Thumbs up for that young Dutch kid Frank van den Broek... He won the Tour of Turkey two months ago, and is the biggest climbing talent in the Netherlands... But even at such young age he does understand the importance of getting Bardet that yellow jersey....

I spend my holiday in Tignes the last month... I've been following everything regarding the sport of cycling since Merckx, Anquetil, Ocana, Poulidor era... Sadly I have never been good enough myself to compete... But believe me when I say that Vingegaard is ready to win his third....
I do not say that he will win of course, because a lot can happen in 21 stages.... Riders get sick or can crash... The weather will play a role, and a thousand other things....
Pogacar will win stages, and I expect a number of other riders to influence the final outcome in GC... But yes, Vingegaard is in great shape, just as Wout. That is what I did see with my own eyes in Tignes.

It was pretty incredible to see Wout come in best of the rest beating out Tadej in the sprint given all of the bones he broke a few months ago.

Bardet and his team mate totally deserved this victory and all that came with ,the tactics were very good, they made their race ,made their choices ,take their risks and in the end the victory is deserved, and the yellow, the green, the white jerseys couldn't have better shoulders to be !!! Bravo DSM Firminich Post NL !!!

Today UAE wanted to test Jonas Vinggaard ,but when they realized that Juan Ayuso was not very well, they preferred not to risk the fact that Ayuso could stay behind and lose a lot of time, to soon !!! However they will try again in the next couple of days, it's sure, they want to know who is there for the real battle of the GC !!

Nothing decided in the first stages. It will be interesting how many outbreak wins we will see further in this tdf. Because for about 90% of all teams this is the only possibility to achieve a win at all. I bet Bahrain Victorious and other teams will try about 4 or 5 breakouts minimum this year.

Of course, it's to soon to let one of theirs LT's loose time, they will need him soon ,and this is a rider that is very important, only the fact that this rider in the front of the race (stage)is a danger for to much teams whose goals are in the top ten !! Not to mention the help he could provide later in the race to his leader !!

Great to hear pearls of wisdom from those in the business.
To me it seems like the 2024 TDF is going to be interesting in the small details of each stage - as stage 1 and DSM winners showed, but after the terrible crash in the Basque tour took out many of the top riders (with Jonas having career threatening injuries)and totally upended their path of preparations for the TDF (Jonas has not been on a bike in a race since the Basque) to me this means that Tadej and UAE have the Yellow Jersey in Nice sewn up and from the GC perspective the 2024 TDF is a mere victory procession for Tadej, this no matter what Jonas said in a pre-race interview about feeling ready to race.
It’s very sad as what we all wanted and needed was a totally fit and fully prepared UAE, VLB, Bora, DQS who would duke it out for ultimate GC win in Nice.
Tadej will win GC as he and his team are 100% race fit and his rivals are all just racing to rebuild individual and team fitness and go for stage wins but are not going to be able to or try to compete vs UAE for overall GC. I include Bora in this.
VLB will ride their own race but not the deeply competitive with UAE tactical race everybody wants and expect from a team aiming at yellow in Nice.
In a post race interview an emotional WVA said ‘we rode to test the limits of ourselves’ and explained that he was delighted to find he was fitter than he thought but it is just Day 1
Frank Van Den Broek’s ride was the entry of a new star in the firmament.
Hopefully next year in 2025 for the TDF will be what we need, but let’s enjoy each stage this unique year.

It's normal, first day of the tour, the heat ,the pressure, when some of the riders came from altitude training camp used to 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, start with 30 and more on a stage like this on the first day, I think that's why so many riders had struggled, suffered to stay with the pack !!!
