I use the Evo 4 as well, had since launch it's been pretty good. I intially went with the focusrite solo, but had stablity problems with it at all buffer sizes. One problem I found with the Evo 4 is that it does not like being in a USB hub for those interested, when powered by a hub phantom power wont always turn on. It's also worth noting the Evo can be used standalone without the use of a computer whilst the focusrite scarletts have to be connected up before the preamps kick in. Paired with an Aston Stealth it's a great little setup. The stealth has a gain lifter built in just supply the 48v and you get +40dB of gain or so.
Planning to go ITX next rig I build and have always had a audio card in my computers. Going to have to look into this since I won't be able to have a audio card in my next build. Was initially planning to go DAC/AMP combo but will have to add the Evo 4 in to the consideration.
I have the same setup headphones, interface and pre-amp, with a rode podmic. It is important to note, the audient evo is awkward to mount if you're trying to get it off your desk surface. I wish they had moved everything from the top, to the front; or at least flush-mounted the big dial so you could actually see all the dial lights when sitting back.

The SM7b not only requires a ton of gain you'd also want to compress the crap out of the signal to get an even level. It's a bit funny seeing everyone buy it just because everyone else is buying it. It's one of the greatest vocal mics ever made, James Hetfield's and Michael Jackson's goto... you just need outboard gear to make it reach it's potential. The HD580Jubilee/Hd600/hd58X/HD6XX are a bit more neutral but I the 650s are still very neutral. The MassDrop versions are such a good value, I got mine before Sennheiser started enforcing MAP heavily for about $350 and the HD6XX are far cheaper than that. Nice setup.
For anyone that wants to upgrade their audio setup for cheaper, but get a similar quality sound. I highly recommend Audio-technica ATH-AD700x (open back with wide range and low power), Samson Go (quality mic for cheap), and Sennheiser GSX-1000 (vast improvement over onboard sound cards). Total retail price: $416 but you can find deals and get much cheaper. I paid $99 for ATH-AD700x current is $137, $199 for GSX-1000 current $229.
Also, not saying the GSX is the best, but it's pretty solid for the price range. Most of the negative reviews are mainly due to people not understanding that most games are made with stereo sound and not 7.1 audio or do not know how to take advantage of the HD audio.
I was looking at this a few months ago, then I forgot about it. now that I need an audio interface with a TRS output and still have decent headphone quality and potential for a xlr mic... I came back to it.

Julian Krause and Podcastage are 2 superb TH-camrs when it comes to audio interfaces and microphones. Julian Krause actually did a test of several different audio interfaces focusing simply on the headphone port and the Audient Evo 4 scored 3rd place so it's a good pick! You also have Z reviews if you need to get into headphones and speakers. Also wanna throw Booth Junkie in here because he also knows his stuff. So 4 fantastic TH-camrs for people who want to dive deeper into it. :)
Stumbled across this video, turned out to be basically just what I was looking for. This amp seems basically exactly what I'd need (want, rather...) and also for a reasonable price, I guess. Thanks for the video!
This may be a decent product for what it's intended to do which is a analog to digital input converter with headphone monitoring, but if you are primarily using this for headphone output, you should look elsewhere. For your 150 ohms HD58X the Evo 4 can only dump about 30-40 mW of power into them which not enough to wake up those drivers. Even worse is that the output impedance is 50 ohms which is crazy high for a headphone amp. According to the 1/8th rule (look it up) you would need headphones with an input impedance of 400 ohms to not encounter huge issues, reduced expected volume, and horrible driver damping leading to very loose bass, namely. If you mainly need a good headphone dac/amp with an mic input, look at the Schiit Fulla (over 3 times the power of the Evo 4 with an output impedance of 0.5 ohms) or the new Hel.
Great video, BUT the integrated headphone amp definitely can't drive the HD 650 or other HD 6.. series headphones comfortably. You would need an external headphone amp for that.
Thanks for calling attention to this! I have a very hard time getting people to spend a larger chunk of their budget on audio and monitors despite most experiences like movies and games to be 75% audiative and the display being what they view everything on.
Audio followed by display is the most important, assuming you have acceptable enough peripherals. Essentially you should upgrade your computer to keep up with your monitor. Still waiting on those next gen panels to fall in price so I can pick one up before the DDR5 upgrade cycle.

Man that one hell of a setup! 🔥 But boy that mic is overkill! I’m using the blue yeti, the HD58 and Soundblaster x6 I think it makes more sense as a gaming-only audio setup 👌🏻
Great content. Recently upgraded to dt 1990 pro's (driven by a topping d70 & thx 887) + blue yeti pro mic. Sound quality in games is night & day ... love not having a boom mic on the face as wel.
First of all, I really like your content and it helped me several times in the past with certain purchase decisions. Thanks for that! I understand why you choose this setup given the functionality it offers for your use. However, in my opinion (as a sound engineer and also an owner of the SM7B/PSA1 and a HD650), I think that the price ratio of the products seems off-balance. I mean, the Evo4 is a good interface for its price of approx. $100, but to pair it with an SM7B (a $400 mic) even with a sE DM1 Dynamite to boost the gain (another $100), you're not using the SM7B to its full potential. Of course, it will work with sufficient gain, but the SM7B can sound much better with a better mic pre-amp than the one built-in a $100 interface like the Evo4. And I am not basing this solely on the price of the Evo4, but because for a certain application, I am using the Evo4 at work for remote sports commentary, therefore I know how the Evo4 sounds from my own experience. The reason why I am responding to this, is that people might get the false impression that the balance of the combination of products is good price/performance wise, while you could either save some money by not buying the SM7B if paired with the Evo4 (get a cheaper mic, e.g. Rode Procaster, Podcaster etc that would be used more to its full potential), or either spend more on a good external preamp or an interface that gets the most out of the SM7B. I hope this helps someone who is considering buying a similar setup for gaming/streaming. All the best!
One thing to keep in mind about the Audient Evo4 is its high output impedance on the headphone out, around 20 ohms. Generally your headphone impedance should be 8x this figure to avoid frequency response fluctuations outside of spec. The HD58x are okay given their 150 ohm impedance. However some lower impedance ‘cans may not be.
I got my audio interface with 20 inputs and 10 speaker outputs as well as 2 headphone outputs for gaming. Don't think that anything here is overkill. But seriously though, I use this mixer for way more than just gaming. If all I did was gaming I doubt I would have gone passed my Scarlett Solo. And I use my mixer instead of my scarlett solo for gaming because I can add things like compression and EQ before the signal even reaches the pc, and also because of much better preamps and headphone amps.
Thank you for the vidéo. So we can have an Astro MIXAMP TR with good features for gamers ( voice mate & game balance ) but low quality sound or having this nice EVO 4 or 8 with nice sound but no gaming features like the MIXAMP ... Why can't we have one product finished at 100% with high quality ? :(
Its great, but everytime you shutoff your pc you have to press the 48Volt button for the microphone to work, Its a pain when you undermount to a desk like me.
Motu m2 would be the better option. Phantom power settings remain the same when switched on or off. And the coloured meters are great to monitor gain or clipping issues with your microphone.
Got a similar setup except I went for a GoXLR Mini. The ease of mixing audio from multiple inputs is crazy good plus the preamp can power almost any mic easily.
The Sure SM7B cut out so much of the room echo that the Rode mic was picking up! Really obvious when you do the side by side comparison, but your old videos still sounded good on the Rode mic, so I guess it's just a nice-to-have upgrade. A cheaper alternative to the Sure would be the Rode Podmic - should also work well in an untreated room, but for a few hundred $ less. Would probably still need the Dynamite stick though.
Huh what are the chances I just recently changed over from a Audio Technica AT2020 to a Shure SM7B although with a Triton Audio Fethead for my inline pre amp and a Focusrite Scarlett solo for my interface either way nice one dude! Since getting it have to admit I love my SM7B so hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I get mine anyway loved the video!
This guy is definitely a compulsive perfectionist lol Basically pushing everything (technically and visually) beyond their own limits and expectations...
Can't say I ever understand why you would want to hear your own voice when on coms. Anytime I have tried there is always a delay between what I say and what I hear and it makes it so I actually can't talk as my brain gets confused at what I am hearing. If there was a way to make sure there was no delay at all maybe I understand but open back headphones just seem to be the better option for this imo

What scored the top 2?
@@genericmike7361
#2 Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen
#1 Motu m2.
Both are more expensive than this so it is still a great deal.
@@tkgg that motu m2 looks amazing...
@@genericmike7361 Sure seems like it.
I wish he gets more views and companies should give him more opportunities to review great products. He’s def a 1m+ view TH-cam potential
@@LiveType same boat. Running 3770k and 1070 with my 1080p 120hz panel i got when 120hz hit the market. Just waiting to upgrade to 1440p ips 144hz and pc accordingly
Very rare to find an audio interface that can support driven headphones, an XLR mic, AND speakers! I might have to check this out. Finally some competition for Focusrite
Dang the interface cools cool. Wish it had a regular mic input
Also you can get the official ASIO, which replaces DirectX Audio. You can shave a few miliseconds of audio latency through there too!
I’m interested and have no idea what that meant at all lmaoo
I just bought a dac/amp combo (FX Audio Dac X6), since my mic is a usb one
Dang this guy has everything
"future Livestreams" 👀👀👀
If you havent yet you should hang out, the streams are pretty chill and OT is actually an Aim God.
@@BeefiusGravius wait, he already streams? You mean I can hear he's sweat voice for hours without clicking "next video"?
Man that one hell of a setup! 🔥
But boy that mic is overkill!
I’m using the blue yeti, the HD58 and Soundblaster x6
I think it makes more sense as a gaming-only audio setup 👌🏻
All the best!
what audio interface do you recommend for the sm7b as of today ?
One thing to keep in mind about the Audient Evo4 is its high output impedance on the headphone out, around 20 ohms. Generally your headphone impedance should be 8x this figure to avoid frequency response fluctuations outside of spec. The HD58x are okay given their 150 ohm impedance. However some lower impedance ‘cans may not be.
What about 6xx?
@@jcap8391 impedance is 300 ohms for 6xx so should be no issues with Freq. Response changes
Although i consider the games you play as mid, I respect the quality and how well put together these videos are.
YOOO! track ID on the intro?
Looking kinda buff now ngl
his name to me is optimum nutrition
I really like it but why can't they just put the controls on the front?
Intro sounds lushhhh... whats the Track ID?
wish it was usb 3.0 and the shielding inside was thicker. Though non of those things would boost the performance, it would ease my mind a bit more.
I'm planning to buy the Focusrite Scarlett Solo
Its great, but everytime you shutoff your pc you have to press the 48Volt button for the microphone to work, Its a pain when you undermount to a desk like me.
Motu m2 would be the better option. Phantom power settings remain the same when switched on or off. And the coloured meters are great to monitor gain or clipping issues with your microphone.
@@Edglen the thrut is that I play sp games and my idea is to use my pc as amp simulator
The Evo 4 is better than the Scarlett line. Plenty of videos on TH-cam showing why. You’re welcome.
@@LostWon I will check it out, thanks
I got myself a shciit magnius and modius paired with hd6xx with a balanced xlr cable
This guy is definitely a compulsive perfectionist lol
Basically pushing everything (technically and visually) beyond their own limits and expectations...
That’s one of the features of the audio interface, that it has low latency monitoring within it’s own circuitry.
Just want to say I love your style
Love your work bro
Simple setup but I'd honestly prefer anolog eq. It's just so much more nicer to have and generally couldn't compete with the quality noise gate.
These are some awesome upgrades, definitely gonna implement them to my set up. Also, what's the intro song? I'd love to hear the whole song.
R70x are better option imo, better with sound stage, using Mayflower objective 02 Amp
Great video! I wish I could go from my Blue Yeti to a Shure Sm7Bb... just don't have the use case for it to justify it but it looks so clean!!!
i cant stop looking at the thumbnail
What headphone adapter jack does he use ???
