Sexual abuse survivor here. This is a message letting me know I'm a survivor and not a victim of my abuser. You've inspired me more than you will ever know. Trauma is no joke and I know people don't take it as seriously as it is. Side note Icon for Hire is EPIC in this song!
@@vincenttrigg4521 thank you so much. I've only been out of my abusive relationship for a year but im trying desperately to heal and rid myself of the shame and guilt I feel every day

Psychological/emotional abuse survivor here. Actually, I'm currently living with the abuser (it's a family member, it's not by my choice but I'm searching means to get out) which put me under A LOT of stress. But I got my own strength, my faith and these songs to get by. ❤
@ligiabremer every day you remain in that environment is dangerous. Start not only looking for a means to get out, but an escape plan if things get really bad. Plan A is always good, but having backup plans (B, C, D) are always recommended in case Plan A falls through.
As a survivor of CSA and rape, this song hits hard!! Thank you @IconForHire and @CitizenSoldier for putting words to what I fight on a daily basis. To those who hurt me: you will never win. I survived!
Another brilliant song! Thanks guys... I've been listening to you for years and it has really saved my life. Jake, I love your voice, sometimes it's like light through the darkness... Thank y'all! Keep it up, you're amazing.
I'm bipolar with ADHD, PTSD, severe anxiety and I'm on the spectrum. The last two years have been absolute hell and while some days are better than others, you guys have helped pull me through quite a journey of self discovery and recovery. I couldn't thank you enough. Words fall short. All I can say, is thank you. Today, I don't want to die and that's a huge victory for me.

This song. I'm a SA survivor and a Domestic A survivor and its true im a survivor not a victim, I'm still standing yes I may have a lot of mental health issues, have nightmares/night terrors but I'm still standing. This is a message to all the Women and all the Men Your survivors
A few years ago I was at an extremely low point of my life and told one of my friends I was planning on ending it, she tried to talk me out of it and I told her "please just stop trying, no one else will even notice or care, and I'm sorry that this is gonna hurt you, but you'll move on and forget about me eventually" and she sent me a song and said "if you aren't going to listen to me can you at least listen to this song for me first", I told her fine, after that video I sent her a message thanking her. The song was Would Anyone Care. I recently became homeless, got fired from my job because I was forced to mask my autism for too long and kept having meltdowns, which the owner of the place referred to as "temper tantrums" and "throwing fits", because I couldn't unmask, I don't have any form of identification and just under 1000 bucks to my name right now. I have no idea how I'm going to build myself back up, I'm not making this comment for pity or to try and get help but to tell y'all the songs you guys continue to put out give me hope. Hope that one day discussion around mental health, disorders, and disabilities will become less stigmatized, hope that I will overcome this point of my life, hope that one day people will become willing to understand. Thank you for making songs aimed at destigmatizing depression, anxiety, autism, PTSD for the people like me who have to live with them, while I personally don't struggle with this one thank you for making songs for every person who has to struggle with things like eating disorders, and lastly thank you for making songs for all of us who have to fight ourselves to remind us we our strong enough to survive.
I was abused at a young age and no one cared because i was a male and it was probably something i wanted. People looked down on me and called me weak. The solitude, fear and sadness left me to make that choice no one should have to. When it didn’t work, my eyes opened and i was able to become the survivor and share my stories and thoughts with other men who have had the trauma that i have been through. I hope one day, the stigma will end.
No one should ever be dismissed over something so stupid and arbitrary I'm so sorry you've had to go through so much, you've survived so many things I hope you know you're an incredibly strong, brave person. God bless man, don't give up the fight, you're worth so much and no one can take away that you're worthy of respect and love🩷
I have to say thank you so very much. I have chosen to be a survivor from the trauma I experienced and now I am trying to continue growing as a person. Thank you for this song to remind me that it is a choice and that we are more than what we have experienced. Much love
Being a survivor of many types of abuse and neglect throughout my 24 years of life, im surprised I survived. If it wasn't for my husband, i probably wouldn't be here right now. He showed me how to heal because no one would show me. They just stuck me in a hospital and shoved pills down my throat.
The terms "victim" and "survivor" are so loosely associated with each other. As a survivor of bullying during grade school and middle school, during that time, I was a victim but I survived through it. The same goes with Domestic violence. Remember everyone, there is one universal truth in these situations: It is okay to walk away, it is okay to seek help and having children is not an excuse to stay. Get out now because it only gets worse!
I'm reading in the comments just how this song is encouraging people to take back their lives after what happened to them and guys... And I'd just love to hug you all, I'm so, so proud of you. And I'm proud of you who is reading this comment too, I know you are gonna make it through, because you're a survivor too. CS, thank you for always help me to remember that there is light, even through my darkest nights. Your songs are so meaningful to me because you guys don't block out the pain, you express it fully in your songs, and through that you remind us that there is a better life waiting for us. Thank you, really.
Family hell like none I've seen anywhere.. Paranoid trust issues from two decades of complex ptsd inducing pain Jaded from a life worse than the 4 attempts on my life between 14 and 19 It's been a hell of a climb. Told from the age of 6 that I was a lost cause. And I was so bad that they weren't wrong to do so.. I've now got an apartment, a gf that I support, and a life where I continue to grow and flourish.
There is no band better than citizen solider in doing what they do.. inspiration is their art.. I’m not even someone who needs this shit, thank God I’m naturally positive but I’m glad there is music out there like this for those who need it! 🥰
I love IFH but I'm frustrated that being a victim is demonized. I am a victim AND a survivor, it isn't one or the other. Being a victim isn't something you choose, it is something that is forced on you. One of the most empowering experiences I've had is realizing I have been victimized. I am not crazy, I did not learn "tough love". I was abused and neglected, and yes, I am a victim of those experiences. And at the same time, I am a survivor. Still love IFH and I look forward to the next song. (Citizen Soldier sounded great too, I have just never heard of them) :)
Perfect message after seeing my self as a victim of abuse both mentally and physically sexually this song give hope and shows me I'm not the victim and I can still carry on with my life.
My life has been heck. Foster care at a young age(2 years old) Mom physically and emotionally abused my siblings and I My parents divorced and I was parentified by my dad at age 12 Now 15, things getting better... I'm getting better.
Childhood trauma survivor, you have inspired me to get help and to talk more about my childhood trauma. What i went thought im a survivor and won't let trauma beat me. Thank you, citizensoldier and icon for hire thank u
Im a survivor of sexual, physical, emotional, and mental abuse and when 12 he went to prison for what he did to me for so many years and even tried to take me out to not do time, but the worst my entire family turned on me for sending him to prison and destroyed the family. After i almost lost my life at 12 and was thrown into system and went through more abuse and was never adopted cuz my caseworker said no one adopts broken and damaged goods so I finally ran away from system and survived on the streets at 16. I know i survived shit and seen stuff that I wish I didn't, but in life we can let them win amd destroy our lives or we can use our pain to help others to be suvivors just like us. I finally turned my life around and got bachelor's in psychology and got into social work to make a difference in the foster care system and at risk youth. I still hide all my pain and im a survivor cuz i didnt let my past define me and nothing in life worth having comes easy and i still struggle, and thats life. Its not about how many times we fall, its about not staying down. There is no success without failure and there is no failure without success. If i break it definitely wont be cuz of being a victim but because of everything i have survived.
My dad has just been diagnosed with throat cancer and I've been asking for away to get him out of his hole he has dug and i woke up the this morning and turned on my Pandora and this song played as soon i got the chance i sent it to my dad y'all got music that everyone can relate i think this song might help thank you guys for the music you create.
I always called myself the "victim" because survivor felt... Presumptuous. Like I didn't reach a point in my life to be labeled as such, maybe? I was 16, he was 33. I'm 22 now, and he doesn't have the kind of control over my entire existence that he had even 2yrs ago. I'm moving forward, therapy is going well- I don't deserve to belittle myself to just a victim of something, as if I'm still there IN the specific moment. ♡
Healing can take a very long time, but it's definitely worth it. Don't lose hope if you don't "get over" something quickly, true healing is supposed to take a lot of time and self reflection. Hang in there, everyone!
Reading the comments, I want to share a piece of my story too: Ever since I was 10 I developed anxiety, it was something like an asthma, at times it came, hit me like a wave, destroyed my nerves, and walked away slowly then, waiting for the next ocasion to peak. And let me tell you something guys, anxiety it is not like they tell us in movies and stuff, it does not look like someone with their breath altered and being visibly uneasy. In my case it looked like a quiet girl who had nightmares every single night for months and couldn't stop thinking, frightened of her own thoughts, silently. Aside from that, I lived with a narcissist parent who manipulated me often. I dealt with a strong guilt, and even developed some undiagnosed PTSD symptoms over time. But you know what? God saved me when I was at my worst. When I thought that I could keep going no more Jesus lift me up from that rock bottom. He got me out of that house, and more recently, he watched my tears in rhe middle of the night like in the book Kings II 20.1:10 and he healed me from anxiety. Once and for all, he broke all my chains. Healing wasn't a path filled with roses, instead it was a rough fight, but what he promised he made it true and he changed my life for ever. And now I'm still learning how to heal from the past, while building a good future, but through it I can be sure: I'm a survivor too.
Thank you for this song both my fiance and i needed this, we both needed to be reminded that we are survivors not victims of domestic abuse and sexual abuse
I'm a survivor of sa dv narcissism and manipulation and trauma bond. This song showed me that I can move past from it that I am not a victim and that I am a survivor. I've been listening to this song every day since it came out. Thank you for it.
I was sexually abused by a family member and have been hiding it for years, just now addressing it and going to therapy. This song gives me comfort on levels I've never felt before. Thank you for this beautiful masterpiece 🙏
I LOVEEEEEE THIS !!!!!!!!! i have battled depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts the past 8 years of my life (im 16btw) these songs have helped me get through some real BS... thanks you guys❤❤❤
I’m 20 years old and I am living in a very emotionally and mentally abusive house. I am very depressed and thought about ending it all a few times. This song gives me strength and hope for the future. I may feel like giving up right now but I am young and I WILL survive. I’ll become a SURVIVOR not a VICTIM. I may not want to be here some days but my will to survive is stronger.
I'm so sorry 😔 I was on that situation for years, the danger kept escalating and the threats that kept me scared since the beginning. Ehen i fid escape he broke my ribs and I suffered 7 months of pneumonia. Please stay safe, it's extremely hard, music kept me going 🥺🫶🏻🫶🏻
This song got me tearing today . Over the last. 3 months i lost my job and found out i was pre diabetic . The job i was laid off from was, My dream job what i whent to college for and busted my but for . I got my old job as a security guard for know. Iv been threw hell many times its time to bounce back again great song great message.
I went through a lifetime of DV, from my birth family through to my adopted family. Took me 30 years to finally realise that what I thought was 'love' and a 'happy home' was a cage. I spent 30 years in the cage and the only thing they never took from me was my will to survive. This song is like my anthem, I have never liked being referred to as a victim, because to me that sounds like they won and I lost. I'm bruised, bent and not in the best condition but I survived them. I survived a living hell, I refuse to be known for what happened to me, I want to be known for what I do. I'm finally on the path that I wanted to be on for so long, I can't cry anymore due to GL, but I'm climbing and if any rocks get dislodged in my climb, I hope they don't injure the ones that are the reason for my climb. Though I have hate for them, I do not hate them nor do I pity them. i am numb, indifferent but I am still here and I have survived.
My biological mother is in the hospital right now. She tried to commit suicide. My biological aunt is in the hospital again after being sick from another complication of diabetes, caused by her primary's negligence when it came to getting her insulin. My ex is physically, mentally, and sexually abusive. I finally had the courage to get my son and I away from him 7 years ago and haven't looked back. His most recent ex I know through friends and she and I are very close and shared the same trauma with him. My former best friend cost me my childhood home and tried to get my son taken away from me. This entire family is full of people with stories like ours. We were victims, but we are not victims now. We are survivors.
For years I have felt like I was the victim of abuse and S.A., this song just entirely changed my point of view I am so glad I came acrost this. This helps me so much, Thank you so much!❤❤
Today im deciding to be a Survivor. Today is beginning of the rest of my life. I am walking away from my addictions and my abusers. My life ia mine and mine alone
Im a survivor of incest and sexual abuse that started at age 3 n lasted to age 14 by an older male cousin. Thank you for this song. Ive struggled from m age 11 to current woth self harm also. Im finally back in therapy so thats a plus so i can work on my issues.
I was an absued survivor. My own father put me in the hospital. Near death. I survived near death and since then I’ve been sitting in the shadows waiting patiently. He took an innocent child and made him into a hateful remorseless weapon. All these years I haven’t sitting on my ass twiddling my thumbs. My birth will be his downfall. It all takes time. And I will get my revenge.
I was always victim but I have changed so much since I realized that … so I’m now survivor forever I gald I’m not my past self and I won’t ever be my past self again
This song is so fire!! The imagery in this video is like always perfect. Perfect example is the pawn on the chessboard with the shadow of the crown on the wall. Chef’s kiss! Can’t wait for what’s to come

Two of my favorite bands who make music about mental health making a song together?! When I say I dropped everything I was doing when I saw this, I'm not even exaggerating. This song is incredible, thank you for this. One of the hardest parts of trauma is convincing yourself you can do anything about it, that you aren't forever broken. Victim or survivor indeed.
This band and song has given me the courage to spur on and keep going thank you so much citizen soldier you have no idea how much youve helped me youve saved my life literally
Domestic abuse survivor here. I have ptsd from everything ive been through but i no longer see my self as a victim im a survivor. This song is amazing and means so much! Thank you citizen soldier!

STOP, YOU ARE KIDDING ME. MY TWO FAVORITE BANDS OF ALL TIME HAVE COLLABED? THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE
Icon lead singer fits this song so well and es just makes this song so perfect
I know right? They always get the best collabs
Glad to hear that 🫶
Agreed
Perfect message after seeing my self as a victim of abuse both mentally and physically sexually this song give hope and shows me I'm not the victim and I can still carry on with my life.
My life has been heck.
Foster care at a young age(2 years old)
Mom physically and emotionally abused my siblings and I
My parents divorced and I was parentified by my dad at age 12
Now 15, things getting better... I'm getting better.
Cancer survivor, borderline personality disorder patient, abusive and emotional manipulation relationship survivor, sexual abuse survivor, suicide attempt survivor at 16 here!
Childhood trauma survivor, you have inspired me to get help and to talk more about my childhood trauma. What i went thought im a survivor and won't let trauma beat me. Thank you, citizensoldier and icon for hire thank u
As someone who sometimes resorts to blaming my actions on my past this really helps. You've saved me, multiple times. Thank you
Im a survivor of sexual, physical, emotional, and mental abuse and when 12 he went to prison for what he did to me for so many years and even tried to take me out to not do time, but the worst my entire family turned on me for sending him to prison and destroyed the family.
How could've I lived 7 months not knowing two of my TOP5 bands did song together!
This song is so amazing great job citizen soldier yall are so amazing with your songs the vocals are literally perfect im in love 😍😍😍😍
Much love 🫶
And another one that hits deep in the soul. Thank you Citizen Soldier! 🙏🏽🫶🏽🙏🏽
"Ill be the mess, you be the medicine." "I think I'm sick!" Awesome collab!!
Healing can take a very long time, but it's definitely worth it. Don't lose hope if you don't "get over" something quickly, true healing is supposed to take a lot of time and self reflection. Hang in there, everyone!
Listening to this right after getting myself into more intensive therapy! Absolutely love it!
This is a very encouraging song. I find the icon for hire sounds like the misfits from the 80s Jem cartoon...
GOD YALL NEVER DISAPPOINT

This feels like forever ago. This timr he hit me for the last time. It's time to be a survivor and a victim no more
We're all fighting our own battles. Love this song! Great job 👍
“When it rains you can drown or be baptized”
When you write songs from the heart, they never can fall flat.
And especially when we sing them together

What a great collaboration! Two of my favorite bands together in one beautiful song
I was used as a doll in multiple people's game, I'm a survivor like the rest of you, don't give up, always try to find the light
A dream came true with collabs of legends❤ top🎉
Omg yes!!! Two of my fav bands! And the best mental health bands around!!! I haven't even listened yet and I know it will be amazinggg!!
I have been waiting for MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That damn short was a hell of a tease! THANK YOU!
I love the way you guys tell stories through music. Keep up the amazing work. 💙
❤

Love everything about the song, The Music, The Lyrics, even the collab
This song is so fire!! The imagery in this video is like always perfect. Perfect example is the pawn on the chessboard with the shadow of the crown on the wall. Chef’s kiss! Can’t wait for what’s to come
Dude, I got literal chills, then didn’t even realize I was crying. Thank you for this song, you’re music has gotten me through so much
This is already my new favorite song

SA Survivor here. Finding this song 3 days after it happening, has helped bring a light into my darkness ☀️
“Boy, I’m not the victim, I’m the survivor❗️❗️❗️”
OH GOD, THAT'S AWFUL. THANK GOODNESS YOU SURVIVED, I HOPE YOU'RE DOING WELL...GOD BLESS, I'M SO SORRY THAT HAPPENED TO YOU THOUGH...I HOPE YOU CAN SLOWLY HEAL ONE DAY AT A TIME, PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY. :) I HOPE I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING OFFENSIVE OR RUDE. ^_^
Thank you citizen soldier for another masterpiece
