Hands down the best version of this song by a mile. I'm a musician. I'm old. I believe I've heard every good song made. This song by this singer is among the best of them. What a crystal clear, beautiful voice.

This is by far the best version of this Great Song anywhere on the internet, Suzy absolutely nails it, what a perfect voice, the best I've ever heard. She owns this song!
Ian was attempting to become a pro rodeo rider when he suffered a serious injury and was told he'd have to give it up, or risk permanent disability if he suffered another such injury. While recuperating, he began playing guitar, singing, and writing songs. I'm guessing that Suzy's version would have peaked somewhere in the Top Ten or Top Five of the Billboard Country Singles chart, rather than at #12, if she'd been closer to the below-21 age the main female character obviously was, while waiting for her 21-year-old man to arrive and take her away from her parents' home, rather than the 36 or so years all country music fans knew her to be. And when he comes to call, father hasn't a word to say.
We just lost Ian. He used to say that this song helped repair the roof on his barn. The royalty cheques kept coming in. So many women recorded it. Suzy does a gorgeous job here.

I never understood why she didn't become an even bigger star. She's stunningly beautiful, with one of the best female voices Country music has ever heard.
I owned two of her albums, and she was a favorite. I couldn't hardly wait for her next album release. When it was finally released it was a dual vocal with Chet Atkins. Chet Atkins can't sing at all, he can hardly carry on a conversation, and his guitar playing is a pluck-pluck style that sounds irritating and boring. So I never bought the album, and Suzy Bogguss never again had a hit song after recording with Chet Atkins.
@@mikelawhorn1243 I bought the album. It's called Simpatico and there are some very good songs on it. My favorite is her version of the Johnny Cash song "I Still Miss Someone" which she also did live at The Grand Ole Opry and you can find it here on YT.

She was (still is) an angel. I saw her perform live on a USO tour at Clark Air Base in the Philippines in 1989. I even got to spend some time alone with her and Ricky Skaggs as they cleared US Customs (I was working at the Customs desk as a drug dog handler). She was so beautiful and so gracious....even signed a shirt for me. To a lonely young guy so far away from home, she was like a living angel.
I met her in person at Michael Martin Murphy's West Fest in Red River, New Mexico sometime in the early 90's. She was shopping for a leather jacket with fringe. She was very sweet and gracious. She said she was sorry she had to start one of her songs over again, that she was nervous without her band. I told her don't worry about it, that turned out to be the best song you did. What a great performer but an even better person.
I remember a fellow country music artist commenting " If you could hear an angel in heaven sing - their voice would sound like Allison Krause or Suzy Bogguss". Such a pure, distinct voice.
Most underrated singer ever. Suzy was blessed with a clear, dynamic voice with a velvety, metallic edge that cuts through big time live when she belts from the diaphragm.. Her voice is LOUD and clear and she'd likely be ok without a microphone in a pinch. She is a very good example of a country singer with a dramatic soprano voice along with perfect pitch. She never sings off key. The edge, vocal weight and operatic power make her unique. There are others who deserve a mention.. Patty Loveless is my girl along with Suzy. Patty is the ultimate female country singer for me. Her plaintive, high lonesome delivery and George Jones influenced inflections are perfection. Can't forget these girls either .. KT Oslin, Matraca Berg, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Kathy Mattea, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Pam Tillis. Tanya Tucker has one of the most unique and earthy, soulful voices ever.
Her voice is so crisp and angelic-so absolutely perfect. Nobody rocks this song like she did, does and will. An absolute perfection in range and sharpness. Would love to see her in person.

I watch and listen to this video several times every day and I never get tired of listening to her. I can't wait to see her perform live in Buffalo next month!
A more beautiful song, there is not. But I respectfully disagree. My mother played Judy Collins in our families Volkswagen vanagon. Maybe when she was happy, or sad or just in the mood. I never bothered to ask. But I sure love Judy's version best. Maybe that's what my mom wanted to share with me and my sister.
Such a classic story song that anyone can relate to. I like this version but my favorite is the original recording by Ian and Sylvia from their1964 album "Northern Journey.

I almost smiled at Bogguss' "Just out of the service" because this was at least 20 years when that phrase sent chills down a generation. "We KNOW what that means..." And now, 30 more years later, a couple of generations can only be curious.
@@edrosenthal7378 Judy Collins was one of the first notable artists to cover Someday Soon, but Ian Tyson wrote it, and he used the royalties he received from the Suzy Bogguss cover to build an arena for equine events on his Longview, Alberta ranch.

And sometimes everything comes together: song writer Ian Tyson, great band, the right setting and Suzy one of the greatest female singers of any genre of any period. Period!

One of the most beautiful and talented ladies of country music this song makes me want to travel back in time
She sends chills down my spine with this song! No one can touch her version. And she's easy on the eyes too!
Love this woman the most beautiful voice in country music
This IS Country Music!
I almost smiled at Bogguss' "Just out of the service" because this was at least 20 years when that phrase sent chills down a generation. "We KNOW what that means..." And now, 30 more years later, a couple of generations can only be curious.
Nobody has ever covered this Ian Tyson classic better than Suzy Bogguss!
Noah Count Judy Collins wrote it
@@edrosenthal7378 Judy Collins was one of the first notable artists to cover Someday Soon, but Ian Tyson wrote it, and he used the royalties he received from the Suzy Bogguss cover to build an arena for equine events on his Longview, Alberta ranch.
Lynn Anderson had a big hit with it back in the70's
I never knew Judy Collins had done this song in 1969. As great as Judy was and is no comparison. Someone else said Suzy owns it and no doubt about it. An awesome timeless song done by one of country music's greatest stars.
+Howard Diamond -- I am not going to play favorites here on the performances, since I like both. The song does showcase Ian Tyson's ability as a composer.
from the gifted hands of a great song writer Ian Tyson .. to the gifted voice of a very special talent .. Someday Soon has been recorded by many .. but there's only one that absolutely owns it! Suzy like no other.
Raised in Houston,...WOW, what a voice. Where's she been in my life,...or better,...'what rock was I hiding under' . Never heard of her until I saw her on 'Larry's Country Diner'. She is the quintessential voice of a traditional Texas country singer.
Yup, but she came from my home state of Illinois. The town of Aledo.
The best version of the great classic. One of best singers of true country music.
Hello 👋 There
What an incredible song! Just listen to her voice! Clear as can be ! I’ve always loved this song!! She owns this song straight up & down!! One of my favorites ❤
Tnak you, Suzy, for doing this Ian Tyson classic so perfectly!
My is severely Autistic ( Brody)and just loves you so much. First word he ever said was your name. I’m a very big fan as well. We come from the Great White North, Thunder Bay Canada 🇨🇦. ❤️
Chet once went on record saying he never met another singer that could hit a note as dead center as Suzy Boggus! What a compliment to have to live with!
This is literally the greatest country song written and performed.
It was a folk song by Judy Collins first
I did not know she did this song! Love her "Both sides now" What a great song. Well I performed and learned the Suzy Bogguss version. Been doing it for years. Check out some of my original music dianapaynemusic.com
In my opinion my opinion Suzy Bogguss had the most wonderful voice in country music history.
Seen her live at Hershey and I have been to many concerts but she was at the top of my list.Just the best what actually happened to good country music like this.
She's just a wonderful lady, with a terrific talent, and a great sense of humor. I've never had anything but a wonderful time during my interviews with her.
Suzy's voice just puts a spell on me...!!!
Her and Emlou Harris voices of Angels!!
And sometimes everything comes together: song writer Ian Tyson, great band, the right setting and Suzy one of the greatest female singers of any genre of any period. Period!
Love, love, love this song and Suzy does it BEST!!
Hello 👋 There
She really was something, such a beautiful voice God gave her. Thank you Suzy !!! Still listening!!!
The lady with the brightest smile in Nashville delivering the type of country song that once defined the music. Miss this kind of story-telling, emotional tune.
This song was waiting for Suzy. The longing, waiting, young love... She captures it perfectly. Classic, never grows old.
The clarity of her voice isnt matched to this day.............gotta love her.....
Judith Durham, Renee Fleming and a very few others have perfect pitch.
Allison Krauss
Chet Atkins said Suzy Bogguss had the most accurate vibrato he ever heard. I'm going with Chet.
I have adored Suzy for many years, she is truly blessed with a stunningly beautiful voice. Her entire being is lovely. Plus, I’m just crazy bout the hat!
Hello 👋 There
How are you doing today?
I love her song and voice.
I met her at the Village Pub in Jeffersonville Indiana. Awesome lady. I never got over having to leave early . Lol. We had one dance
Love this song and this lady has such a great voice and she is so beautiful too! Thank you.
Great steel guitar, a gifted player indeed,,,,,,,,,,,,,in Hawaii steel guitars embellish many great modern Hawaiian songs, his play with Suzy is truly world class!!
Was blessed to see Suzy perform in Granbury, Texas the year before Covid. Such a nice, personable person, as well as a superb performer. Still as lovely as ever.
This lady toured the uk so many times unlike so many other country singers, so in my opinion she is the best ever.
One of the best voices, she should have had more recognition
How are you today?
I remember this episode so very, very well---it was when I first fell in love with this gorgeous massively talented woman. I don't know what's happened to country music as of late but Suzy still shines so brightly in my eyes. Love ya Ms Bogguss!
This is a classic example of real Western music. I like country music, but western music is true to my roots. Ranching, rodeo, the Rockies, etc, etc.Thank you Ian for writing a great song and awesome job Suzy!
One of the best songs ever written by Ian Tyson.
Actually it was Sylvia, I think, but I’d have to check the credits.
Yes one of those innumerable best of Ol' Ian's
It’s a toss up between this and Four Strong Winds.
