It still happens too frequently, someone covers a song and is attributed as writer. Glad there's folks on here who've reminded us it was written by the great Ian Tyson. Skeeter Davis was one of the first artists I got to see live, and not even particularly a country fan. She has an honest and stunning voice. My favorite of hers is "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know About Him." She sure can sing these heartbreak songs!
@@David-pd8li Hmm.I think you're confusing Ian's Summer Wages and Gordon's Summertime Dream.Ian Tyson wrote Summer Wages.Sylvia said it was her favorite song written by her husband.
Skeeter Davis songs always filled the air any time i entered into my aunty's sitting room. I was a about 10 years and that was over 30 years now. My aunty is late now and i do remember her anytime i play Skeeter's songs. It just tells me that i would be dead and gone someday too. My aunty is gone and so is Skeeter too.
I have been listening to Skeeter David since before I was ten years old and to me she is definitely one if not the best female country singers and beautiful, too. Her duets with Bobby Bare are matchless, unforgettable. Why is she not in the Country Hall of Fame?
I love not only her fantastic rendition of this great song, but also who she is as a person. She seems so good-natured, and innocent and child-like, I feel younger and freer just watching how joyful and sweet she is.
Thanks for the Skeeter Davis songs that takes me back to memory lane. I've been listening to her songs since 1966 when I was in form one in the high school. I'm now 70 years and I still listen to her songs.
A while back I had a chance to perform on a Grand Ole Opry Show in which one of the performers was Skeeter. I had a chance to meet her and enjoyed her singing very much.
Cheryl: You’re correct, thank you. Judy COLLINS had a hit with this song, but it’s Ian Tysons song. he wrote it and also sang it. Yesterday, December 29th Ian died at age 89. He will be missed, the Canadian cowboy singer from Alberta.
Songwriters rarely get the credit they deserve. Thanks for standing up for them. Without 'em, singers wouldn't even have a tune to hum. Ian Tyson was sure a good one, too.
Two wonderful entertainers, Skeeter Davis and Jim Ed Brown. Oh' if we only had some folks like this in country music today. Thanks for sharing this video.
Always a fan of Ian Tyson who wrote this great tune, love Templeton Thompson's version as well from a couple of yrs ago. But hey, nice to hear each artist do their own interpretation. That's what music is all about or it would soon get boring!
Two of my favorite female singers are from Kentucky. Skeeter Davis and Jackie DeShannon. I read that Skeeter got her name from her Grandfather. He said that when she was small, she had so much energy that she moved around like a mosquito.
She added a Southern touch to this song. Cannot believe she was born in 1931, even for back then..... (I would have thought somewhere in the 1940s maybe...)

There's a young man that I know
His age is 21
Comes from down in southern Colorado
Just out of the service
And he's looking for his fun
Someday soon, going with him
Someday soon
My parents can not stand him
'Cause he rides the rodeo
My father says that he will leave me crying
I would follow him right down
The toughest road I know
Someday soon, going with him
Someday soon
And when he comes to call
My pa' ain't got a good word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in the younger days
So blow, you old Blue Northern
Blow my love to me
He's driving in tonight
From California
He loves his damned old rodeo
As much as he loves me
Someday soon, going with him
Someday soon
Oh, when he comes to call
My pa' ain't got a word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in the younger days
Blow, you old Blue Northern
Blow my love to me
