After watching several videos on making that first scarf, I have to say as a new knitter (and old crocheter) that yours is the best! Reasons why I love it: you don't use a slip knot to start the long tail cast on, you provide great closeups and knit slowly, you focus on the knit stitch and don't throw in the purl stitch yet, and you make a very stylish scarf that teaches us how to change color (rather than using one color or self striping yarn). And your voice is sooo soothing! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for these beginner projects. I am a crocheter trying to learn to knit. This is the first time I have been able to actually understand how to knit. You are a fantastic teacher. I appreciate the links to the materials on your website too.
This is so pretty, thanks for making it look so easy. I'm a crocheter, I've tried knitting several times and I can never get the hang of it, so I gave up, but I might try it again thanks to you!
WOW, this is an excellent tutorial. I’m a intermediate crocheter cause I’ve been doing it just a little more than a year. I’ve been doing pretty good, but I said to myself that I would at least try knitting. Watching you make me feel that it is attainable. I’m definitely going to give it a go. I like that you used a chunky yarn. Thank you so much for sharing. Smart young lady. Your folks must be very proud of you. If not, I’ll be proud for them.
Aww thank you so much!! I really appreciate that and so glad you want to give knitting a try. I'm so glad I went back to knitting after giving up for a while. I'm here to help if you have any questions!
Im a crocheter, but I have all of my Mom's old knitting needles. I was very interested in your scarf. My daughters want scarves this year for Christmas I am eager to get the needles out. But usung the thicker yarn sounds great to me. It wont take as long, I hope. After I finish some crochet projects.
So, another youtuber suggested casting on with a 'backward loop cast on", which I found to be problematic because after a few stitches I'd have a long piece of yarn between the needles and then it would just hang there at the end. Using your method actually solved that problem. No more excess yarn between needles. Thank you! :D
Thanks Brittany, for this great video! I am loving my new (almost finished) scarf! Only difference is, I'm using 9.00 mm needles! I'm a knitting newby & feel encouraged! Thank you! ❤
I loved this video and is the only video that helped me because I’ve have looked ant tons of videos and they never show the moves so thank you for using your time and effort to show us how to knit a scarf
I've tried several times to learn knitting, and failed to catch on, though I crochet. Your clear tutorial has given me the confidence to get the hang of it! I appreciate your repetition while explaining+ showing the stitches and technique. Thank you for a simple project which I believe I can actually master! Bless you.
This form of casting helps me so much in my knitting. I’ve tried the other way (slipknot casting), and my yarn between the needles increase with each stitch. Beautiful scarf.
Cast on 16 stitches with thick yarn. ✅ Continue knitting for 11 inches. ✅ Switch color. ✅ Knit for 24 inches. ✅ Switch back to first color and knit for 11 inches. ✅ Bind off. ✅ With a large eyed needle, weave in yarn tails. ✅ But what size are the knitting needles? Thank you for your video.
I think the size needle depends on the yarn you are using. Whatever yarn you choose the package will tell you the size needle. I just purchased needles for using this type of yarn and they are a size 10.
I can knit! I just wish i could crochet can’t get the hang of it. I can create the first few stitches but when it comes to doing the other stitches i give up. Anyway your tutorial is so easy to follow for beginners and I prefer to knit with chunky wool rather than thin acrylic yarn as my stitches get too tight. 🧶
Beginner knitter here:) My last stitch on every row looks.. idk lumpy maybe? Would ending the row with a single purl stitch help? Thanks so much for this great video, you’ve inspired me:)
i find that after 2-3 times doing it, my yarn gets very tight & i can’t do it no more so i havd to redo if all over just for it to be the sand right it is... do u have any suggestions?
If the stitches are too tight on your needles to slide them on and off, you're probably pulling the yarn too tight as you work the stitches. Try loosening up your grip and working the stitches as relaxed as possible. 👍
This happened to me and it’s taken me a good hour or so to work out where I was going wrong, so sharing this in case it helps someone else. When you are inserting your needle in to the loops you cast on for your knit stitches make sure you are inserting it from front to back and also from the inside of the work at the front to the outside at the back (ie. not just at a diagonal from behind). That is probably very difficult to understand, so watch that part of the video carefully and make sure you are doing exactly the same.
@B.Hooked Crochet & Knitting thanx i will! i think i've got the basic technique down, now i just gotta keep knitting till my scarf is long enough and figure out how to end it! your videos are really helpful thank you!!
Hello and thanks for this video. I'm a crocheter but I'm going to tackle knitting. Can you please let me know what type of yarn you used for this project? Thank you!
Your tutorial is amazing and clear. I am a long time crocheter trying to learn to knit as well. Thanks so much for the great video. Looking forward to try knitting. I love those needles! So unique and pretty, where did you get them?
I can't quite understand the tutorial pass 2:13 ..... Knitting isn't common where I live and I never saw someone knit in real life, maybe that's the reason, but I don't understand what am I supposed to do with the yarn.
Mam, can u let me know can the scarf made in one color with 16 stitches? What no.needle according to Indian knittig needles to be used? Waiting for yr reply..?Neeraja
Thank you for this tutorial. I bought the same yarns that you used and started knitting the scarf. However, I used my existing knitting needles which are 6mm (US 10). I completed the first grey portion and pink portion completely. But it does not measure the same length that you mentioned in your video. It is way shorter. Why would that be? Do you think using different needles made it shorter? Kindly reply. Thank you!!
Yep that's exactly it. Using a smaller needle means your stitches are also smaller, so the same number of stitches will measure shorter in length and width. This is a tough lesson in gauge 🙃 Fortunately, scarves are much more forgiving than something like a sweater or hat. If you still have yarn left, keep knitting until you run out so it's long enough to wear. Another Idea would be to sew the two ends together and make a cowl. That way it's still functional! In future projects, it's best to work up a little swatch in the recommended yarn and needle size to measure your gauge. If you measure the same number of stitches and rows per inch, you can rest assured the size will turn out at you expect. If not, you'll have to go up or down in needle size until it matches. Give this video a watch if you want to learn a little more about it: th-cam.com/video/P-yKTFWKzjU/w-d-xo.html
I love this video, thank you Brittany! Scarf is almost done. I used recommended yarn, cast on 20 stitches w/ 9.00 mm needles. PS, really proud of myself as a new knitter!
Thank you! I was testing out Furls new knitting needles in this tutorial. They are beautiful and I really enjoyed the smoothness of the wood. The thing that bothered me about them just a bit was the metal pieces. The yarn didn't glide over them as smoothly as I would've liked.
So lost. When I finished the row of knit stitches my working yarn and free yarns were at separate enda of the needle and yours somehow stayed together on one end of the needle...
When you cast on, you use yarn from the tail and the ball of yarn so that's why you're noticing the tail get shorter and shorter. I started with a very long tail - more than I needed to cast on that number of stitches. That's why there's so much left :) Just try getting more slack and casting on again 👍

My yarn is quite thin though so I may need to do more than 16 loops at the top. Does that make the scarf wider?
Hello! How many skeins of the yarn did you need to complete this length of scarf? Thank you!
Hi! can you please make a video about how to make a blanket with this knitting? Pleaasee i need it 😊
Give this one a try 😊 th-cam.com/video/ntbCpSNLTOs/w-d-xo.html

May I know how many rolls for each of the 2 different types of yarn should I buy for this project? Appreciate your kind reply. Thank you!

The left handed version takes me to a granny square tutorial.
So sorry about that 🤦♀️ It's only available in right-handed version at the moment.

i can never get the hang on how to cast the yarn onto the second needle and always end up crying and not touching the yarn for another month or so
