I’ve used those silent tools in making wind mill gearboxes. Like two of the biggest C8 bars stacked up for tools over 1m in length so we can reach bores in the part. Crazy how hard we can push those tools.
We do research on power skiving at our workplace, a colleague of mine had one of those tools on his desk for some time that was pretty much smashed in half due to sync issues with the software, but still a really interesting process
Wish my Sandvik rep knew about face grooving! It's almost 60% of my larger parts, but had to figure it out myself. Sandvik inserts sure do work well, but in my case the geometry wasn't quite perfect for face grooving. It is really nice to see how much they use their own technology.
Were you able to get your application sorted out? There is more support than just your local sandvik rep, they can get machining specialists and product specialists in there to support your applications.
we had prime presentation one week. in fact much of that presentation was the same as here. i do hobbing as my daily job. skiving would be nice to get to do or see.
hey john, you should check out nelson irrigation up in walla walla washington. i work for a tool and die shop that makes alot of plastic injection molds for them. there factory is pretty amazing and has alot of automation and some amazing CNC machines. i think alot of people would enjoy seeing it if they let you film. even if they dont, its a cool place to check out. love your videos man, keep it up!
The power skiving is cool, but how do you make different gearprofiles? How do you change the pressure angle, how do you make helical gears? How do you make gear-teeth of another size. Are the teeth good at all, or so they need post production. In other words: will it produce a smooth running gear or a gear that only looks nice? Anyways, too many questions are unanswered for it to be an obvious choice. But the tuned mass damper is useful for sure. If it lasts, if it's priced reasonably then just go and buy it.

@@wisniamw What's wrong with wanting to make an informed decision? If you're showcasing the capabilities of a product, then go ahead and actually showcase its capabilities. As in: _"do you want to sell it or not?"_ Machine-shop owners want a tool that fits their needs and has a good ROI, to be able to compete in the market. And there is some variation here: some make a lot of different products and need flexibility, some make safety critical components and need precision. Asking a supplier: _"who is this tool for, and what are its charecteristics",_ is the most reasonable and logical thing to ask.
@@sasjadevries my point is nothing is wrong with what you said and indeed you should look for these things when you want to buy them BUT this is video about a dude taking a part in a demonstration of possibilities of some tools, expecting more than few particular informations is more than too much :)

The audience of this channel mainly consists of machining enthousiasts and professionals, i.e. people who'd love to see these details. Even reviews of sportscars are tailored towards a broader audience, and they show more than _"oh, look it drives forward"._ ----- The latest video on this channel was literarly longer than an hour, and that was just another shoptour; this sandvik-video is more interresting (more exclusive content).
i started out manual machining in Uni, then teaching other students to machine and taught myself G & M code. kinda scary what modern cubicles have become...almost look like cages

Another advantage to prime turning is sometimes reduced vibration.
You can also get better surface finishished because the chips will not touch the finished surface. That's important for ductile materials.
