- hello!
i know it's been a long time since i uploaded a video but i was busy with school. anyway, i finished the dan and blair story. as you know, i love them but i knew they weren't meant to be together bc blair would've always love chuck more. for me, this edit is more like a tribute to their relationship. they went from hating to love each other and i think it was a beautiful story. if you want, please share this video. i spent many hours on this in hopes that you would all enjoy it. also, i wanted to say that NO hate is tolarated in my comments.

They ended up together in a lovely place in East Village with a huge library, a cute dog, an elegant cat and a prodigious child.
The problem with the story is that it is not Blair.She never stopped being an elitist.
That ain't Blair, she loves status, fame, power , wealth and the world she lives in which isn't what Dan gave her. Even her style was a mess when they dated, I love their friendship so much. Edit: it's confirmed she settled down in Paris, her dreamcity

@@apieceoflife2732 Disagree it was out of character for Blair to have a thing with Dan. Even her fashion, make up and overall appearance took a turn to the worse until she broke things off with him and started wearing headbands again. This was probably done intentionally by the writers. Blair was someone introduced to us deeply hurt by her friends actions of sleeping with her boyfriend, claiming she would never do something like that. Yet years later out of nowhere, without any build up, she does exactly that despite one episode before praying for Chuck's life, losing her Child. She gets into a relationship with him despite Dan not offering her anything she always loved. Unlike Serena she never wanted out of this world. It was her world. She loved power, status, fame, wealth, the publicity and the society. For her settling with a man who gives her that is very in character and as the show went further - sadly rushed - she developed into a successful designer over the years. Rather than adding this 5 episode relationship where by no means, I saw a progress or any hinted character development, if anything it showed for me how it wasn't for her and that's not Blair. She kept writing about another man in her diary, insulting everything about Brooklyn and Dan himself. How is that progress? She used him whilst she was vulnerable because she needed a friend. If we go by Gorgina'a words Dan manipulated her into it whilst she was mentally and emotionally hurting.
@@apieceoflife2732 Blair never started losing her toxic traits, I think some give the 5 eps they had too much credits and they weren't healthy by no means in my eyes. Not that it matters wether a tv show is toxic or healthy but the only relationship worthy of that is Blair's mom and Cyrus. The rest are all the same, some just shorter than others. Honestly I think the few eps should've been spent on Blair dealing with her child loss
She always has something to eat or drink when she's at Dan's place. It was probably a coincidence, but knowing that book Blair was struggling with an eating disorder, it just casts Dan in such a comforting light. I also feel like this is one of the rare times we experience the female gaze as a third party, and not through the female lead's lens- whenever he describes Blair, he displays so much respect and admiration for her intellect, her ambition, her talent as a strategist, whilst still acknowledging her beauty. He saw every, every bit of her and loved her for it. It was such a disappointment to see that mutual rise in maturity between Dan and Blair, only to have the air knocked out of it in few episodes.
See whilst I love their friendship, I think ppl give Dan too mich credits, man villainized her the moment she broke things of bc he couldn't handle a rejection or a no despite him cheating. It gave typical "nice guy" energy.
@Llo Mou definitely. Every character in GG is deplorable, Blair and Dan included. But I liked the fact that Dan's holier-than-thou act buckled really fast when he ran in the circles he himself damned. It's got a Tolstoy/Thackeray feel, which he himself says

Watching I thought he was more in love with the book version of Blair then the real Blair and she she didn't give into him, he finally showed his real self. I didn't see any rise in maturity either given how Blair was writing pages about another man whilst they were together. I think she matured more in S6 where she became a successful businesswoman but that's just my view
@@marpledays i disagree, i believe dan was fully and truly in love w blair coz, unlike w serena, he respected her, was understanding of her feelings (31:21), and (pre-S6) never judged her decisions. Had he held her up to the standard that was defined by 'Clair' from his book, he would've judged and berated her whenever she didn't live up to that standard, just like he did w serena, but thats exactly what he DIDN'T do (pre-S6). He was always there for her in her time of need and supported her happiness above all else, even his own desire 2 be w her (Dan: Blair, your prince is out there waiting for you. It might not be me or Chuck, but he's out there - 4x18). This is y he tried to get her w ch*ck despite being in love w her himself because that is what he believed would make her happy. Unlike w serena, dan knows a time a when he disliked, rather HATED, blair 4 all her cruelty, classism and elitism (Dan himself is elitist too, although he's too pretentious to admit it). Despite all this he manages to fall 4 her, wonts and all. Finally, when he decided to be selfish enough to pursue blair himself he went 4 it and succeeded. Blair was the happiest she ever was when she was w him and that's what's important to me after seeing her be emotionally (and once even physically) abused by that basstard who treats her like his property for so long (Chuck: You'll never marry anyone else. You're mine - 4x20). Her being 'in love' w ch*ck still was a writers decision (plus ch*ir fans were sending death threats to the writers to get their desired endgame). With ch*ck she was reduced to a weak, snivelling wreck (Blair: What I want is to be a powerful woman. But whenever Chuck’s around I just feel like a weak little girl. - 4x7). While with dan she is finally an equal in the relationship and doesn't fade into the background ( Blair: Dan is my best friend and when we're together it's great. I feel strong and safe. - 5x24). I'm not saying dan was perfect even b4 cheating on her (which serena manipulated him into doing but still is his fault as he decided to trust S b4 even consulting his own gf) but he was by far the best love interest blair had in terms of how he treated her b4 + during their short-lived relationship.
@@aminaismyname4318 He never respected Blair. The moment she broke up with him and he realised his act is over he slept with serena he wrote villainizing articles bc mr nice guy was rejected. That's when he showed his true self to her. He manipulated her the whole time, put on a show where he pretended to care and wasn't there out of a good will. Let's not forget he ruined her wedding out of selfishness. I loved them as friends but I really don't see where some of you get all that from in the few episodes they had together as a filler couple. It was clear he never loved the true Blair, tried to change her into the Book version he wanted and even said, she doesn't like schemes and takedowns which is part of her personality. As Chuck said Nate and Dan are both fools for wanting her to change. He didn't accept her dark sides despite him being GG himself (also her kid loss is smth I can't forgive Dan for, he never got any consequence nor apologised to her instead he acted like her savior)
I disagree with the fact that Blair was happy since she wrote pages about missing and loving another man, she used Dan then threw him away. Let's not forget that every character on that show is emotionally abusive and were violent at some point especially Blair. She even slapped Dan. I always thought Louis was good or the best optiom for her until Blair ruined him. In my eyes her marrying someone like Chuck was fitting for her character as a whole. He was/had everything she wanted and desired: wealth, power, status, fame. Nothing that Dan could give her and in the end she became a strong powerful businesswoman whilst living paris, living her dream and Dan ended up as a terrible writer according to the reboot. She wasn't like Serena who wanted out of her world and Dan seemed more like an old money affair but I wanted her on her own, sailing away with Serena.

a lot of people think they were random but i think their relationship made the most sense and they were so cute and simple even though they didn’t end up together i think they both deserved a relationship that didn’t have so much drama i feel the same way about serena and nate

Made sense? Both cheated, she was crying over some guy, praying to god then the next minute she was with Dan for 5 mins. They ruined the friendship for nothing.

@@poeticlakes They didn't make sense, Blair was praying to God for Chuck safety which shows her love, was running away with him one minute the next she was with Dan. There was no romantic build up. It just happened.

I think that if you rewatch the show as an adult rather than as a 14 yr old, you will easily see that dair is superior.
For me it was the opposite despite being in my 20's, Dan and Blair just didn't make sense as lovers but I do admit that it's regretful the writers ruined their beautiful friendship

I think it’s a selective bias rather than an age thing. I watched the show when I was fifteen and rewatched just recently almost ten years later at twenty four. I still prefer Chuck and Blair. But now for thematic reasons, since Chuck and Blair were twin flames, and you don’t see it presented as well in television.

The problem was the lack of romantic build up and writing, we literally see Blair running off with Chuck then getting into an accident due to Trip and Dan's involvement which resulted in Blair losing her child and praying to god to keep Chuck save. Suddenly due the show being on the edge of being cancelled she gets with Dan and dates him for 5 eps. It wasn't a good build up tbvh.
Even Leighton and Penn said Dair was the superior couple in various interviews

@@ericdarperio2197 youtube won’t let me post links, but if you google ‘penn badgley dan and blair’ he calls blair dan’s “soulmate” in 2 different interviews. There’s also an interview on youtube where Leighton says that Blair is her “best self” around Dan.
Leighton also loves Chair and rooted for them to be endgame there are various interviews, she is just friends with Penn haha. I wouldn't take it seriously, she doesn't like the show and dislikes being reduced to it or asked.

Let's face it, Serena got the lead role, but Blair got every boy to get madly crazy about her, to do stuffs that they usually don't, and they did it for her. Chuck, Dan, and even Nate sometimes. Blair was the star of that show.

What I hate the most is that after they broke up Blair went right back to her season 1 dislike of Dan like they never dated and she hasn’t known him for years. It was obvious the writers wanted no competition for their beloved Chuck x Blair and ending. This was on the CW so I’m not surprised, the did the same thing with Delena from the Vampire Diaries. I hate when the writers make it obvious who they ship
You hit the nail on the head. I get that writers and show runners have the characters endgame already decided when they make the show but my problem with GG is they made Blair revert back to s1 in order to hate Dan again? If they wanted her to be with Chuck it was a way they have could done it without ruining her friendship Dan.

When dair finally got together i thought that the slowburn and every subtle hint at them dating was GENIUS but i guess the chuck and blair hype was too strong at that time so they had to split them up
Hint of them dating? I saw a good pair of friends suddenly getting thrown into a relationship and the writers never hearing of platonic friendship. One minute she was praying to god then the next she was with Dan bc he wanted a relationship. It I saw not slow "burn" or hint of them dating despite having watched the show multiple times.

Story wise and character wise it made no sense for Blair but y'all close your eyes bc of a little ff created in your head. The 5 eps could've been used to see Blair deal with losing her kid and getting revenge on both Trip and Dan instead

They loved Chair and wrote the show arc to their insane chemistry from S1 on. Even in the reboot they admitted that it failed due to the lack of a C&B love story. So rather than blaming the fans you should blame the creators & the writers. For them Chair was always endgame and so is it for most of the audience. The one in denial is you.
You can like Chuck and Blair but bruh, after a while you realize the writers made their relationship purely toxic to the point they RUINED Blair's character. They made her run back to Chuck every single opportunity when she had multiple options to choose from. The writing between dair was so good and had such immense potential, but the writers got lazy and just completely gave up, reverting all the characters right back to their high school selves, deteriorating all the character development
Dan and Blair together were probably one of the healthiest relationships in the show.
I will never forgive this show for ruining such a realistic, healthy, relationship. Dan was one of the only people that could see Blair for who she really was, and Blair actually became a better person with him. Having him cheat on her was soooo out of pocket. We could all tell he was madly in love with her and would never do that, but they needed something to mess with the ship.... also Blair marrying the most toxic guy who constanly made her suffer is actually repulsing. She was becoming such a strong, independent woman and they had to ruin it.
When Dan and Blair talk about their internship or their movies/art is the only time in the entire show that 2 main characters talk about something other than relationships or their friends or their friends’ relationships lmaoooooo

I was a Chair supporter back in the day when the show aired. And it didn't make sense to me to put these two together.. but now that I see this again as an adult, I can see the real chemistry. Both physically and intellectually. He subconsciously always had a soft spot for her, even when she only offended him and was hostile to him. He was always by her side, helping her and supporting her in all ways. And she would always lean into him for a real support and genuine affection. It was just a matter of time before they reached out to each other in time. I am sure if the hype for Chuck was not so strong during the time it aired, these two would have been endgame!
This is interesting because I rewatched and despite being an adult, I didn't see it. It made no sense writing wise and for Blair's character. She just lost her Baby and suddenly she was with Dan? I didn't see where he was there for her or feel any romantic chemistry, just intellectual which made them better friends than lovers but it's interesting to see different opinions.
That'd said I don't think they would've ever been endgame for that they didn't last long and the writers never had any intentions.
dan was simping for her all the time and blair was friendzoning him in return, then they hooked up and showed complex and stable relationship so writers went full on damage control mode because the tv show was meant for teenagers, and teenagers like immature relationships, so chuck and blair was the way to go besides they were close from the beggining

See the reason I liked them is because they like genuinely grew to like eachother. There was no instant connection or attraction but, getting to know one another and building a relationship. Very real and genuine.

I can't believe I watched the entire thing. I loved Blair and Chuck, but I was absolutely in love with Blair and Dan. They're soulmates, idc idc. In my head, they got married and lived happily ever after.

They were the only couple that made sense in my opinion. It’s like putting fire and ice together.

I think from the very beginning Dan and Blair are what the showrunners and writers wanted to be endgame. The ever-growing friendship between them, acknowledging one another's flaws first and then slowly learning each other's strengths and the beauty in those strengths shows that the showrunners had carefully thought this out. Serena and Dan were never meant to be the last for the entirety of the show, Serena for Dan was supposed to be the stepping stone for him to find his equal in Blair, and the same goes for her. Chuck was Blair's stepping stone to finding herself which would have led to Dan. I think although the narrative changed throughout seasons and the original plan for them to get together had also changed, their getting together was never random, it was a natural progression of two people hating each other and learning to be healthy being in each other's presence to, learning to love, to eventually embrace true love and equal love in one another. I don't think the showrunners ever predicted the number of fans loving Chuck and Blair's dynamic so much, and their toxic relationship becoming a very appealing and the very attraction for the audience to the show. And because of those fans deeply loved the toxic dynamics and relationships, the showrunners became scared when people started to compare Dan's affection for Blair to Chuck's, even when Chuck should have been the villain of the entire show. Deeming the fact he tried to assault Serena in the first few episodes along with Jenny and then later slept with Jenny while she was underage.
Dan and Blair had a clear understanding of one another, in their flaws, strengths and their bodies. and I will forever be a Dair shipper. While I can see the appeal of Chair, I will never understand anyone who supports that ship/relationship and will immediately see it as a red flag.
Sorry to break your heart but non of that was the case Chuck and Blair was the writers and showrunners endgame since S1 (they love them together). They always talked about these 2 would be final just that a show needs drama. They just didn't have much ideas left by S5, tried to explore a new random dynamic till the final will they won't they ending that's why these 2 here dated. Even in the reboot the admit it failed bc they didn't have a couple (love story) like Chuck never Blair who till this day is very popular and carried the show.
I disagree with most of the things you said since Dair is toxic too and what you are saying wasn't visualized on the show itself but just wanted clarify that part.
On a side note: Jenny and Chuck were 2 years apart when they slept together, Nate literally dated a minor on the show. I think u shouldn't just point at Chuck.

@@Ambereigh Yeah it's strange how anyone could believe a intended, random 5 ep filler relationship to try a new dynamic out would ever be endgame. The creators and writers were the ones who changed Chuck's role due Ed and Leighton's incredibly chemistry (that's why he felt like a different character in the pilot where they followed the books and he was the villain). They always made it clear that it was chuck and blair since S1. There was never a different endgame and OP also gives that romantic relationship too much credits. Non of what they are describing was on the show .. just in their head but I've realised that seems to be the case with many Dair fans.
Not to rain on your delusions, it's fine to ship whatever but Dan and Blair were never endgame or thought as endgame by the writers and creators. It pretty much became a thing in S4 only. You really shouldn't spread that factly wrong narrative for your own toxic ship.

It is astounding how these writers probably accidentally made the best couple who actually DEVELOPED. These two both had prejudices but found throughout the years to respect each other. They actually pushed each other to address traumas that led to bad behavior.

DAN and BLAIR was the best part of the show. They should've been endgame. If you think about it in retrospect, it was always Dan and Blair. After Louis, they should've continued with DAIR, but they prematurely ended it; a grave mistake. Blair was herself with Dan, and I feel like Dan cared and looked after Blair more than Serena, he truly did love her more. It was simply real and genuine.
I re-watched gossip girl recently S3/4 dair is genuinely so fun and enjoyable 💀 enemies to lovers/ rivals to lovers PERFECTION and it's so obvious writers ruined their relationship to make way for chair - which i have a soft spot for despite how problematic he is.

In my world, Blair finally got fed up and accepted the fact that chuck and her were never going to happen.
Blair might’ve been heartbroken, but Dan would be there for her no matter what. Lets be real, if the writers didn’t force it Dan and Serena would’ve never happened, so Dan would go comfort Blair. Eventually they accept their feelings for eachother, and give their relationship a PROPER chance with no more obstacles.
And in the end, Dan and Blair would have ended up together. PLUS RUFUS AND LILY. Come on it was just REPULSIVE to see her back with William at the end. Just so that Dan and Serena could be together. It was a sloppy ending imo

I always thought they had more build up than any couple on the show. They always seemed to find each other in times of need. They always had the most in common and they actually acted their ages when they got together. They were so good together. I like to pretend this show ended in the season 5 finale

This just popped into my recommended all of a sudden. I remember loving this ship when the show was airing. The slow burn was soooo good, and I was just so much more compelled by them than the “endgame” ships. They just seemed so… almost real, I guess? That their respect and appreciation for each other developed naturally over time, through seeing all sides of each other, the good and the bad. So when they actually got together, it felt so earned.
I hated how they were handled in the end, so much of the character development and growth they went through together was really thrown out the window in the final season. They are both not good people, not by a long shot - but they did undergo character arcs, and I think I would have felt more satisfied if I had seen those arcs properly fulfilled. I mean, I do think the villainization of Dan was interesting in the final season (and as an adult I absolutely can see how his “holier than thou” attitude came full circle here), but him being gossip girl? not so much lol. And Blair backtracking on all of her growth and still perceiving him as an outsider? I didn’t like that either.

I think in a better world, Blair and Dan would have a healthy, realistic, romantic relationship. Blair would still be a Queen, but what she needs is someone to support her. Chuck is too self involved at times to be with Blair. They both are too much for each other and they end up bringing out the worst in each other. I know, it's portrayed as an epic love story but they're kind of destructive.
Dan has the right amount of love, patience, and resilience she needs to reach her full potential. He knows her well enough to get her references, and he knows deep down that even if Blair can be a bit much, she has a good heart. I think in real life, he'd be a much better partner for her.

they are too good for this show. furniture fans like to say this was "forced"... where? if anything, the story was organically bringing these two together more and more each season especially the latter half. but slowly because they had so many prejudices about each other. it was hinted at already in s3 in snippets when blair had that dialogue to DAN of all people about how she was sad about who she was becoming and "who else could love her but c*uck" because that's the "love" she felt she deserved... indicating he wasn't right for her. it showed she already cared about dan's opinion of her and he thought she did deserve better, even when they weren't friends!! that's the type of dialogue of second, better love where you realize yourself thanks to that person and discover sides you didn't even know you had. that's what dair is. and it's honestly the best thing gg ever produced, no matter how much they tried to tear it down last minute for fanservice (that's forced). more people remember their met steps scene when he gives her the crown than that most unromantic, tragic "wedding" to keep c*uck out of jail.

If you google it Leighton was also a C&B stan and rooting for them to be endgame in various interviews. I wouldn't take her words seriously either or give it weight. They say whatever and Leighton dislikes the show as a whole. Fans know ever couple on that show (including Dair) were toxic but that's why they are enjoyed to begin with. No one wanted healthy people or a healthy relationship. That's why till this day the ship and show is popular.
I also wanna add that no the writers & creators have always planned a Chair ending. Dair simply started in S4. They never had any intentions to make these 2 last, talked how Chuck is Blair's true love and even in the reboot said their love story is the story. It wasn't fanservice but them. I swear that after that scene when Dan sees Blair being hurt and accusing Serena of taking everything from Blair, I honestly thought that Dan and Blair would be the endgame. Plus IMHO Dan and Serena had exactly zero chemistry on screen, Blair and Chuck did have some chemistry (but Chuck was a r@pist and I will never forgive GG how much they try to humanize him afterwards), and Blair and Dan had such a great chemistry, great enemies to lovers.
Dan and Serena and Chuck and Blair just felt so forced. Something like Ted and Robin in HIMYM - writers decided in the first season than they are the endgame, and then no matter the character development, no matter what came latter - they just had to force all those couples back together for a grand finale.
Dan and Blair were a great couple and it's pity GG writers decided to ruin them.

seeing all of their scenes in one video really showed the GREAT build up they had throughout the seasons. chair only made sense because they match personalities but dair made each other a better person. the writers were wrong for not making them endgame (just bc digusting chuck is a crowd favorite). in real life, you just don't forget about a healthy and genuine love like what they had. the tv show may have ended with them marrying someone else, but in my world they still ended up together lmao.

This is such a bittersweet tale. The perfect story, with a perfect build up only for it to be ruined almost immediately once Dan and Blair started dating. Season 6 hurts my heart so much to see where they ended with each other.
The only time Blair really didn’t love Chuck was when she was with Dan. She didn’t love him, but his love for her gave her a confidence she never had trying to be The One for Chuck. I think Dan and Blair made total sense and would have been happy had they ended up together. Chuck would be the perpetual bachelor because he only loved Blair and didn’t want to be with anyone else. Like Ed said “I’m madly in love with Leighton, maybe so much that she doesn’t even have to be in love with me. I love enough. She’s mine.”
And still after years, still sad that this ship didn't end up together. Dan loves Blair so much he's been there on her lowest.

I was never really a fan of this ship, I think teenage me was too Chair obsessed. However, I've really enjoyed this edit, it helped outline the lead up and their chemistry. I enjoyed seeing them in this light, especially now that I'm grown and recognize all the ways that their other ships were unhealthy. This edit showcased their common interests, their wit and how they seemed to genuinely gravitate towards to each other. I really enjoyed this, so thanks for putting me on this ship.

They are two brilliant and cunning persons who are too prideful and have a superiority complex and are extremely cynical and sarcastic. Still, when they get past their pride they can see how well they complement each other in wits, in humor, in interest, when you hear a conversation of them with another person there's always a difference, they handle themselves smarter and classier, but together they're each other equal.

Saw this video in my recommendations. Although I was more into Derena. Dair was something that never happened before in a teen romance show. It had calmness. In a way the relationship Dan and Blair had is what you want in real life. Communication, understanding and compassion.
I think if the writers knew what they were doing and had control over the show. Dan and Blair could have been something magical. Maybe in an alternate reality, Gossip Girl with better writers could have handled this relationship far better than what we had.

Dan and Blair were magical no matter how little time they actually spent together as a couple.
Their sneaking around as non-friends, to rivals at work, to being friends in public, to Blair leaning on Dan for life altering decisions, to Dan being there for Blair no matter what it was, to Dan finding the courage to let Blair know what would make him happy, to Blair admitting she had feelings for Dan, to Blair letting Dan know he had her heart.
That was all magical. We just didn't get as much as we could have out of it.
This was my absolute favorite couple plot in the whole show. I remember wishing so hard for this ship. I thought its ending was cheap, but was still so thankful since storytelling doesn't normally give 'side-romances' this much attention.
