God Riku is EASILY the BEST character in KH with Sora right behind him. Fitting. I honestly love the relationship between Sora and Riku. While Riku is a Master, and undoubtedly powerful, he and Sora both equals in how often one saves the other. Light and dark, back to back. They truly need each other to balance the other out. I can see why some view them as brothers, but honestly, with how Sora reacted to FINALLY seeing Riku again after what over a year of searching, compared to his reaction to seeing Kairi in Kingdom Hearts 2....I mean Soriku might as well be canon haha. You don't fall to your knees sobbing over someone who's "just a friend". lol

soriku always gonna have a special place in my heart thinking about those two always makes me emotional. Rikus arc especially is so close to my heart. Ive been burned too much by writers in the past to trust that its actually a possibility though. Like obviously i can dream but growing up gay and getting ur hopes crushed over and over really takes a toll on you unfortunately
This is what I really hate about most games in general when they write characters. They give a love interest with no love involved. We are to accept this dude and this gal love each other just because of their gender and they have feelings for each other because we're told so. But we're never shown it. Then throughout the games you have the guy off with his pals, growing closer through their conflict and creating stronger bonds with each other. The chemistry is there even if the studio never intend it so of course we're going to roll our eyes when he goes back to the girl when she's got as much personality as paper and we know nothing of how they work.
It's not just Kingdom Hearts either, a lot of games have this problem. I will not accept a love interest if you don't actually put love into it. SHOW the feelings. Make me actually BELIEVE they are in love, not just because.

Anyone else notice that Riku gives Sora a paopu fruit right at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 1 and jokes about "I know you want to try it"? But he doesn't add "with Kairi."
Did you also notice that the Gayblade (combined keyblade) has a PAOPU FRUIT charm?
Tbh I low-key headcanon that they actually did share a paopu when they were younger and didn't know what it meant, and eventually both forgot about it because to them it held no significance. It was just another fruit on the island they wanted to try, but when they got around to it, there was only one good one left, so they decided to split it between the two of them.
Also to contribute to the conversation, when Riku teases Sora in the manga, he gets really close to his face and Sora gets flustered, iirc.

Ummm... maybe. This isn't the 2000s anymore and Disney does have a few LGBTQ characters heck we have andi mack.
There isnt a problem revealing them to be gay just because there 5lb of subtext in KH2 alone. It honestly may because the series isnt suppose to be about romance, it almost always been about friendship so it not really needed to put that out.
Heck, it may even profitable to leave open ended, since people will wonder where their relationship will go.

What is this *ahem* document that you speak of? I feel like I’m out of the loop with stuff going on in the KH community
I believe it's the Sleeping Realm Theory document that came out sometime last year- a 200+ page document detailing several pieces of a theory surrounding how the KH3 we had gotten at the time was not the full story, and had a section dedicated to Kairi's role in the theory and how her relationship with Sora is "star crossed." Of course, SoKai shippers hate the theory because they think it's "Soriku Propaganda." But it's a really fascinating theory and a really good read.

not gonna lie, I'm pretty neutral on most ships in KH. I'm a multishipper by nature because I love exploring different character dynamics, and honestly I don't really have any ride-or-die KH ships. I see why people enjoy certain ships, I enjoy the ships myself, but I wouldn't say I have a favorite ship in general - which means I have no reason to get involved with ship wars, so hey, that's a plus.
if you were to ask me what my favorite ship at the moment is, though, I'd have to say Xemnas/Aqua. just because it's a criminally underexplored ship.

I still like Kairi x Sora x Riku but that's mostly from the manga which actually gives Kairi a personally and stuff to do in the games. And for the longest time, I actually did not like Riku for the longest time. I thought he was being way too possessive over Kairi and Sora. Mostly Kairi because he made it seems like he has to be one to save her not Sora. Then in KH2 I found him to be too much of a coward to face his friends. Like Sora was broke down into tears when he saw Riku again. It only after Dream, Drop, and Distance that I really started to like Riku.
