I saw an interview with Jeff Daniels about this movie and he said when they were preparing for scenes, he would look over at Jim and he could see the I.Q. points just dropping as he got more into his Lloyd character 🤣
Jim probably thought the same think about Jeff. They both got so into this, you can tell they were both having a complete blast making this movie. How the crew managed to film any of it is beyond me. After a couple months shooting their face and chest muscles probably needed physical therapy.
He also said it was difficult figuring out the role. He knew he could never upstage Jim Carrey, but he didn't just want to play a dumb person, so he specifically played someone with an IQ of 8. And he tried to make it so that Harry had a delay as his brain tried to process things. So there are a lot of times where someone says something to him and he just stares at them for a second with his mouth open.
You can see the clear differences in generations watching this! I remember being in absolute hysterics watching this at the cinema!! Especially at all the ‘inappropriate’ moments! Petey the dead bird killed me in that moment! 😂😂😂
7:23 - "To 'eke' your way through life?" - Yes, surprisingly enough for this character, he isn't mixing up his words. "Eke" is a real word, meaning to get by on very little money, being barely able to survive, etc/
18:45 Jeff Daniels is quite the guy. I worked with him in the movie "The Crossing" in which he played George Washington and I played one of his soldiers. I talked to him a bit during our lunch break and it was really cool that I learned a few things about my own cousin from HIM. Between takes, Mr. Daniels kept yelling "What's the score?" He was referring to the Detroit/Toronto hockey game. (We were filming in Toronto), so when we were chatting at lunch I started the conversation off with, "So I assume, you're a Detroit fan." to which he confirmed. I told him my cousin played for Detroit with Gordie Howe in the 50's and won the Stanley Cup twice. Jeff Daniels asked me who my cousin was, I told him Leo Reise. He replied "Wow, your cousin is "Radar" Reise?" I hadn't known about Leo's nick name. Then Jeff went on to tell me that Leo scored the winning goal in the semi finals against Toronto, preventing Toronto from winning 4 cups in a row. (That I knew), but what I didn't know was that Gordie Howe once said in an interview that it was Leo's slapshot from the blue line, winning the game, that eventually propelled them to win the Stanley Cup that year. I thought it was pretty cool learning all of this.
Really?? You worked with Jeff Daniels in a movie? That’s awesome. Yes, I know of The Crossing but I’ve never seen it on. The movie that I’ve seen Daniels do that was similar was Gettysburg
My favorite quote of the movie isn't appreciated enough IMO: "She gave me a bunch of crap about me not listening to her enough or something. I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention."

It doesn't hurt that despite the well beyond over-the-top comedy that Carrey puts on screen in this, he plays it so damn seriously. Like his hilarity is actually the straight man of the duo. He's extremely serious about the girl and the relationship, so there is a weight to the story, but everything surrounding it is a repeated gut punch of hilarity.

Jeff Daniels said once that out of all the movies he's been in he's most proud of this one. He's a dramatic actor. For comedians it's easier to switch to a dramatic character but for a dramatic actor it's very difficult to do comedy.
There's an episode of Two and a Half Men that actually showcases that. It's the reason I got what you meant here. I was stunned at how bad a few of them were at the switch-up. It was them, and the cast of the original CSI. But some that are good at comedy situations, we're horrible with dramatic sits. They were hams.
Sorry but I strongly disagree with that… it’s very easy for a dramatic actor to pull of comedy, but Not vise versa. Only few comedians are capable of being good dramatic actors… but dramatic actors are actually very funny when they’re in comedy movies
@@Eowyn187I disagree with this original statement… comedians are not good dramatic actors! Some are, yes. But most aren’t… but dramatic actors are actually very good at comedy

I grew up in the flatlands of eastern Colorado, and I can confirm that most people don't know that half the state is flat. People cross the stateline from Kansas and ask "where are the mountains?". Well, you still have a good 3-4 hour drive west.
I grew up in Denver and it was always fun to have the Rockies immediately west, and the vast open midwest literally starting right there as well. Could watch the afternoon thunderstorms well into the night as they drifted out into the plains.
My friend and I saw this in the theater during a weekday afternoon showing. We were like 2 of 6 people there, and we were the only ones laughing our heads off (figuratively; our heads didn’t “fall off” like Petey). This is still one of my favorite comedies.

Lloyd, at each and every point. Harry can read, knows fractions (you drove a sixth of the way across the country, in the wrong direction), and was the one who calculated the budget.
FUN FACT: The filmmakers originally wanted Lloyd and Harry to get on that bus full of women at the end. But Jim Carrey stopped them and insisted that, because the movie is literally called "Dumb and Dumber", they're supposed to be dumb enough to NOT get on that bus. And honestly, it's a GOOD ending! Because to be fair, Lloyd and Harry's friendship almost got destroyed a couple of times over women. If they did get on that bus full of women, what would've happened to their friendship? When they said they're gonna catch their break, they probably meant a break from women. It goes to show what good, real friends they are and how much they care about their friendship.

"Good, Stupid, Dumb Fun" Yup. That sums it up pretty well. This is still one of the greatest comedies around because it isn't trying to be anything other than good, stupid, dumb fun.
The only other things I hold up as high as Dumb and Dumber are some of the other Jim Carrey films and the Chris Farley films. Beverly Hills Ninja, Tommy Boy, Black Sheep. God I miss Chris. Two of the greatest comedians of our time and extremely talented actors and from all I've heard, just good and decent people.
This is a movie that features so much really stupid comedy, but it's just so darn hysterically done. I couldn't watch this movie without laughing if I tried.
I think it's because we've all had moments like these with out friends. Moments where we're just off the wall idiotic together, or so wasted stupid tired, or whatever. Things like this only happen between people who are really good friends, so the movie has this weird undercurrent of actual real friendship despite being such an over-the-top comedy. So over the top that it goes from making you wince to being perfection again.

It's refreshing to see that you reacted to the Theatrical cut of the movie. It caught me off guard, but I've always said it's the better version, since the Unrated version loses a good bit of Harry and Lloyd's innocent charm.
The part where Lloyd and Harry take turns singing the words of the Mockingbird song, and Mentalino reacts-- that's how I react to political talk radio and television.
The last scene with "The Bikini Tour", with the Jim Carrey line, "My Friend is a Little Slow, The Town is Back That Way", was improvised, as well as The Most Annoying Sound Scene was also improvised. That face was the actor's genuine annoyance. 😂
Hard to believe it's going on 30 years since this movie was initially released, still as funny as ever. And yes, there is a sequel that came out like 20 years later. Definitely recommend checking it out.
I watched Dumb and Dumber with my mum when she was 78 or 79.... Right at the end when they passed up on the opportunity to travel on the buss full of HOT CHICKS looking for someone to oil them up before competition's. My Mum said "they really are Dumb and Dumber,!"

Yup.
"Oh You're frozen together, No, NO!"
Classic Addie 😅
This is a movie that features so much really stupid comedy, but it's just so darn hysterically done. I couldn't watch this movie without laughing if I tried.
I think it's because we've all had moments like these with out friends. Moments where we're just off the wall idiotic together, or so wasted stupid tired, or whatever. Things like this only happen between people who are really good friends, so the movie has this weird undercurrent of actual real friendship despite being such an over-the-top comedy. So over the top that it goes from making you wince to being perfection again.
Yes, that’s what makes this movie so unique… it’s supposed to be dumb but it’s just genius at the sametime
@@nsasupporter7557 - I know there's plenty of folks who won't agree, and I grew up watching Dumb and Dumber (born in 1990), but Zoolander is one movie that I hold in similar regard. Really stupid, but also some really hysterical and clever humor in there.
@@maximillianosaben no, it’s not. Zoolander was a terrible movie! It’s nothing like Dumb and Dumber… I actually saw Dumb and Dumber in the theater when it first came out and it changed comedy
@@nsasupporter7557 - Enjoy that opinion. I'll appreciate both movies for what they're worth.
My all time favorite movie. My sister and I quote it all the time lol so wierd seeing Jeff Daniels in this after watching him in Gettysburg.
The Farrelly Brothers trilogy that are must watches are Dumb and Dumber, There's Something About Mary and Kingpin. All classics.
AGREE COMPLETELY.
The movie is one of my favourite, it’s so smart in its stupidity
4:22 it’s for reactions like that that I love your channel
Jim Carreys tooth is actually chipped in real life. The scene in the diner and he says saw it in a movie once. That movie stars Jeff Daniels
Yes, he broke his tooth when he was a kid… he did it in detention in school. He was play fighting with his friend and his friend hit Jim’s head on the desk and it broke his tooth
"his head fell off"
"yeah, he was getting pretty old"
My favorite part of the movie was the scence when the gangster sat in the van beteween Lloyd and Harry. I can nevers stop laughing at that!
Seen this movie so many times and still laugh. This time the funniest thing was you being worried about the hitman criminal's ulcer😂
Victoria Rowell who played the FBI agent played Drucilla in The Young And The Restless.
Very beautiful woman.
The last scene with "The Bikini Tour", with the Jim Carrey line, "My Friend is a Little Slow, The Town is Back That Way", was improvised, as well as The Most Annoying Sound Scene was also improvised. That face was the actor's genuine annoyance. 😂
The whole "He's got a gun!" scene is probably one of my favourite jokes of the 90s. Comes out of nowhere and is as hilarious as it is relateable.
lets go somewhere WARM... the aspen ski resort.. 🤣
We love You Addie because you are willing to deal with our nonsense, even if you have to go kicking & screaming. LOL!!!
“Harry! Your hands are freezing!”
Best line in any movie, ever! 😂😂
The soundtrack to this movie is awesome. I am from Nebraska and have been to Aspen many times in my life.
The snowball to the Mary Swanson's face always ☠️ me. You know family problems, but I don't want to bother you with that... Oh thanks 🤣
My Mum said "they really are Dumb and Dumber,!"
from the beginning to the end, it is full of comedy😂😂😂
Oh boy. Addie's in for some chuckles 😃 😂
You’ve been killing it with the classics. Dumb and dumber who framed Roger rabbit Scott Pilgrim.
You just can't beat great Canadian humour! I think I finally worked out where they got Terrance and Phillip from.
Those guys are born from them being like "south park isn't just fart jokes and bad animation, this is"
5:56 "What are you going to do to the bird?!?!?!"
Don't worry Addie, he is going to give the bird to a blind kid! 👍👍👍👍
Mary Swanson + Lloyd Christmas = Mary Christmas
We wish you a Mary Christmas.
We wish you a Mary Christmas.
12:04 (And a Happy New Rear!)
Read an interview with Jeff Daniels and he said if you watch this movie and can think of two guys dumber than we are, we haven't done our jobs.
Fun fact: The studio didn’t want Daniels in the movie, they didn’t see him as a comedian. They wanted another comedian along side Jim Carrey…. The only reason Daniels was in the movie was because of Jim Carrey. Carrey didn’t want another comedian, he wanted an actor to be his costar. Which is actually very smart
Look up "Alice" and "Kiss My Grits!" to get the "Excuse me, Flo" reference :)
I always loved how they removed the ski-lift car from the track, and just left Harry sitting there stuck to it. 😂
This is my favorite comedy movie of all-time. It's brilliantly dumb.
you can ignore the sequel (and especially the prequel). My buddies and I LOVED this movie when it came out and still quote it to each other frequently
Exactly. I COMPLETELY agree. You can skip BOTH. 😂 Seriously.
The guy who played Sea bass (C-bass) is a former NHL player.
Yup. Cam Neeley, five time all star.
So many quotes in this movie I still use today.
I have both powder blue and orange suits, top hat and cane included. Got them from a costume store in my area 4 years ago. 😂😂
People like a guy with a sense of humour.
7:20 What's wrong with eke?
Nice set of hooters you got there.
At the 13:00 mark, Jim's and Lauren's kiss won the MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss award that year.
I was waiting for this all week
21:15. Even now, I’m not sure if you know this is supposed to be a comedy, not a documentary.😆🌿🌸
Lauren Holly is gorgeous. In anything. CSI role was great. And she played opposite Jason Scott Lee in the Bruce Lee story. Damn good.
a lot of gorgeous women in this movie:Lauren Holly,Victoria Rowell,Karen Duffy,Terri Garr.
15:55 We’re not even at the ski lift part with Harry yet, LOL!
This movie really brought out a chaotic reaction from Addie 😂
There’s only a handful of movies that made me laugh so hard that I was crying throughout the entire thing, and this is one of them! Even to this day this movie makes me laugh even though I can quote it line for line. 😂😂
You need to watch Ari and Zach's (from Common Tread) real-life remake of the mini-bike trip to Aspen on Revzilla!
They actually did it! It's hilarious!
