Hahaha! That's great. I can see my grandfather using that one. I'd say the barn used to be a major fixture for years, so the person giving directions just remembered it as a major landmark and didn't realize that the person getting directions wouldn't have known it even existed.
@@Jan-xe8ln This is exactly how my uncle gives directions. He tried to give me directions to his daughter’s house about 5 years ago. I could never find it. Still don’t know where exactly she lives. 😂

as an Irish person, I understood everything... it's crazy how similar our accents are :O
It's very true. Because most of us are of Irish decent. I was talking to my father one day on the phone in front of these two ladies in Alberta, and I heard one of them say"are they even speaking English or gaielic?" 🤣
My mom is from Newfoundland and I love visiting family there, stories like this about directions to a particular place does result in a half hour long conversation with me ending up in someone's house for tea.
I got drunk with a newfie buddy 1 time ....well after the first 2 beers I couldn't understand a word what he was saying, well except 'lord Jesus' .....true story.
East coasters in general. This reminded me so much of my Cape Bretoner stepdad. I warned my husband before the first time he met my stepdad that he shouldn't ask him any questions but he did - and we loved the stories he told :)
One of my favourite comedians and of his routines, this one's my favourite. Newfoundlanders are tough people with a sense of humour - I look forward to vacationing there one day.
Go Shaun!! Watched him on the Candian documentary the Next Big Thing. It's about the struggles of young Canadian comics and Shaun was the only one to succeed and make it to Hollywood (his big dream). What was cool was that he almost quit. Became so disenchanted with it all but he stayed with it and now he's a TV and Film star. Good For You, Shaun!!
Wow really? I didn't know any of that and he was a part of my childhood! Even got to meet him & get his autograph when him and his co-VJ at the time (he used to be a VJ on YTV in the 90s) came to visit my city. Damn now I wish I knew what happened to the autograph 😅
We're great at tellin stories bhy sure one of me friends from Toronto loves talkin to me she'll ask like "how was your day" or somethin like that and man you can see her face light up because I goes on in details and she smiles from ear to ear. Here's somethin how it went today; Like today was a good day cause second period I had a presentation in English or career development (I'm in French immersion so fuckin everything's in French) and it was a nice break, but half of us was answering back in French 😂😂 then me and me friends went to Tims for lunch and we had our iced Capps and coffe and by the fuckin traffic was unreal like Hannah was tryna pull out of the parkin lot for around 10 minutes and we were all pissin ourselves laughing cause she was getting mad and of course we were yelling at her "go now sure!! Lin you coulda went then!!" And when we got back on the school parking lot we were jammin out to the radio and honking at our friends across from us. Then it got bad cause it turns out I can't work at stabarama cause I'm 2 months and 4 days younger than I should be which really pisses me off and of course the manager had to call during class so I was complaining to mudder in the middle of the hall and a teacher looked at me and was a bit confused but man I was so fucking mad because he took his sweet time telling me that I can't work there. But then I remembered I was supposed to babysit after school for my aunt so I was all good again. Until my cousin started being a fuckin prick and decided to make fun of me again so I told en off (again) and I ended up getting so mad I started crying and I swear to Jesus if he looks at me wrong tomorrow I'll give en a good punch in the face. Anyways enough about me, how's you been, bet it ain't 4 degrees out like it is here but bhy the trees are some nice, here luh. *sends pic of trees* man I spose its good here though, there haven't been anything major goin on expect ME NOT BEING ABLE TO WORK NOW LIKE TOOK EN LONG ENOUGH TO TELL ME. HE TOOK ABOUT A WEEK SURE HE COULDA TOLD ME THIS ABOUT TREE (three) DAYS AGO SO I WOULDNT HAVE TOLD SO MANY OF ME FAMILY THAT I GOT A FUCKIN JOB. lol sorry got off topic a bit anywaysss.
Saint John is in New Brunswick, this is Newfoundland. They're completely different places, though the capital of Newfoundland is St. John's so maybe that's the confusion.
Most Newfoundlanders can trace their ancestry back to Ireland & England's "west country". To a lesser extent, Scotland and France as well, tho most Scots went to Nova Scotia
We usually speak so fast that we don't have time to to use the whole word so we like to cut words off and run some together like instead of "what are you doing" we say waddaya at? Or these days we say You at? I call it lazy irish
Oh man relax! Whatever the origin of the word, we made it our own! I'm proud to call myself a Newfie, its what I am. I take no offence at all to it, and I welcome the title. Maybe you should do the same.
I don't think he meant any harm by it, he was just trying to joke around with people about something many Newfies do lol. I laugh at some jokes about Manitoba/Manitobans because they're either spot on or funny stereotypes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
fuckin rights by's. funniest ting i've ever seen. buddy got it right on point there. i do believes, he's a true blooded newfie tho. spot on regardless. Bishop Falls/Botwood, Newfoundland!
It's kind of sad if you took that statement literally. Lol. It's not literally sad, no. It's the same thing as if I had to say "That was crazy accurate." or something along those lines. It's not literally crazy, it's just an expression.
Most Newfoundlanders have a variant of Irish because most newfoundlanders either have roots in Ireland, or grew up around a lot of people who do. The Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula ESPECIALLY have a really THICK Irish Accent
walking downtown water street one windy wet day and a panhandler asked me for some change, I said I didn't have a dime, byes he says, I got some whats do ya need..😅only in NFLD
The best directions somebody told me they heard once was: "Turn left where the barn used to be."
Hahaha! That's great. I can see my grandfather using that one. I'd say the barn used to be a major fixture for years, so the person giving directions just remembered it as a major landmark and didn't realize that the person getting directions wouldn't have known it even existed.

lol I get a lot of that and also, "When you get to that red house on the corner, keep goin cause that's not it" or a version of that.
"Turn right at the old canadian tire"

To be fair, I've often heard it said that Cape Bretoners are mostly just Newfoundlanders who ran out of money on their way to Toronto. 😂

Yes by das us. Proud to be a Newfie.
I lived in Saint Johns when I was a tyke of four. I LOVED it. Can't say I remember the accent though. (I was raised in Colorado Springs, CO, USA. )

Just for him, even though all the Newfies in the comments all agree about how accurate this is? 🤔
