Closing comments, location of ventilated seat switch & V2L switch, and old style wiring harnesses in vehicles which share commonalities with ICE vehicles which still have not progressed to bus-bars. So vanity or otherwise features like a "shark-fin" antenna on the roof gets a long wire and a hole in the roof, likewise the rear windscreen washer gets a long water hose and wire making multiple holes - but some other features vanity or otherwise meet the bean counters who say "fewer holes and shorter wires please". Which is why electricians like doorbells near the door itself and not somewhere near the back of the house. But then again, you got to remember, the Currv EV was intended for people who take their dog or dogs along. What were they thinking when they designed that back seat?
We can disable the sound of notification in nexon max as well as punch ev. So the functionality to switch it on/off might be enabled in nexon ev Face-lift as well as curvv ev. And Yes the sound is annoying.
Adding few more points where Kartik says "This is normal" for my Tata Altroz. 1) My infotainment system would just hang once in a while and android auto/carplay would not detect a device when connected. Got it checked at the Service center and they said "This is normal" and they updated software version and the issue was fixed. 2) Once in a while, although rare but my car just would just not detect the accelerator pedal when starting it fresh for the day, I would then turn ignition off and restart, post which car would act normal. Got it checked at the service center and they again said "This is normal" and we need to update the sequencing code for the DCA gearbox which should fix the issue. This is my 10 month old car and if they are able to fix it with great ease which would indicate that they have known these issue for sometime now. Question is why would they not fix it when manufacturing when they have already collated these repetitive issues Don't get me wrong I just did 1100 kms of long drive couple of days back and I was like this car is simply amazing at so many things, if and this is a big 'IF', they can sort this issues out they can really push 7/10 experience to 9/10. One final thing where you hit nail on its head, more then your experience with the car in itself your experience with the brand TATA is nose diving with these sort of quality and service center issues.
I have a, what trolls on the internet call, "tin ka dubba", its been 8 years now and I haven't had to change so much as a light bulb. Get my service done regularly, 1 year or 10,000 km, and I'm so so happy with my Baleno. I have shared my Tata Indica Turbo DLG experience on this platform earlier. 😂😂 I'm swore never to touch a Tata car again after that.
Regarding Maruti. I am currently driving a WagonR. 3 years and 90K Kms done. Zero complains. Just fill the tank and drive with occasional tyre pressure check. Servicing is also hassle free. I am very busy and can't take my vehicle to service centre twice a year for routine servicing ( not accounting for unforeseen incidents in Tata). The car is a car to go to places and Maruti does a tremendously good job. But in the back of my mind I am just hoping that maruti would also make safe cars... One more funny incident, a friend of mine who is a first time car buyer and has a Nexon petrol manual for 3 years now called me yesterday and shared one of his experiences. He drove a swift dezire manual for the first time (Maruti manual 1st time) and he was blown away with how smooth the car was (not brand new, one of our friend's car). As per him the gear shift was so smooth compared to Nexon that he thought it might be broken... 😂😂😂
@@shaktiswarupsarangi8130 I completely agree with you. Japanese cars are complete piece of mind. I too hope Maruti makes safer cars, safer structurally not just adding airbags to a flimsy frame.
Really nice stories about Tata. That reminds me of the story my friend says. He used to be an employee in Tata Motors in the analytics team. Like Karthik said, they know that the air con vents break, they know that their systems are glitchy, they know that their lock systems are not good (there are Harriers in which the outside door handles break). It is all in their data. He was in the analytics team and he did not even have to analyze it. It was just there. Their response was that it somebody else who is to be blamed. I have been an employee of Tata (not motors but the IT company) and I feel the culture is similar there as well. They are never willing to change and change comes only after a lot of fight and deliberation. Lot of times the change comes too late. This is the story of all Tata organization. I think they need to stop being scared of their mistakes. They need to own it and see how they can correct it.
I think after over a 100 years of operation, the Tata group is too much like a PSU company rather than a lean startup. I think they should really separate the EV division and bring in management and employees who operate in a startup-like environment.
@@sormazi I think they are already trying that but we need to realise that it's a big ship and it takes a lot of effort to steer it in a different direction. Especially if they are not used to it. I think their ship still has non assisted steering 🤣
@@sormazi hmm they are trying but the top management is from sister companies so getting decisions or direction through them becomes impossible resulting in the newer hiring frustrated leading to their eventual resignation
The "Normal for Tata" section hit really close to heart! I just can't recommend a Tata car to anyone in my friend circle. Personally, I faced a total failure of manual gearbox in Altroz Diesel at just 32000 kms. And the service advisor feedback- Sir machine hai, ho jaata hai! I hope someone in Tata Motors realizes that the gullibility of their customers will only last them a certain sales crest, after which, these experiences and word of mouth will certainly affect them adversely.
@@museycal so true I own a tigor the car itself is excellent but it's led down my the after sales, in the first year of owning the car. They never bothered to clean the ac filter and due to this it developed a small opening and this somehow resulted in the refrigerant leaking, the explanation was , the evaporator coil developed a crack due to the puncture in the AC filter. They changed it under warranty but then another issue came up due to this. The mileage dropped drastically, I used to get 16 to 17 in the city with how I drive but was getting between 10 to 12 and when I told tata service they said it's the way u drive saaaar and they looked at the clutch pedal and said saaar your clutch might be gone, I told them it's the problem with the AC the compressor never cuts off and car is always noisy they said sir AC doesn't affect the mileage your clutch is gone. Then fast forward to 1.5 years and constant struggles with the service centre about this issue, I decided to involve someone from tata motors. To solve this first they said sir Thermistor is faulty , they replaced it and it was working fine for 1 day then again same issues and after they changed my explanation valve. After 3 months because they were busy no wonder why. The issue with AC was that pressure between the low and high side where not equalising because of faulty expansion valve. I informed them about this , I told them for fact that this is the problem but no one bothered for a 1.5 years After involving tata motor , though my issue is resolved. But this could have been solved if they just listened to me or took the time to investigate. Apart from this I had issue with my battery. They never checked the water levels but my clutch is still fine😛 You give them the car to service hoping they will check and analyse if the cars are their own but I guess They just stop caring after the car is delivered. It's been like this for ages India. Anybody who asks me , "should I buy a tata car". I would say never.🫂
@@NotGivinMilkshakes Man, I had this exact issue in AC circuit of my Altroz. Seems like this may also be normal for Tata. But since my gearbox decided to commit hara-kiri, I was less bothered with the luxury like an AC! 😂
The thing I feel about the conversation of these two is it feels like both really doing what they love and talking about it and other journalists are just in another rat race of content and following the market only … thankful to both of u for these sensible conversations
As far as the quality levels are concerned, I agree with Karthik. A friend of mine had recently bought a Harrier, the facelifted version with fancy variant names. It had all the bells and whistles except for ADAS. He took us on a short ride and all of us were really impressed with the car. The size, the length , the quality of materials used etc etc. But the electronic niggles… oh man! While he was making a turn, the camera feed came up in the direction of the turn and the feed was literally frozen after a few seconds. A car went by and it didn’t register on the screen. Now since my friend was watching the road during the turn instead of the screen, so he didn’t notice it but I did. I just didn’t have the heart to tell him this because it was a brand new car and he was really beaming with happiness but it really burst my bubble of how awesome cars manufactured by Tata are. If I am spending that level of money especially for these features, I want those features to work reliably well especially something like a camera feed. Else I might as well pay Hyundai for their Creta. It maybe cheaper but they are offering an experience that just works.
@@PratikPishwe New feature loaded cars are like TV remote control with 50+ buttons that offer features that many barely are even aware of...leave alone use. The less digital bs.....more peace of mind....at least that's my view. Have owned a Fiat and a Chevy UVA in the past and they had the bare minimum of features compared to the frankly ridiculous features in current cars. I wish these car makers actually made cars to order and added JUST the features that the customer wants.... instead of forcing him to purchase the whole package.
Responsible journalists and tata fanbase has always supported tatas products but i don't think tata has done justice to all these efforts tata products are not comparable with global brands there are a lot of issues and the biggest reason for tatas ignorence is tata group's size itself in 90s mahindra knew that if they don't invest in engine technologies and if they don't improve their quality then they won't servive and then mahindra engines and there platforms improved a lot i am not saying that mahindra has no issues but what I am trying to say is even if tata motors starts to struggle tata group is always there to save them they never feel that they need to improve there engine quality and reliability and they never feel that there products quality and service should be world class I think tata's last few launches are example of what I am trying to say at one end you have mahindra I mean they have literally changed and improved the same platform with every single new launch the design and packaging is also different and improved and on the other hand you have curvv with nexon interiors harrier safari family look exteriors and less space then citroen basalt I mean come on yaar people have waited for this car for almost two years. I feel so bad for tata fanbase 😔
That's true for many Tata businesses. They are bankrolled by cash with Tata Sons or TCS. Tata has improved a lot, earlier I wont even consider now atleast I look for their car reviews. But "Dilli abhi door hai" contrary to what their fanbase thinks.
Hey Shumi and Karthik, I am a frequent viewer of your videos but never comment on them. However, I have to share this incident with you and appreciate your work. I have been down with Dengue fever for the last 4 days, dealing with constant headaches, eye pain, and being bedridden due to weakness. Not being able to sleep properly made me frustrated, anxious, and bored. Last night, instead of watching any TV series or movie, I watched your video, and it helped me calm down and fall asleep. Thanks for your informative and therapeutic videos. 👍🏽
Dude, the stories you shared are exactly why I'm not even thinking about Tata cars right now. And that Curvv doesn't have the one thing Tata cars are known for, a comfortable back seat. The backseat in that thing is terrible. If I wanted an EV, I'd rather wait a few more years. And if I wanted an ICE, I'd be looking at Kia or Hyundai.
MG Windsor EV is coming in next 2 weeks, it should have far better rear seat, range may not be much different from curvv, being a Honda Jazz-esque vehicle
@@motorinc absolutely. Every week I hear some big news from China or Tesla on their battery/charging tech/efficiency breakthroughs... The technology keeps advancing at a much higher pace than today's ICE tech. For EV buyers, it's like deciding to buy a smartphone in 2010-2015. U buy one and then feel outdated after a year
@@commieTerminatorindia does too they did one this week but when it comes to India people just shut their years and ofcourse there is no PR for any research we does(we know Indian media loves celebrity gossips more)

Entire TATA could feel shumi’s aura for the exponential number variants, that’s why this time they were scared, and fortunately the variants are countable now.
Just watched your take on TATA Curvv EV on TH-cam. I’m no car enthusiast, but I really appreciate your candor; it really helps people like me to understand how a car should be judged before purchase. Can you please help me choose between BYD ATTO 3 (Dynamic) vs MG ZS EV (Exclusive Plus DT).
I would also like to share our experiences with Tata. It was all good for couple of services. I even reported it as great service in one of my earlier comments. But then that excitement and luck just disconnected. 1. Our Altroz Diesel had an unfortunate incident where it hit an overloaded idiot driven Tata Ace and as a result had it's Radiator broken and leaking coolant. Towed it to the service. Insurance claimed. Survey done. All approved. But repair work wasn't started for 7 whole days. Reason? The service advisor was on an official trip to Tata head quarters. The car was untouched until we escalated to higher authorities. 2. Only 15kKms and 1.5 years. The Steering / tie rod making weird noises. And when shown in the service, though they didn't deny it saying it is Normal, they just asked my brother to keep driving until it gets worse. I mean, why? It was already making enough in terms of noise levels. Luckily, so far, we did not get a "This is Normal" response for anything that we reported.
I believe that "Tuck" Sound comes after speed breaker is from HRS( Hydraulic rebound stopper). That sound is natural when you going on high speeds and nothing to worry 🙏
As an Ex-Tata owner, I can totally relate to the stories by the people you met. I got an Altroz Diesel in 2020 and it broke down (clutch issue) after 12k kms. Got it towed to the service centre, had to wait for almost 8 days to even get a call from them. I remember going to the service centre and standing there to ensure they do the work and handover the car that entire day. After that, I did a road trip and came back (5k kms), went for a basic wheel alignment check as I felt the car was pulling to the left. They checked and showed me oil leakage from the gearbox. Had to drop at the service centre again to get that fixed. Overall experience and attitude was like Sumo/Indica days. That same issue came back again and was the final nail in the coffin. Got it fixed, spoke to service centre to understand that the previous service centre missed changing the oil which caused this issue. I complained to Tata SM team, spoke to them but no use as I had to pay half the money even though the car was under warranty till the end of the year. I sold the car a couple of months ago (38k driven, 3.6 years) and I’ve never been more happier driving a 2016 Grand I10 automatic (which we bought as a second car for my wife). I would never buy another Indian brand anytime soon (only exception is Maruti Suzuki) P.S. - I enjoyed the car when it stayed out of the service centre. I even did an extremely long road trip. Hyderabad - New Delhi - Udaipur - Hyderabad. Car performance is very good, but the DPF issues were a pain. On top of that, what I realised is the service centre experience in most places is bad.
@@motorinc Definitely! I loved the car and any car can breakdown. All that matters is how the service centre approaches the work and how are they working to ensure issues are properly fixed and customers are going back happy. If the experience is like this when the car is under warranty, I can’t imagine what would’ve happened post the warranty ended. I have a clarity now after hearing what Karthik said about the conversations he had with the leadership team. If the attitude is like that at the leadership level, no wonder it’s the same way at the service centres. They need to really address these issues and I’ve been telling my friends and family to proceed with caution if they’re planning for a Tata car.
@@kiran75424 Suzuki is Japanese. The cars they sell are Maruti Suzuki (joint venture) since Maruti still has around 40% stake it can be considered Indian to an extent.
The Punch.ev has cup holders and a wireless charger as well. I believe the Curvv will get the cup holders only when the Nexon does with all the shared components.
Excellent review, completely agree with Tatas new norm. A cousins Tiago was in service center for 3 months for a reason unknown till higher ups were contacted. The car used to stall intermittently. They changed entire wiring, music system and timing belt to solve this issue. Ultimately it was an ECU issue.
😂😂 He could barely be calm at the end of the video here... if he went through all that 1st hand, probably either he would come back halfway or they would hear a mouthful... 😂 (and rightfully so, in either case)

Things I noticed about the Tata Curvv while I was in the showroom: 1. The rear end looks awesome and doesn't match with the front end. The profile is okay-ish. 2. There was no thigh support on the back seats, it made me remember Maruti Omni. 3. Rear visibility is garbage. 4. Interior is not good for the Creta category. 5. I noticed that the driving position is a bit awkward and the view out was similar to a Altroz.
Damm I was hoping that Kartikeya would say its the best mid range EV like punch ev intro. I visited the showroom twice but couldn't get hands on to test drive vehicle. I was hoping that it would have a sporty suspension and better steering feel because they recently launch altroz racer which is prety much sorted on ride and handling aspect.
@@motorinc Hola! Yes, I am looking for a secondary car for a family of 3 for mostly city usages and occasional highway usages. My monthly fuel expense is around 10000INR~1200KM. I would prefer an EV considering a better drive experience of Torqi motor and AT gearbox inn CITY usage along with free office charging. Punch EV is looking good to me but my wife dont want a very common car on road. I have driven jeep compass and currently having EcoSport at home and I enjoy driving them so much that I want my next car to have a decent steering/suspension for fun to drive quotient. I have virtus 1.5 dsg as an option for petrol but the only worry is dsg reliability for Bangalore stop and go traffic because I expect my wife to use auto hold feature which people wont recomend using on signals. For EV, i was having high hopes for curve born ev but it turn out to be nexon with bigger boot. I will give it a test drive anyway. but the dilemma is listen to mind and choose ev and save cost on fuel/maintenance(assiming my next primary car going to be a little premium segment german so maintenance will be significantly high) or just listen to heart and get the virtus/slavia 1.5? Sorry for the long comment
As a person who is crawling towards upgrading my first second hand car very soon despite being a 2 wheeler person, which is the reason I am more interested in car firsts by you guys(along with its Motorinc I will watch everything they bring be it a review of a bicycle), I think the service and attitude of everyone involved in a company to make our lives better with their products, I really feel worried about tata motors service. It reminds me the service experience with TVS for my 2017 Jupiter. The service experience goes along way in my so far experience with 3 brands I have owned. Top would be the KTM service, followed by a Honda(car) and the worst would be the TVS till now. It can make your experience hell lot better even if your product you bought is not a top of the line premium. Rightly said, its OK is not the way ahead!!! On second note, Shumi you did really well this time in terms of a TATA review😂😂
Regarding the service, may be you should visit one in Southern part of India and see why we don't complain about service at all. None of the service issues you mentioned come up in South India so, service response is all about the teams working there. Please don't blame the company for the service issues. Thanks!
1:00:23 "small issues like people being locked in the car" I'm imagining the service scenario like - "Oh you were locked inside? Its normal here." "Oh you had panic attack and a heatstroke? Its normal here." "Oh you were taken to a hospital? Call our tata helpline for 24/7 Roadside towing assistance." . To put this into context we have a Honda City and these kind of things would be unheard of in the Honda community.. I unfortunately crashed that car for the first time in 8 years (2015 model) of owning it.. Struck a Electricity Concrete post at 50 kmph and Caved in the hood, pretty messed up.. then drove that car another 30 kms home with the radiator tied by a rope and the AC not working, it drove like before the crash.. Now its like it never crashed.. Absurd levels of perfection from the Japanese.. A true motor vehicle Enthusiast will know for sure that Tata isn't in the contest..
Faced a similar issue with my Tiago EV like what your friend had faced. Got a small dent at the back of the car and they had kept the car for 35 days where the work has been done on the last 3 days only and for the rest of the days it was there lying in the sun and rain and not even in a garage. And after asking them why these many days they say this is normal here and they say it takes these many days which is not at all normal. This was the worst service i had faced with any other car company. Never gonna recommend Tata cars to friends having these kind of service. And they are pretty much cool saying this normal which is not at all acceptable. BTW always loved your conversations as they are too good. Thanks for being very honest guys.
@@motorinc whats wrong with the 3XO? The only two things I can think of are - its not gradual/smooth when the turbo comes on and relatively smaller boot.. but most people will get used to them.
Basalt looks much more aesthetically proportional than this hatchback on steroids. That small wheelbase just looks weird. And my dad owned Hexa, let down by the service. Beautiful car ruined by the brand. Now frequent EGR issues. I wish he went for the Innova back then.. he tried giving a chance to the local brand. A lot of people who will own tata vehicles, won't take the next vehicle from TATA for sure. Deshbhakti and safety muscle flexing will only work to a certain point.. thanks for calling them out.
These discussion videos are amazing. LOVE THESE! So informative and so well crafted to discuss matters that matter and not just spray half-cooked information within 10 minutes in the name of a review.
Shumi n Karthikeya watched completely. Your main detraction re. Small rear seat does not take into account the designers statement that the Curvv is a Coupe. The rear seat is just for unexpected guests.😂
I have the 2018 Nexon automatic and I got most of the issues quoted in the video. The clutch plates had to be changed at 40k kms. All four aircon vent handles broke in the matter of a week's time around 60k kms. The classic response I got from Tata : "This is normal, we're surprised you pulled off more kms than other customers." Hoping against hope that there's progress from top-down. Do we have more firsts/views lined up as we're eager to hear your thoughts on other launches in the recent weeks? Great motorinc first again!
But shumi, i disagree that the bmw was switched off for power saving. It's known to us that brakes work with lower brake power when we switch off engine. It's not at all recommended even if the road ahead is slope.
I'm using ADAS Level 2 for a few months now. Never switched it off, be it in traffic, highway, or an expressway. I agree it breaks a little harder than a normal person would, but then, if you are attentive enough and press the accelerator pedal, it sorts things out. One of the best uses of ADAS, in my opinion, is its working in conjunction with SCC. Now wherever I go on a trip with my family in a convoy. I just engage the SCC and sit back. Other than keeping your hands on the steering wheel every now & and then, it requires minimum human intervention. About the lane keep assisting system. I works well on the straight roads and small curves but please do not rely on ghat section or sharp turns. Drivers should realize, these features are there to make your life easier while driving and not to treat it as the fully autonomous.
The "Normal for TATA" is true. I own a Altroz i-Turbo. After experiencing riding in it, my friend was considering buying one. I told him "I knew what I was getting into when I got this. I know you a well, and you wont be able to handle the issues that will crop up". And based on my advise he took a Baleno. In my list of issues with the car, the newest addition: My 3 year old Altroz started having foggy windshield when ever I turn on AC due to faulty windshield defogger. The defogger flap does not close anymore and with AC turned on inside (Kerala high heat and high humidity) the outside of windshield bottom area will start to fog up and I have to turn on wipers periodically to clear it. I dont want to waste another 3 weeks with TATA service from my previous unresolved issues, So for now, I just roll down windows and endure then heat when driving alone.
Guys why don't you make a video of your test rides I think it would be a great addition, it's just more content coming out of every project. It would give you the opportunity to have initial impressions 😊
There was some sort of mic problem, maybe it was placed wrong from shumi's end and i was hearing some crackling windy sound for some segment of the video so yeah just thought to remind you that. This yet another first was awesome to see different observations for the car and from the industry's perspective. Keep up the great work
I’ve recently sold my nexon which is less than 4 years old. The reasons; 1. Got bored wanted an off roader. 2. Got fed up with service 3. Got fed up with small electronic issues popping up constantly If points 2 & 3 were not there I would have used it for another few years and then thought about changing but with jimny discounts and the hassle of owning a Tata the choice was made for me. Anecdote: in the second free service someone dropped a tool on the bonnet and tried to turn it on me.
Not in context to the vid but I know there are many good English speakers in India and the people who use hinglish very well understand English. But I'm always amazed by how professional you too are and the way y'all speak deep English. Not forgetting the comments from your audience are the same. 😳.

Well all I remember while seeing this is that I had met Kartik in Verna-Goa. Both of us were looking at the TATA CURVV being unloaded from the carrier and brought to the service centre. It was great to meet you Kartik and share some automotive thoughts.
Sharing my "Normal" experience with the Tata 1. Bought the Nexon 2017, after test driving the Brezza and WR-V and the Nexon was an easy pick over these. Bought the top variant and used it for 5 years. During my time with the car, once the coolant sensor failed, which I got fixed after visiting the service center twice since the first time they just reset the error and called it "fixed". During the 5th year, the power steering started to have some issues. It got almost jammed if you turned the steering extremely left/right. Upon consulting the service center, they said you have to get the motor replaced because as per them "this is normal after 5 years" even though the car was driven for about 40k Kms. After some temporary fix, we decided to sell the car and guess what we bought next? 2. Nexon 2022 model, because my dad loved the comfort and space of the Nexon. It's been 2 years now and I'm not at all happy with the overall experience. After the car gets serviced, multiple times the door open warning gets triggered even though the doors are closed. The service center guy was like "this is normal because water gets inside which causes the sensor to give faulty reading" once it dries out (usually a day or two), it will be fine. The next thing, the steering mounted controls. The volume buttons work as track seek buttons randomly, and sometimes the cruise control button has to be multiple times in order for the cruise control to engage. After all these incidents, I'm sure that I'm not going to buy a Tata car again. My friend asked me if he should buy the new Nexon and I told him not to because of how my experience has turned out to be.
50:41 omgg the question about the cup holders and the way the executive answered clearly shows the culture within the company around Design. I am so glad you promoted the question
52:13 I am so glad you mentioned the Tata group, because Air India today feels a lot like this, and they will continue to get into this rabbit hole with the airline as well.
By the way. Kartikeya's shirt reads "伝統屏風" which means "traditional folding screen" Also, Shumi forgot to mention that they fixed the screen alignment in the quick summary :D But bringing this battery to other vehicles would make life extremely simple for EV boys
6:54 When we went to check out Nexon and striking it out from our list was because the backseat space didn't felt big enough upgrading from a freestyle... The EV nexon felt even with lesser back seat space compared to the ICE.. And Curvv not having enough backseat space is bummer.. I felt this would really sit between nexon and harrier in size and not just boot
If possible, please do a video on dashcams, e.g., whether one should get front + rear, what specs one should look at (HDR, Starvis 2, number plate readability, GPS, etc.), which brands currently available in India are good.
Couple of years back, I was going to buy a car and was seriously considering a TATA. The only reason that I didn’t was that I figured that being a very fussy customer, what I wanted was “fuss free ownership”. And what Tata wanted was “fuss free owners”. This was never going to work. I still admire some of their work. But for me … it’s perhaps best done from an arm’s distance :)
Just like some printed books which have a lower price India, Bhutan, Nepal edition, they should have similar options in cars, no TFT, no ADAS, no sunroof, etc. The lower priced cars would sell like hot cakes!!!
We have Nexon,we went to show room to test drive curvv. Surprisingly we can't spot much difference between Nexon and curvv. Featurewise Adas and ambience is above Nexon
13:32 . This is bang on. we have a nexon first gen in our house and this is exactly how it sounds and it is annoying, Tata have reduced the volume, earlier it was loud. There is another annoying sound for seat belt reminder too. I think we are lucky having nexon with very less niggle. 2 things break a lot in our car 1) AC vent inside case 2) Volume and select Rotator (Gen 2 nexon dont have it ) Except to these 2 we didn't see any issues.
Please start doing some interview of company executives. Especially from Honda, VW, Skoda, Jeep. We always loved their cars. But, they never adapted to indisn market. Instead, they hv always tried to think their company values are more important than what customers really want. Why would any company take decisions based on their values than thinking about customers who actually buy their products. I was just waiting for this one since Curvv (Nexon Sportback) was launched! Amazing conversation you guys! I’m sure this will help a lot to someone who was waiting for this car, or maybe it’s ICE variant to launch. I completely agree with Shumi, when he said, ‘Stop recommending Tata cars!’ I own a 2023 Nexon petrol AMT and I’ll never recommend Tata to anyone, or will buy a Tata product ever again. The problem is not that the service is bad, or there are failures with some part. The problem is when you tell them this, they always say it’s a known problem with this car, part and it’s normal! Are you kidding me!?! I wrote a 4 page letter to Tata motors and sent it to everyone including their regional heads. What do you think their response was? In closing I’ll just say this, Shumi, don’t hold back. They deserve it.
The very first review I watched, perhaps Faisal’s or Autocar, lamented on the backseat and I had to quickly scratch it off my list given my needs. Thanks for the detailed discussion on the car. Really appreciated it. I have owned a Manza around 2011-15 and I completely understand the quality hit or miss discussion you had.
Thanks for your excellent video. I almost decided to book Curvv 55, but after seen your video I am rethinking mainly for quality and service issues. If someone in this group from Chennai, please suggest me a good TATA dealer and service workshop in Chennai .
I Love Tata Motors and I have owned the Tata Nano and the 1st gen Tiago. The products are amazing. Very robust which instills a sense of safety on our roads. However no matter how good your product is, if your aftersales network is crap it becomes a hard decision to buy another car from the Tata family. Issues with products. 1. The body panels show signs of rust 2. Fit and Finish is not up to the mark 3. Way to overengineered parts. For example if you need to change the headlight on tiago you need to dislodge the bumper as well 4. The quality of plastics. Overtime they get brittle especially the AC vents 5. Not so refined Engine 6. Parts fail very often and need repairs or replacement Service Center Issues (South Mumbai) 1. The service center feels like a government office. They give you an appointment for service at 9:00 am but the staff comes at 10:00 am 2. They are over crowded with too many vehicles 3. Advisors are dismissal of your problems 4. Even a simple job such as a break fluid change may require you to leave your vehivle for 1-2 days 5. Equipment is out dated at the Service Center to deal with the influx of new models and cater to the rising number of customers due to a boom in sales of cars. 6. Try and make you spend more than you should. Exmaple. The AC compressor and cooling coil was spoilt. Their estimate was about 40,000 rupees. I fixed it for under 10k. Recently wanted to change the clutch as its been 8 years since i have the car and was provided an estimate of 18,000 rupees. I bought the genuine clutch from authorized dealer for under 5,000 and will fix this at a local mechanic.
"Normal for Tata" section cant get enough of it - the battery draining faster than it should , car refusing to accelerate in summers , earthing issues among many which would not be addressed by service centers. Whenever i complained about it they would simply reply by saying "koi issue nhi h sir ek baar hogya hoga" or "humari testing mai nhi aaya sir kuch"
It will be so sad to see Tata Motors going to the crapper. The public gave them a chance and they did quite well but now they are just toying with people’s emotions and trust. I hope they are taking their QA QC issues seriously or else they are on their way to becoming a very good case study for management students on ‘importance of QA QC and how it’s negligence can destroy a organisation ‘

You guys take a lot of time to make each other understand things.

I think Tata was so scared of Shumi that they controlled their urge to have 100 different variations.
😁
LOL!😂😂😂
P e r s o n a s
That’s not true actually, i checked the petrol and diesel versions and they have multiple variants so they haven’t learnt from their mistake…oh Tata
😂😂😂
Question is why would they not fix it when manufacturing when they have already collated these repetitive issues
Don't get me wrong I just did 1100 kms of long drive couple of days back and I was like this car is simply amazing at so many things, if and this is a big 'IF', they can sort this issues out they can really push 7/10 experience to 9/10.
One final thing where you hit nail on its head, more then your experience with the car in itself your experience with the brand TATA is nose diving with these sort of quality and service center issues.
Thanks for sharing Samarth. We hope that your issues will be solved thoroughly.
I'm swore never to touch a Tata car again after that.
🙏🏾
Sorry, but unsurprised.
Govt. of Tata.
Sorry to hear about your Altroz. So much to like about it, but let down by reliability.
My person Nexon xz+ developed engine oil leak ( Very bad) in 45k kms only. Service center said sir 6 years old car, it happens in Kia also
now barrage of comments from Tata stans
I informed them about this , I told them for fact that this is the problem but no one bothered for a 1.5 years
After involving tata motor , though my issue is resolved. But this could have been solved if they just listened to me or took the time to investigate.
Apart from this I had issue with my battery. They never checked the water levels but my clutch is still fine😛
You give them the car to service hoping they will check and analyse if the cars are their own but I guess They just stop caring after the car is delivered.

That’s barely a problem in the overall scheme of things. Lucky him. And happy for him too! ❤️ The Harrier as a package is sweet - niggles aside.

The best time to buy an EV? That’s a next year. And say the same thing to yourself for the next few years. 😁
MG Windsor EV is coming in next 2 weeks, it should have far better rear seat, range may not be much different from curvv, being a Honda Jazz-esque vehicle

Atto3 is better if you live in a city which has BYD dealer else go for ZS pure due to service coverage
Hey Abhishek, we’d pick Atto3 - core tech is one of the best, if not the best, in the world. 👍🏽
Thanks for updating us! We wish you better experiences.
I believe that "Tuck" Sound comes after speed breaker is from HRS( Hydraulic rebound stopper). That sound is natural when you going on high speeds and nothing to worry 🙏
Thanks for the advice!
someone finally spoke about this logo tilted in most tata cars, been noticing it in more tata and surprised to see no one mentioned this in media
😁
I would never buy another Indian brand anytime soon (only exception is Maruti Suzuki)
Thanks for sharing man! Glad you are relieved now
Thanks for sharing @manisharutla! Just curious, had the service experience been better, would you have kept the Altroz despite its issues?

I will give it a test drive anyway. but the dilemma is listen to mind and choose ev and save cost on fuel/maintenance(assiming my next primary car going to be a little premium segment german so maintenance will be significantly high) or just listen to heart and get the virtus/slavia 1.5? As a person who is crawling towards upgrading my first second hand car very soon despite being a 2 wheeler person, which is the reason I am more interested in car firsts by you guys(along with its Motorinc I will watch everything they bring be it a review of a bicycle), I think the service and attitude of everyone involved in a company to make our lives better with their products, I really feel worried about tata motors service. And they are pretty much cool saying this normal which is not at all acceptable. BTW always loved your conversations as they are too good. Thanks for being very honest guys.
Thanks for keeping us posted VM!
I was watching the Nexon EV podcast and then I got the notification about the Curvv EV podcast 😉😎❤️ what a coincidence
😃
@@motorinc 😎❤️
'snuck' is a word, yes.
Do you guys recommend 3XO as a better alternative to Curvv?
Check out the Sonet. And, the Basalt. 👍🏽
Thank you for sharing your experience @pratikindia27!
Karthikeya's City drive mode selected had me rolling in the floor
😅
Veryvery insightful discussion
Everytime the intro music hits its a damn vibe!
☺️
These discussion videos are amazing. LOVE THESE! So informative and so well crafted to discuss matters that matter and not just spray half-cooked information within 10 minutes in the name of a review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Total design failure
Shumi n Karthikeya watched completely. Your main detraction re. Small rear seat does not take into account the designers statement that the Curvv is a Coupe. The rear seat is just for unexpected guests.😂
I wouldn't mind the notifications for drive modes, if it was told by Karthik.
Replacing one with another! 🤣🙅♂️
I have the 2018 Nexon automatic and I got most of the issues quoted in the video.
The clutch plates had to be changed at 40k kms. All four aircon vent handles broke in the matter of a week's time around 60k kms.
The classic response I got from Tata : "This is normal, we're surprised you pulled off more kms than other customers."
Hoping against hope that there's progress from top-down.
Do we have more firsts/views lined up as we're eager to hear your thoughts on other launches in the recent weeks? Great motorinc first again!
Thanks for sharing your experience Saketh! We hope things change as well.
But shumi, i disagree that the bmw was switched off for power saving. It's known to us that brakes work with lower brake power when we switch off engine. It's not at all recommended even if the road ahead is slope.
Generally, on motorcycles, you have full manual brakes irrespective of the engine's operation
Can I have Thar 3 door with same features like Thar ROXX? When I expect the update on 3 door, or shall I buy and do aftermarket? Please confirm
Passive aggressive Shumi hits harder than sarcastic Shumi or silly word play Shumi hahaha!
Brutal no matter what!
Great and detailed overview. I am confused between Curvv and Elevate. Which one is better for long term personnel use. Please suggest.
The safe pick is the Elevate. 👍🏽
43:49 ah, the classic getting locked inside a Tata and escaping via the window. Brings back memories!
You’ve been there too?!
@@motorinc Oh yeah. Kartikeya was there too!
SCC 👍🏽! Drive safe. You clearly are a responsible and careful driver. That is not the norm. So we exercise caution in recommending these features.
Schumi breaking the fourth wall is the most accurate review in any of your videos. Words seen to have become a lesser medium.
Nails it!
Thanks Arjun for sharing that with us.
Guys why don't you make a video of your test rides I think it would be a great addition, it's just more content coming out of every project. It would give you the opportunity to have initial impressions 😊
Thanks for the recommendation TS.
There was some sort of mic problem, maybe it was placed wrong from shumi's end and i was hearing some crackling windy sound for some segment of the video so yeah just thought to remind you that.
This yet another first was awesome to see different observations for the car and from the industry's perspective.
Keep up the great work
Thanks for the feedback Chirag!
From tata side -"Is sumi really not critical, but he's smiling"
😁
Tata Sumi Gold
I’ve recently sold my nexon which is less than 4 years old. The reasons;
1. Got bored wanted an off roader.
2. Got fed up with service
3. Got fed up with small electronic issues popping up constantly
If points 2 & 3 were not there I would have used it for another few years and then thought about changing but with jimny discounts and the hassle of owning a Tata the choice was made for me.
Anecdote: in the second free service someone dropped a tool on the bonnet and tried to turn it on me.
Got the Jimmy? Which colour? And transmission? Tell us more! 😁
@@motorinc I’m getting Alpha Auto in Nexa Blue colour.
Thank you for sharing @theindianskeptic! Congratulations! We wish you a fun time!
Was waiting for this episode since decade long 🙆🙆.
Why didn’t you tell us earlier! 😆
Not in context to the vid but I know there are many good English speakers in India and the people who use hinglish very well understand English. But I'm always amazed by how professional you too are and the way y'all speak deep English. Not forgetting the comments from your audience are the same. 😳.
Thanks MA!
Would love Thar Roxx first impressions❤❤
Please stay tuned. Haven’t driven the car yet.
@@motorinc not even driven yet... 🙆♂️🙆♂️
I thought it would have been driven by now and that we would get the M-First in about 2-3 weeks and I was struggling to convince myself to wait for that only... 😶😶🌫️ looks like it could be much longer...
Well all I remember while seeing this is that I had met Kartik in Verna-Goa. Both of us were looking at the TATA CURVV being unloaded from the carrier and brought to the service centre. It was great to meet you Kartik and share some automotive thoughts.
Snuck is a real word but in your case sneak was the right one. Conan went to Harvard! 😁
😁
Sharing my "Normal" experience with the Tata
😑 Sorry to hear that. All the best for the next.
Great video guys,
Quality is really a issue with tata, yesterday i saw the new safari & its right side tail light went off while moving
That’s normal.
50:41 omgg the question about the cup holders and the way the executive answered clearly shows the culture within the company around Design. I am so glad you promoted the question
It’s a pity.
43:54 had me chuckle 😂
😆
Maybe that curvv is little clingy 😂
“The first step in solving a problem is recognizing there is one” - Will Mcavoy
💯
What was that smile about at 16:21 Shumi? XD
52:13 I am so glad you mentioned the Tata group, because Air India today feels a lot like this, and they will continue to get into this rabbit hole with the airline as well.
Tata cars are good to see but are headaches to own….hence 👋👋👋👋👋
By the way. Kartikeya's shirt reads "伝統屏風" which means "traditional folding screen"
Also, Shumi forgot to mention that they fixed the screen alignment in the quick summary :D
But bringing this battery to other vehicles would make life extremely simple for EV boys
They have to figure out the floorboard situation for sure before that...
@@motorinc the back seat can take a back seat to solve range anxiety :P
6:54 When we went to check out Nexon and striking it out from our list was because the backseat space didn't felt big enough upgrading from a freestyle... The EV nexon felt even with lesser back seat space compared to the ICE.. And Curvv not having enough backseat space is bummer.. I felt this would really sit between nexon and harrier in size and not just boot
Agreed… it’s like three steps down from the Nexon.
I get a smile from start of episode when Shumi says he won't be critical of TATA.
I'm planning to buy the long range one. Are they giving any discounts?
Let us know if you head to the showroom?
If possible, please do a video on dashcams, e.g., whether one should get front + rear, what specs one should look at (HDR, Starvis 2, number plate readability, GPS, etc.), which brands currently available in India are good.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Is the Citroen Basalt impressions video coming?
Great content as always!
Please stay tuned! And, thank you!
Thats clarity! Good for you.
Just like some printed books which have a lower price India, Bhutan, Nepal edition, they should have similar options in cars, no TFT, no ADAS, no sunroof, etc. The lower priced cars would sell like hot cakes!!!
That's a great idea @shantanugadgil but we don't think manufacturers will be THAT noble! 😅
We have Nexon,we went to show room to test drive curvv. Surprisingly we can't spot much difference between Nexon and curvv.
Featurewise Adas and ambience is above Nexon
Spot on!
I'm from Udaipur and I can see the different bits of my city all during the video ❤️
13:32 . This is bang on. we have a nexon first gen in our house and this is exactly how it sounds and it is annoying, Tata have reduced the volume, earlier it was loud.
There is another annoying sound for seat belt reminder too.
I think we are lucky having nexon with very less niggle.
2 things break a lot in our car
1) AC vent inside case
2) Volume and select Rotator (Gen 2 nexon dont have it )
Except to these 2 we didn't see any issues.
Awesome! Glad to hear that it is just those. 👍🏽 Appreciate you sharing your experience with all here.
Despite being a tata owner myself, I genuinely loved shumi's criticism and tata deserves that anyways..
Appreciate the understanding Rahul!
We need to ensure these top companies really understand customer requirements.
Thanks for the suggestion. Then don’t you think they should interview us? 😁
Very true
@@motorinctrue that😅
I was just waiting for this one since Curvv (Nexon Sportback) was launched!
Amazing conversation you guys! I’m sure this will help a lot to someone who was waiting for this car, or maybe it’s ICE variant to launch.
I completely agree with Shumi, when he said, ‘Stop recommending Tata cars!’
I own a 2023 Nexon petrol AMT and I’ll never recommend Tata to anyone, or will buy a Tata product ever again.
🙏🏾 Sorry to hear about your ordeal.
Creta has a wireless charger and cup holders
🤷♂️
The very first review I watched, perhaps Faisal’s or Autocar, lamented on the backseat and I had to quickly scratch it off my list given my needs. Thanks for the detailed discussion on the car. Really appreciated it.
I have owned a Manza around 2011-15 and I completely understand the quality hit or miss discussion you had.
Thanks K!
What’s your feedback on new styled door handles? Do you like them?
You have to get used to them. Will feel strange at first. But, they aren’t deal breakers.
Thanks for your excellent video.
I almost decided to book Curvv 55, but after seen your video I am rethinking mainly for quality and service issues.
If someone in this group from Chennai, please suggest me a good TATA dealer and service workshop in Chennai .
Keep us posted on what you pick next!
1. The body panels show signs of rust
2. Fit and Finish is not up to the mark
3. Way to overengineered parts. For example if you need to change the headlight on tiago you need to dislodge the bumper as well
4. The quality of plastics. Overtime they get brittle especially the AC vents
5. Not so refined Engine
6. Parts fail very often and need repairs or replacement
Service Center Issues (South Mumbai)
1. The service center feels like a government office. They give you an appointment for service at 9:00 am but the staff comes at 10:00 am
2. They are over crowded with too many vehicles
3. Advisors are dismissal of your problems
4. Even a simple job such as a break fluid change may require you to leave your vehivle for 1-2 days
😬😬
@@motorinc ive got the exter after considering the punch. Better after sales with hyundai
Thanks for letting us know. How is the Hyundai experience?
@@motorinc pleasant for now. Had a few niggles at the time of booking. The price was revised and we were not told about the hike in price.
Oh shucks. Sorry to hear that.
We hope so too.
