive and function - is above individual feelings for the greater good, which is surprisingly hard for people to reach.

I really like the good soup standard, that's a good and practical way to approach it. Easy and simple to understand and communicate. The scale is also very good. At its most basic, is one's position trying to give everyone soup or to take soup away from people? This video has also filled my mind with thoughts of tasty soup.
Re: the reflecting on where religion went wrong and where leftism is going wrong, being arguing about particulars of bread is very apt, I think. With all moral systems, there's a risk of it deteriorating into moralizing to people's detriment rather than morality for people's benefit. For me, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne got me thinking on that from a young age, and I'll still come back to thinking about it, like, in considering how early puritan culture had a lasting impression on American moral concepts.

Not enough people go out into the field, so to speak, and test "theories". Academia loves theories and to debate them until kingdom come, engineers and field workers roll their eyes and use what actually happens based on human experiences. Theories are a good base or starting point, but sometime you gotta go outside and adjust for what is actually happening.
