This is why by law, cigarettes now have to have self-extinguishing points on them, but further than that, smoking isn't allowed in public buildings now.
@@eleanorhogan8643 It used to be at the discretion of the business, and it used to be a very common trend, although by the 2000's, places either had separate areas or banned indoor smoking completely due to secondhand smoke fears and public health concerns regarding secondhand smoke, but I know that since 2006, smoking or permitting smoking in public buildings was made illegal in Scotland, and 2007 for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. I know this because I remember the date very well for England, it was on the 1st July 2007.
Looking at all these films and such makes me appreciate all the detail that went into the making of the original fireman sam. The guy who created the show (David Jones) was an ex London fire fighter and it shows because practically all the equipment seen in the show exists and has a real life counterpart.
now the interesting thing is, I saw little snippets from this episode in a children's video I used to love, "Awesome Fire Engines". I only found out in recent years it was from this show.

As long as I can remember smoking has never been allowed in public buildings, when was it allowed? And when did it get banned?
