I have a 1958 enclosed fiberglass moving trailer that had a 50+ year old BFGoodrich Silvertown size F78-15 tire that someone ran until the tread started coming off. The tire took forever to remove from the rim due to the extremely stiff sidewalls. A newer passenger tire came off without a problem because it was so flexible. I put on new Maxxis ST205/75R15 tires, which went on pretty easily. They aren't as stiff as that really old tire but are stiffer than the passenger vehicle tire.
I've seen quite a few tire videos, and thought there's no way I can learn anything new in this video. But I watched it anyway, and this is now my #1 tire removal video! The previous best used a clamp to hold the spot on the tire to prevent it from sliding back onto the rim as you work the other side of the tire. Your foot technique is better, and doesn't require a clamp! Thanks for posting.
@@kbbacon FYI, when removing the second tire edge from the rim, it did not come off like yours. My tire edge wasn't budging one bit -- it was stuck on the rim like nobody's business. The solution was to put in two tire irons about 3" apart (the most distance I could get), and then hammer them sideways with a 3 lb. mallet. Even then, the tire irons only moved about 1/8-1/4" every wack, but eventually I was able to get the tire over the rim about halfway around the tire, and then it came right off. Also, I recommend securing a thin piece of plastic around any portion of the tire iron that will rub against the rim in order to prevent the rim from being damaged.
@@kbbacon Nice video. I think you should patent the "Slicky-Slick® !!" In terms of lining up the tire stem with The tire, I didn't quite catch that. Is there a dot on the tire that indicates where this should be?! Thanks!!

You did a fine job... If it were a really nice rim you would want to use plastic strips cut from an anti freeze jug to protect the rim from prying scratches.
With the max air pressure in your tire, is why the old tire began to separate and bulge out. You also will braking ability especially when cornering at the rear tires. This will also give you a very harsh ride. Best to set your pressure recommended by the car manufacture recommendations. This will give a overall mileage, wear, and comfortable ride.
maybe not - radial tyres have a stiff and flat face, so slight over-inflation may have very little bad effect. I would keep an eye on the tyres in any case, just in case, as you say, they start to wear in the middle! (I've been 'over' inflating my tyres for years...)
Air inside of tire expands as weather gets warmer. If you set pressure to max, and temperature goes up, it may reach unsafe tire pressure and tire may blow out.
I always inflate my tires to the max and never had a problem. Tires will run hotter with less air as a softer tire increases rolling resistance and thus increases friction.
Sang, milk doesn't go bad exactly on the expiration date. Tires are safe at pressures much higher than stated on the sidewall. One should check pressures as temp change.
