Dumb and Dumber (1994) ♥Movie Reaction♥ First Time Watching!

- A tale of friendship, perseverance, and explosive bowel activity, Dumb and Dumber has everything you'd expect from a great 90's comedy. My only complaint is that it didn't have enough dead birds in it. C'mon now.

When he said he had a "rapist wit", he meant to say rapier wit. A rapier is a type of sword, so when someone says that, they are essentially saying "I'm so sharp with my words, I can slash you to pieces with them." The thing about eating her liver was a reference to the movie "Silence of the Lambs".
13:11 😂
“Pullover!”
“No, it’s a cardigan but thanks for noticing.”
When Jim says "I like you a lot". The way he says that has been quoted over and over everywhere.
The “Our pets heads are falling off” line has never failed to make me laugh out loud in nearly 30 years
“His head fell off”
“His head fell off?”
“Yeah, he was pretty old” 😂😂
@@Mountaina5150 😂😂
"So you're tellin me there's a chance" was the funniest thing to me. Growing up as a dorky kid I knew exactly how he felt. A 1 in a million shot with a hot girl was better than nothing
Husband? What was all that one in a million talk?
The extra pair of gloves scene gets me every time
The "Manly love" scene, where he reads the notice then is racing to finish and get out of there..🤣
Being strangled and complaining Harry's hands are cold too.😂
@Cheepchipsable your hands are freezing, cracks me up so much
@@dylanunderwood6594It's an amazing mid-fight tension breaking joke. A+ comedy!
Your hands are freezing. One of my favorite lines of any movie.
Aaaahh
Harry..
Your hands are freezing!
This film was a hit at the time, directed by the Farrelly Bros who's trademark is gross out comedy.
"Kingpin" and "Something About Mary" were other great films from them, the second in particular.
At the owl fundraiser Lloyd meant "rapier wit", rather than "rapist wit". Rapier wit means to be quick witted, or have a quick comeback in conversation.
The scene where Lloyd spikes Harry's drink and we later see him laughing whilst riding the scooter is a reference to "The Wizard of Oz", through a combination of the laugh, being in motion and the music in the background, (only just noticed that).
Also the lead actress was Jim Carrey's wife at the time.
"Dumb and Dumber", is an old expression to refer to two guys who are as stupid as each other, along the lines of "Tweedledum and Tweedledee"
The scene in the beginning where Lloyd goes "Good bye my LooOOVve!" and crashes literally made me piss myself from laughing too hard when I was like 11 years old.
Sea Bass was played by Cam Neely. One of the greatest power forwards in NHL history. Played for the Boston Bruins who he is now president of. Also started the Cam Neely Foundation after his parents died of cancer. They raise money to take care of cancer patients and their families. Overall great human, and actually pretty funny in this movie
Kick his ass, Sea Bass!
@@DavidSmith-pg1ob LOL. I've seen him fight. He definitely could!
It took me way too many years to realize that he's named "Se-bas" as in "Sebastian", not after a fish.
@@alerner1983 The credits say Sea Bass
I did not know that😮
This is the only movie whose world premiere I got to go to. They held it in Detroit, which NEVER happens, because Jeff Daniels is from Michigan and owns a stage theater here, so it was not only the premiere, it was a fundraiser for his theater. All the stars were there except for Jim Carrey because he was doing like Letterman or something that night promoting the movie. And they had the actual Shaggin' Wagon parked in front of the theater. It was awesome. ❤
The legendary actor Edmund Gwenn was on his deathbed when he was asked if dying was hard he responded "Dying is easy, comedy is hard."
"Samsonite, I was way off." I quote this all the time
The part when Harry drills marry with a snowball is fricking hilarious. I laugh every time.
17:44
There’s a phrase of having a sharp wit, meaning keen intelligence and therefore capable of very clever humour.
A rapier is a type of sword with a very sharp blade.
The phrase ‘rapier wit’ is used to indicate an extremely clever mind and sense of humour.
Lloyd’s speech is full of malapropisms (indicated by the Austria/Australia confusion in his first scene), and so he messes the word rapier with a much more horrifying image.
Thanks for beating me to it, lol!
And me.
and me
I beat you all off!!
😂🤣😂
“I make fun of myself all the time. My humor is very self-defecating.”
Even with a comedy like this and your own admission that there probably won't be much to say in the Outro/Discussion, you still provide 13 minutes of entertainment, insight, and charm. You're doing a great job, Whimsory.
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much🤗
Agreed, well said : )
Yeah that was a very informative outro. What I liked about the big gulp scene was how he paused for a second like he was hanging out with them, then says "see ya later" as if he built a relationship with them in that brief second.
@@ckobo84 I didn't pick up on the "Mary Christmas" thing until she pointed it out
@@Whimsorythis and Team America: World Police are my favourite comedies of all time! Doesn't matter how many times I watch them they always make me laugh
"What happened?!
His HEAD fell off...yeh he was getting pretty old"
😂
As for the lines I quote, whenever I'm watching something and there's about to be a fight I always say: "kick his a$$ sea bass!" 😂 Love that line.
I feel like everyone I know does...and has been since that movie came out.
'Me, Myself and Irene' is also hilarious
One of my all time favorites! And King Pin is right there with it
@@boarder6246 Kingpin is Brilliant
@@jamesfield1674 I’m so ready for their next movie! They better not follow in Quentin Tarantino’s steps and only plan on releasing a limited amount of movies. I need more!
I used to quote the “What’s the soup du jour?” “It’s the soup of the day.” “That sounds good. I’ll have that.” With a gal I worked with that prepared soup and sandwiches. 😊
my Dad always messes it up and says "what's the soup of the day" and it makes me laugh every time.
A classic. Killer boots, man! The Farrely Brothers have a lot of great silly comedies/romantic comedies. Kingpin, There's Something About Mary, Stuck on You, Me, Myself & Irene (also with Carrey). All incredibly fun films with the same overall tone (the Farrely Bros style is consistent). Comedy with a heart.
Oh, _Kingpin_ really doesn’t get the reaction attention it deserves.
The fact that Mary's name would be Mary Christmas if she married Lloyd is actually mentioned in the extended version.
MY FAVORITE line and one i quote often is the "who are these sick people!?" her delivery and facial expressions are sold so well, it kills me everytime.
"We got no FOOD, we got no JOBS, our pets HEADS ARE FALLING OFF" lol best line ever
There was several lines that were quoted a lot from this at the time, which seemed to be a focus in films Carry was a primary lead. 'So your telling me there is a chance' might have been the one quoted most often.
Cable guy is criminally underrated
Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is an amazing film highly recommend.
I had a really bad day today, but this Whimsory video helped me feel a lot better.
my absolute favorite scene in a comedy ever is the intensity of Harrys snow ball throw
Just the thought you did a deep dive for dumb and dumber tickles me... 😂🥰🤗
28:28 Glad you made this observation Whimsory. It's easy to be misled by these performances. Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey are both super versatile - and great - actors.
I was 15 when this came out and it was hilarious! Still laughing to all the jokes. Am I immature? Definitely. Am I proud of that? Surely. :D
Don't call me Shirley . . . .
@@fewwiggle I am Läski, almost Leslie. :)
32:45. The ending made this abundantly clear, when Loyd had a chance to undo Harry’s missed opportunity with the Hawaiian Tropic models, and simply doubles down on the moronic blunder.🌿🌸
Harry might be baseline less dumb, but I think Lloyd has more cleverness due to him exhibiting guile (even if it doesn’t always work for him), which Harry doesn’t seem to possess quite as much.
You said you can fix toilets.
You're a keeper.
A little bit of humor that often gets missed in reaction videos of this movie is when Harry and Lloyd are in the heart shaped Jacuzzi. Harry explains that he wrote her a “John Deere“ letter. This is another malapropism; he’s mixing up the tractor equipment company “John Deere” with “Dear John” letters. FYI, back in World War II, women would write letters to their men who were off of fighting the war in Europe. With “John” being such a popular name at the time, the letters came to be known as “Dear John“ letters. Love your reactions Whimsory.
"Your butt crack is out! I always tell people" Whimsory (2023)
the way he absolutely smashes that snowball right in her face from like 0 meters away always cracks me up
"Eat her liver with fava beans and a nice Chianti" is a reference to Hannibal. Very famous quote that was everywhere in the 90's.
Watching you try not to laugh at the bird's head being off was delightful AF :)
Nice thumb close up too!
My dad and I used to go watch movies at our favourite theater (now long gone), and can attest that a 14 year old me and my dad both were laughing hysterically through out. I don't think some people ever tire of "juvenille" humour if it's done earnestly and if everyone is fully committed to the act. For myself, this is a landmark film of the Nineties, from the music to the comedy. I absolutely love the song that starts the film from Apache Indian "Boom Shak-a-Lack"; I can't help but dance. The song that you said seems familiar is also a personal favourite, and has been heavily featured in films throughout the years. It is from the amazing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and is called "Red Right Hand" and you probably know it from "Scream". Finally, you also made mention of the inestimable song "New Age Girl" by the band Dead Eye Dick. I had a friend in grade 10 that was absolutely obsessed with the song and I have fond memories of us sitting in Chemistry 10 and him playing the song for us on repeat on his yellow Sony walkman. Your reaction reminds me that like most things in life, moments are best shared and it was so great sharing this comedy with my dad, and now with you. Off topic but I really hope to see you react to the teen witch drama "The Craft" from a few years after this was released. It also has a Nineties soundtrack that I still have on repeat.
I think I laughed more from your facial expressions than from the film lol. When D&D first came out, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE loved it. It didn't matter what age you were; it was a riot. It still holds up today as one of Jim's best comedies. Seeing your reactions to the ridiculousness of everything made me laugh too. Thanks for brightening my day.😊
Jim Carrey released Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber all in the same year. That's more success than most actors entire career. I highly recommend Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's a favorite of mine. Absolutely legendary.
The song is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Love him
For a "1st movie" director and bro made a masterpiece imo. The terminator of comedy movies
Seabass was a great actor when i was a kid i was afraid to look at him
I am EXACTLY who this movie was for! lol.. I was 13 when it came out.. and it was perfect for my sense of humor! haha.. Oh.. and don't feel alone.. I am 42.. and still have a child like sense of humor.. it's the best way to live IMO. lol.. Stay young at heart is my motto. 😋 One last thing.. That is one of the biggest reasons I love your channel/reactions... you have a very fun personality.. that's what makes your reactions very fun to watch! Every one!! So thx!! 😊
"I fell off the jetway again." One of my favorite sleeper lines. This movie is extremely quotable.
The way Lloyd wobbles on the scooter is classic Jim Carey. Harry launching a full blast snowball into Mary's face is a classic scene. An absolute classic.
The other movies are meh at best compared to this first movie.
My favorite is the tag to the sweet old lady joke, "I didn't even see it comin!"
'Again...' can elevate almost any joke when delivered well.
The line I’ve used most since first seeing this as a kid would be. “So your saying there’s a chance…”
When I was a kid, I remember my grandmother who was in her 70's at the time watched this movie and thought it was hilarious. She liked it so much she watched it a few more times with her friend.
Also my go to movie quote is: " Hold on to your butts"
I’ve seen this movie so many times it’s one of those movies each time you pick up a new joke- the one that still bursts me is Mary playfully throwing a snowball and harry just unloading at point blank to her face each time I can’t help but laugh
"I'd say...more like one out of a million."
"So you telling me there's a chance..."
This and Happy Gilmore are tied for my favorite comedies of all time!
The fact that the snot frozen on their faces on the motor scooter was hilarious to me makes me question what I thought was a slight intellectual slant in myself. Oh, well - I’ll be better next life. Thanks for brightening my day today, Whimsory.
I remember from an interview of a co-star or director, someone said when you put those two together on set you could see their IQs dropping as they got into character. 😆
The singing and the "your it, your it, stamped it 😂😂😂😂that part is my favorite scene 😂😂😂😂
Regarding the "ugly" faces, i think the Key to comedy is to be able to laugh at yourself.
Love your videos, keep up the good work!
You definitely have to be able to push self-consciousness way off the side (if not abandon it outright) to achieve those comedic moments of hilarious ugliness.
The "fava beans and a nice chianti" line is a reference to the movie The Silence of the Lambs, another classic that I'm sure you'll get to eventually (no 23).
Oh and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! is amazing! :D
Oh man, I so wanted that to still be right! SotL is currently sitting at #24, which is crazy, seeing some of the movies ranked above it.
But when you wrote this, it was #23 on the 250 List? Which means when you wrote this...Jim Carrey had quoted Silence of the Lambs in this movie; Silence of the Lambs was ranked #23; Jim Carrey STARRED IN THE FILM "THE NUMBER 23"!!!
IT REALLY IS EVERYWHERE!!!
@@underAtack Yes, it was #23. I assume it dropped because Dune Part 2 went to number 15.
Dune Part 2 - Dune Part 1 = 1.
#24 - 1 = 23!!!!!
"I'm sorry"
. . .
"No, I'm not"
Straight savage there, love ya Whimmy!
"I'll do a quick outro" 14 minutes later . . .
This movie came out when I was 12. My friends and I constantly quoted this movie!
"T-he... t-he... t-he..." - "the..." - that line kills me every time.
Your outro is spot on. Just a 90's comedy not trying to do anything special but make you laugh most of the time. Glad you got around to this flick.
I love this movie, one of my favs. The comedic timing is just perfect.
I say “killer boots, man” all the time. The cardigan pull over line is just so funny to me
i've used the line "he must work out" a lot through the years. Often do "the most annoying sound in the world" bit. and you often mentioned the odd music... this is one of my favorite soundtracks.
There is a sequel, it came out recently, a 20 year gap, same two main actors Dumb and Dumber Too, great reaction!
Whimsory's delightful out-tro style is perfect for this movie and fun watching movies with Whimsory.
I remember watching this on a Sunday morning when I was a bit wee kid. Around what, 25 years ago. So many fun movies I've watched growing up 😊
Greetings from Finland girl!!! Loved your reaction and even you had me laughing😂 cannot wait to see your reaction to the sequel!! "I'll be back" 😎
Hi Whimsory, somehow I managed to miss the notification of your last review so I have had the great [pleasure in watching you two days in a row. Dumb and Dumber is the first of your reviews that I hadn't seen before and I am encouraged to watch the whole film myself. Thank you for another great video and keep up the excellent work Whimsory.
When you mentioned that Lloyd and Harry are not afraid to look ugly, it reminded me about Carrey's tooth. That is an actual chipped tooth that he has had since childhood; he usually has a dental cap on it.
First, I wanted to say that you are getting very comfortable in front of the camera and it's great. 2nd, I'm 46, have seen this movie probably 100 times, and I still laugh 😂🤣. So don't apologize for your sense of humour 😋
17:37 "Don't say that! What did you even mean by that?!" He intended to say "rapier wit." A "rapier" is a thin, light sword good for fast and agile movements, so a "rapier wit" is quick and sharp.
Two Foot O' Buttcrack was made for the film and lost. Many considered it a mystery for ages. Then someone found the full song from the movie and posted it on youtube. Only recently was it "discovered"
When they did "Dumb and Dumber To" in 2014, they had someone driving that Mutt Cutts van around various cities for promotion. It drove past me while I was waiting to cross the street in Toronto and I nearly died laughing.
In the bathroom scene, that was a genuine reaction. The actor who played Sea Bass was having a hard time with the scene, so in that take, when he opened the stall door, Jim Carrey was there, mooning him.
So that's what convinced Whimsory that a non actor hockey player was a great actor 😂
I watched this dozens of times with my best friend growing up. We aren’t as close now but still text with lots of dumb and dumber gifs 😂
So glad I found your channel via this reaction of my favorite comedy from my childhood! Great video :)
The movie is still funny even today! Not many comedy movies are like this one! I liked the connection between the two actors! No mistake! Freaking perfect! They were like brothers in this movie! And yes! Your right! The soundtrack is pretty cool and very recognizable!❤
The toilet scene gets me every time.🤣🤣🤣
The same with the camp fire scene in Blazing Saddles.🤣🤣🤣
5:33 this is Lloyd in a nutshell, too dumb to know that you don't thank someone by insulting them 😂 this is one of my favs, these two make a dream team for comedy! another great reaction! 👍
Great video/review!
I quote this movie with my sister all the time, lol. It's just so good, one of my all-time favorites. Also, *massively* under-rated soundtrack.
You made my night, one of my favorite follows doing one if the kings of sophomoric humor 😂😂😂
Why has it taken me this long and this many watches of movie reactions to realize that the opening credits are misspelled? Good Lord. (Imitates Peanut's hand backwards over his head noise bit. Lol)
love ur attitude :) refreshing to see someone so light-hearted
I cannot wait for you to react to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Not a comedy, but IMO one of Jim Carrey's best movies, and one of my favorite movies ever.
Nice reaction. An under-rated Jim Carrey comedy to consider is "The Cable Guy," directed by Ben Stiller.
1:33 » BOOM SHACK-A-LACK(A)!!! // (when a child, I ran around playing and singing this song all the time 😆)
Lauren Holly doesn't get enough credit for this movie. She's hilarious and classy and total "girl in the white dress". When are you seeing Citizen Kane? It's great.
I actually saw this at the theater when i was in highschool! So much funny stuff in this movie 😂
7:42 I'm glad you pointed out the weird song. When we were very young, me and my brother used to giggle about that song everytime we watched this movie. Something about a "butt crack?" LoL wtf is this song?? 😂
Wow you really missed out on this one. I remember seeing it in the theater with my whole family back in the day. This one, Liar Liar and the Truman Show are Jim Carreys best films!
Me,Myself and Irene is also up there
This movie came out around the time the graduated high school. I saw it with my parents when it came to home video. We missed some joked because we were still laughing at a previous joke. One of the best comedies of my lifetime. They don't make movies that funny (to me) anymore.
You do a great job editing :) And yes us guys can make noises in the bathroom especially when we know we're alone lol
I ended up watching this 3 times at the cinema. Third time was just as funny as the first time. I still laugh at it after many viewings.
I was on a camping trip with my friends, everytime we drove up to the camping place or out of it we where blasting that intro song with open windows singing along.
Btw I think you need to watch Silence of the Lambs, there was a quote from that movie in this one and I feel like you missed the funny thing of it.
Ty again for another amazing reaction.
Hi Whimsory another great reaction,This is one of my top comedy movies of all time for other lowbrow comedies I recommend Kingpin (also from the Farrely brothers), Austin Powers, American Pie and The Naked Gun and Hot Shots The last 2 are spoofs of Cop movies and Top Gun respectively in the style of Airplane.Glad you had fun I did too.
I don't think I've heard such a thoughtful review of Dumb and Dumber before. Nice work. :)👍
Thank you, Whimsory, and a "Mary Christmas" to you, too.
Well, I mean, yes, Jim Carrey has really good _comedic_ chops, but he's also an actor with _range._ Like, the movie _Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind_ is a _drama_ in which he delivers a really solid _performance._
The ending with the tour bus is hilarious 😂
Hi I just subbed, I've seen your channel around but this is the first time I've tuned in, Loved your reaction and commentary afterward, this movie is just the perfect combination of right people, right time, it's a classic lol. My favorite scene I think is the dream sequence when they're driving and Jim Carrey is fighting the assasins, and punches through the one guys chest and rips out his heart and puts it in a doggy bag lol and after the dupe sea bass and Lloyd tells harry Oh I saw it in a movie once, the guys caught up with them down the road and slit their throats lol I think my most quoted part is the " No and I don't caaaare!" part when Lloyd is at the bar waiting for Mary and the fbi lady comes in and starts talking to him.
I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this movie. You have a very pretty smile. I believe the police officer was also played by a Canadian actor.
Lloyd and Harry are beyond awkward, in the funniest way, but have good hearts. I think it is one of the funniest movies. Thank you for your very good insights.
hey I just want to say I saw you getting emotional during the having nobody part, and just want to say your going to make someone so happy someday and hopefully you will be as well. trust me
So glad you finally watched this movie. This is one of my all time favourite comedies. It’s a classic. Jim Carey is so good in this.
