What puzzles me is why stores in those areas don't install a wall to wall counter with bars on top and security drawers under the counter. Customers could walk in to get out of the weather, but would have to stand at the counter. Then ask a clerk to get the item they want. Which would be picked and brought to the counter by the clerk. Once the item was paid for, the clerk would put the item in the drawer under the counter and push it out to the customer. Problem solved.

They won't move out. All this theft at big stores is calculated into the final price of goods. It is a calculated loss. Why do you think the stores would care? You are paying for it either way.
Accountant here: The reason things are expensive is because the stores have to factor in stolen goods as an "expense". We then increase the cost by however much we estimate was stolen. People complain about the price and blame it for why people steal, but people stealing is in part why it's so expensive. They're not stealing from big corporations, they pass that expense on to the consumer. We pay for what they steal.
All the retailers should raise prices on each item up $1000 and then have coupons at the register you scan that takes $1000 off each item. Then, if you steal one item, it meets the requirement to prosecute since it was $1000 on the shelf tag.

I can imagine how they would feel if someone rushed into their homes, grabbed everything and just ran out. The moral decline of this nation is beyond belief.
That’s how the world is today etc
