I don't see why the employees have to testify in court to convict the shoplifters. All that should be needed is the video of them taking items without paying for them and them being caught with the stolen items.

The real answer is you don't HAVE to. I work in Asset Protection and most of the time we will receive a subpoena/request for records and they will state we can either send a Certificate of Records summarizing your qualifications and the evidence provided, and if one is not returned they may reach back out to request testimony regarding the evidence turned over. Otherwise there's no guarantee the files are authentic and/or accurate.
On occasion for larger/unique cases they may call in the AP Leader or whoever made/ran the stop/Investigation on the subject, but it's not like cashiers are going to court every time someone pockets a steak lol

I only saw it happen once and I shop there weekly. Very little is locked up in stores in my area. I don't understand why the local government puts the responsibility of law enforcement on the store. The reality is we would need to pump more funding into the criminal justice system in order to process and prosecute all crimes. Are you willing to ask Congress to adjust their budget allocations or are you willing to pay additional taxes? We need to get the funding from somewhere. As it currently stands, many court cases are crazy backlogged and it can take weeks or months before a trial takes place. If I were wrongfully accused of a crime I did not commit and I couldn’t make bail and had to wait it out in county jail until the matter can be resolved by a judge, I would be absolutely miserable and terrified of dying in county jail. All because city resources were tied up prosecuting misdemeanor offenses.
Is it right? No, absolutely not. Criminals should be punished. But it’s going to require a heck of a reform across the entire system in order to start prosecuting every enforceable crime. And bear in mind court cases usually take multiple days for arraignment, motions to delay a case, or if a lawyer has to reschedule due to conflicting schedules, plus jury selection, etc. This is all before it goes to trial. And in between that prosecution will be negotiating with defense for a plea bargain because settling this out of court saves the city (aka tax payers) money. Operating a trial costs money. And we would need to build more courtrooms just to have space to process these cases. And hire more prosecutors, cops, detectives, public defenders, county jail staff, etc in order to process all these extra people.

He stated it never happened because no cash was taken, however that was an impossibily because the cash drawer was in the back room. Managment ignored my request for a sit down meeting, the police were never called, the take was : It never happened: the guy was just hanging out because it was cold out, and "he was waiting for the bus", despite camera footage which clearly showed the incident: IT NEVER HAPPENED!! The next working day I called in Dead. The manager said :"You can't quit like this! Whose going to do all the work?" I said "I guess you are. Goodby now." I managed a retail store for 12 years, and had several incidents. The best was during the holidays, long lines, and two woman with a boy around 12 years old had a cart full of stuff in line.
Next thing j knew the boy had passed put in line and people were screaming " GET HELP!" So I went over to him, and he had his eyes shut , laying there, I asked the lady if she had called 911 yet, she said, and I quote , " I don't know who he is!" In my head I was like " WHAT!" I saw them all come in together, they were standing together, then I realized the lady with the shoping cart was gone! I started looking around, and she had snaked her way down an aisle and was heading towards the front door.
So I said " Oh, ok , I'll call.911, just hold on! I went behind the counter and picked up the phone and dialed 911, and said " Hey, can you send the police to my store, there's a shop lifting in pogress!" Lol! That boy miraculously healed himself just like that! And the three of them took off out the door, WITHOUT the cart, thank you! 😂

We drove down to the French Quarter in New Orleans and almost everything in Walgreens was in cages or locked up. As paying customers, this is no way to do your shopping. At least not quickly, or conveniently. We just left. Retail stores are letting shoplifters just walk out of the stores these days, even firing employees who try to stop them. It's no wonder this is common place now. And because it's a free for all at these stores, the rest of us have to pay higher prices to cover their loss.

Prosecutors have been caught faking evidence to maintain the country's high conviction rate, which has resulted in at least 1 wrongful execution (likely many more). I work a liquor store here in Modesto CA my boss gives me a lot of leeway when it comes to theft. More then once I've taken thieves to the ground then had them arrested for theft.....it sets a great precedence don't come here stealing or trying to rob the the store stealing gets you put on the floor and if you try to rob the store well you'll get to take the (room temperature challenge)

@mattburns7380. I'm glad to see that Modesto still has some sanity. I grew up there from 1962-1970. I lived near Pike's Park and went to John C. Fremont Elementary.

How are you supposed to get out of that Safeway if you end up not buying anything? You won’t have a receipt to scan at the gate.

Instead of chaining the goods, hire 2 security controls at the exit EVERYONE, no exits without be controlled and showed the recipe. This will for sure effectively discourage shoplifting.

To be clear you were filming the new security measures at this store for 2 hours and saw at least 4 people shoplift successfully despite the new measures you were reporting on?
And nowhere in your report did you mention then that the new measures clearly and obviously were ineffective?

How about you have to show ID before you're allowed to enter a store?🤔 The little dumb security gates in the video ain't stopping no one.

All they have to do is buy a couple of cheap items while shoplifting ,then scan that receipt to get out. Also, what if you can't find what you want so you don't buy anything, you haven't stolen anything, but you have no receipt to get out ?
