  • Skeeter Davis sings 'I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know' live at the Pet Milk Grand Ole Opry in 1961. This song has been a #1 country hit for The Davis Sisters (Skeeter and Betty Jack Davis) in 1953 and was written by Cecil Allen Null.

    Her impact was world wide believe it or not. My parents grew up listening to her in AFRICA. I grew up on skeeter davis and I was born in the 90s...she was before loretta and before dolly she paved the way. it was so hard to be a female country singer in those days and she did it! she deserves the recognition

      I agree Skeeter really was a special lady, sadly everyone also forgets about Sara Carter also who paved the way for female country singers starting back in 1927!

      @@sebziez Get The Biggest Titty Implantations that they have. How can anyone ever forget. Sadly sex supercedes Talent. Marilyn Monroe, Dolly, Lil Kim, Trina, Nikki and last but not least Cardi Ughhh I mean Cardi B. And no disrespect to Susan Boyle but she was an amazing singer as well and gained a short lived amount of fame and recognition but do you hear of her nowadays? Sad sad world. Nice song by the way. I was really looking up a Kanye West line that says I’ve forgot more than you ever thought of verse and ran across this woman and decided to click first. Because I thought maybe this song was inspiration for that line maybe maybe not. I always overthink things lol. Rather overthink for everyone that don’t I say lol.

    This is the REAL COUNTRY MUSIC, not the garbage that is out now. Skeeter was one of the best

    • @phatgeezer1955
      @phatgeezer1955 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Interestingly enough, when Skeeter Davis was on the charts, people were saying the same thing, but they were talking about Skeeter, Pasty Cline and the other "Nashvile Sound" artists being the people putting out "garbage", and they were mourning the loss of "real country music" like Jimmy Rogers and Bob Wills, and in turn the people before them were complaining about how Bob Wills ruined hillbilly music by adding drums.
      So I think everyone has a nostalgic spot for the music of our teens and twenties and somehow after that, the newer stuff doesn't sound as good to us, probably because we were busy working and raising families and didn't have time to keep up with and enjoy the latest music the way we did when we were young and carefree.

    Skeeter was always country and at times was highly underrated because she was extremely talented. The sad thing is the Davis Sisters only did one song before Betty Jack Davis died. Skeeter carried on and she was always one of the very best. RIP to the pretty young woman of country.

      +David H I love Skeeter, but Betty Jack Davis had the richer voice. That's why Skeeter was always double-tracked in the studio, and took the high harmony on the original track.

    One thing I’ll add. , no matter the changes that’s called the Nashville Sound or the Outlaw Sound the songs were good and that’s the difference, if the songs aren’t good it doesn’t matter what you call it. You can’t tell me, Crazy by Patsy isn’t great. Well it’s the number one country song in history. Stand By Your Man by Tammy is another one. They were so good they were played on all charts, not just hillbilly. He Stopped Loving Her Today was number one in history, on country charts only. Bob Wills had Faded Love and San Antonio Rose that’s country and swing and Patsy had hits on both.
