  • This are my thoughts on the Monitor Audio Silver 5i speakers, after buying them on a whim one day, and owning them for the past ...5-6years? I don't even remember anymore.

    Once I tried to find information about this series but could not find anything. No one has made a video about the "silver i" series before. Even on the official website there is only a mention of this series without a description of the products range. So this is very useful information.

      Thank you for your comment. I noticed the same thing (that no information was really available), which is why I decided to make this video. Glad you found it useful. Cheers!

    The best, most accurate detailed review I have ever watched. Hands down. Please keep up the great work. Oh yeah, Thank you very much.

    I've just picked up a pair of these for €50 including an MA Silver 10i centre speaker, all in nice condition generally.

    thanks for the review . helped me a lot on placement although in my room totally the opposite :) close to the wall toed in a bit more tightened up the lower frequencies and i got a super wide accurate soundstage . also on the rega mira clamshell it's a bit muddy and too warm. on the nad 320bee heavily modified just everything right . did u tired other amps too ?

      See! That's interesting! Placement all depends so much on the room interaction. Amplification matters too, of course... The amps that I used with these were an Exposure 2010 mk1 integrated amp, a Sugden A48b (significantly upgraded), and a Sansui AU666. I think I would have benefitted from a larger, warmer-sounding amp with these, but I didn't have one at that time (still don't, actually). Btw- I can see how that NAD would suit them well. That NAD probably drives them better than any of the amps that I mentioned above, actually.

    Just curious - I know this is an old review, but try 37.2" or 94.5 cm from wall. Any difference?

      Unfortunately, I can't test that, as theyre long gone - sold several years ago. Thanks for the comment, though.

    I just bought a pair for $260. They need more power than my Sansui QRX 6500 can provide, but they are still a significant upgrade over my Paradigm Phantom V1s

      Nice score! Is that $260 CAD? (not sure where you're located). If so - GREAT deal! (they usually go for around $350; $400-450 on the high side). I would bet that going from the Phantom to the 5i was like opening a much clearer window to the music. At around 30 wpc, you're right - they need more power than that. I, too, am currently keeping my eyes open for a higher powered amp, because I think these (and others) would benefit from additional power. I use 50wpc, which i find barely enough. The music becomes compressed at higher volumes, and I believe it's my amp running out of steam.
      Thanks for the comment! Cheers!

      @@BadMonkeyFinger_Audio it's $260 USD, do about $325 CAD. They definitely benefit from more power having heard my dad's pair driven at 80wpc. I'm still very happy all things considered though

    I feel sorry for your wooden floor. Seems to be quite a bit torn from all the speakers with those metal spikes. Never really got why would anyone use those just because of this single reason. Also cant image it has any notable difference sound-wise.

    • @BadMonkeyFinger_Audio
      @BadMonkeyFinger_Audio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The floors are being replaced, so it's six of one to me. I observe that bass tightens up when using spikes, generally-speaking.

      @@BadMonkeyFinger_Audio Oh, it is ok then if it will be replaced. I wonder what is the point of those. To isolate the speaker from the floor or to "anchor" it to the ground so that it transfers the vibration into the floor?

    • @BadMonkeyFinger_Audio
      @BadMonkeyFinger_Audio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elukok Spikes couple the speakers to the floor, which in theory does what you stated. Whether it's truly noticeable or not to me has been seemingly dependent on the speaker. That said, when the new floors go in, I have floor protectors that I purchased a while back which I'll be using to avoid all the pock marks. :)

      @@BadMonkeyFinger_Audio My guess would be that cheaper speakers with more flimsy and lighter cabinets would be more noticeable since they probably move and shake more instead of damping the vibrations as they should.
