Ok this video blew up for some reason so I should clarify a few things: 1) I'm actually pretty bad at the game. Before this update I was the one typically getting spawn-killed over and over by players who are WAY better than me. If you want to see what those players are like, I recommend watching executλble: th-cam.com/video/FWzWmXiVtKk/w-d-xo.html (crossfire 1v1 - 278 kills PB by executλble) th-cam.com/video/8sZb7QPj-AM/w-d-xo.html (execut4ble vs Worldspawn on boot_camp) It's only now that there are a bunch of new players that I can do well on a public server, but I still die a good bit because there are so many people on a map. When joining a map with less people, there were a few servers that kicked me for "tryharding" 2) Also my movement is pretty trash. Here are some examples of what a typical HLDM player can pull off: th-cam.com/video/_YwC7V1nmXU/w-d-xo.html (Half-Life tutorial: Gauss jumping by kimakify) th-cam.com/video/a5E3u4YYAYY/w-d-xo.html (Half-Life Crossfire Lamp Jump by quadrazid) 3) I don't actually know how the lamp shots work. I just know that when I shoot the lamps, people die: th-cam.com/video/cZFw1G2a62Q/w-d-xo.html (Half-Life tutorial: Wallgauss by kimakify) th-cam.com/video/bHOloJHzJT4/w-d-xo.html (WALLGAUSS TUTORIAL 2018 by executλble) It's very broken and if Valve really wants to balance the multiplayer weapons, I think they should nerf/remove wallgauss, or add an optional server cvar that can disable it. 4) I'm not actually a boomer, I'm a zoomer. I've just played a lot of HLDM
Should I be using the auto aim option to help my shots connect? I can't tell if other people are using it, sometimes the hit feedback is not very clear
@justind4615 there's an option in settings I don't know if servers have it disabled but when I jumped on to play a few rounds I couldn't tell a difference with it on or off and don't know what everyone else is using
Men like these are the reason why I'm afraid to touch the multiplayer of Half Life Edit: Just played it, it was pretty damn good, despite being obliterated more times than I could count.
Its not too bad if you have never played hldm. I only played deathmatch in highschool with friends. Only now im playing it online and its been a blast to play.
I was once browsing HLDM servers late at night in 2019 with a friend and found a server with 5 players. We joined, and immediately saw a dude just destroying everyone with 15k/d on the board. We thought he was cheating but I later searched up his profile on steam and found that he has account from 2003 and... _over 26000 hours_ on the damn game. How are these people still alive?
Heck, im sure at least 30% of them still have the pirated version of HL Thats why it shows 2/32 when in reality its 15/32 because the charts only count those who have Steam client
God its such an unusual feeling when I played HL1 Multiplayer last night, everyone was killing eachother while a handfull of players talk about random things via voice chat or make random sounds, pure 2000s vibes, and I hope that everyone will keep playing HL1 Multiplayer but im scared it wont hold on for too long 😢
I wonder if this is like a tf2 2011 situation were sinces it's free tons of 8 year old players come in knowing nothing about half life and then get hit from a man in his 30s
1 vs 1 I can score 100 with my opponent being in the negative (by making them suicide LOL). It's hard, but the most difficult part is finding someone willing to put with it.
In 1998 campers were as hated as griefers and cheaters. HLDM is almost impossible for the corner camper because of the Tau Cannon, Snarks, Hivehand, and various explosives.
Imagine being there when this game was at its peak, playing for hours and hours. Years go by, generations change, gaming changes and the game is long dead and all you have left are your treasured memories seen through rose tinted glasses. Then one day chad-Valve releases an update for a 25 year old game, gives it out for free and an influx of 30 thousand players comes flooding back, and you get to relive the nostalgia. I hope all you ancient gamers have a good time.
Half-Life has such a great arsenal, so I'm glad the 25th anniversary update revived deathmatch for a while. Getting a flick double shotgun kill on a guy about to gib you with the Gluon Gun is just pure dopamine release. And I finally get to have fun with the Long Jump Module somewhere other than Xen! Even Snarks and the Hive Hand manage to be somewhat useful.
Joined a server with half of it micspamming classic half life memes and references, it genuinely made me cry, I may have been born after half life but I grew up with it and all of the emotions, the years of recollecting memories, seeing people acknowledge them and having tremendous fun while at it made me actually cry, I was still playing, I was still fragging, I was enjoying myself, it was overwhelming and beautiful.
Im 30 I play this game ever since my dad bought it for me when I was 5. Even tho I dont play it all the time, LAN parties during my childhood left me with an insane muscle memory, hence my zoomer cousins are surprised to see me play.
Tau Cannon and Crossfire was my iconic duo in the early 2000s. Also, there are about 30k current players on Steam. This does put a smile on my face. EDIT: Here is an old dog trick. Whenever someone triggers the nuke on Crossfire, get the Tau Cannon and go to the landing pad in front of the bunker. After you hear the plane flying over, charge the Tau, wait 3 seconds and launch yourself in the air. When the bomb hits you should be very high above ground. That's where the bomb can't kill you, besides being in the bunker of course.
You were that impossible to kill tau cannon dude who was impossible to see and impossible to kill in my childhood games. Then I'd just die randomly like I was being toyed with by the Predator. Good times.
I joined a game yesterday on the new map disposal, and when we figured out you could open the dumpster, the server became a game of king of the hill, to see who could stay inside for longer. i also ran around the rest of the maps in a LAN server i made, and found a few bugs and some fancy pixelwalks, probably the most fun i've had in a long time lol
Ngl that 8 year old is wholesome he's taking out time in his day to play somthing almost 3 times his age. Respect. Could even become a core gaming memory, these kids might keep the series around for a long time.
8 years old? Honestly that makes me smile. Im so glad to see the kids playing oldies. Maybe some of em will grow up and change the game industry for the better!
Last time when I was playing Half-Life 1 online was back in like 2006 or so, I don't remember. And it was way before I got my own PC. I was just playing with random people at school in computer class or in some computer clubs. And I suck at it. But eventually I learned a little bit basic stuff, but later I quit playing online because of cheaters. Like, you spawn and start playing and BAM, you already dead and there is no one around where I was spawned. And the last game I played online was CS 1.6 and it was back in 2013 or so. But I played with my friends in closed session, until one of them invited few other people who were using cheats and that is when I lost it completely. I stopped even touching any video game ever when it comes to online play. I simply play in single player or in local co-op and that's it. And until there will be cheaters I will not touch any multiplayer game ever again.
I was an AG Player back in the day and it was the first game I got insanely good at (at like 12-13 yO, just like diehard fortnite kids) and I hopped back after more than twelve years just to realize my skills are pretty much intact. I've been banned and kicked from every single lobby.
i was 13 when i was playing HLDM on my pentium computer. 200ms ping but never on the bottom of the scoreboard. i miss the good old times. and it was just 5 years ago 😅
Half Life 1 Deathmatch is literally the only multiplayer game that I was really skilled in. While I suck at most modern shooters I can say that I managed to achieve relatively crazy KD ratios in this game. Something like 120 Kills 10 Deaths was not uncommon. Enough bragging xD. Thanks for this video. It really made me nostalgic.
I love to see a community that was almost dead being revived like that, server fulls, veterans having fun like old times and new players experiencing the game for the first time. Its just awesome to see people having fun like that
I used to play AG (Adrenaline Gamer) mod with friends for probably 5 years... this is how I felt after jumping in the past couple days... Loaded up my custom configs, models and crosshairs and went to town on some noobs. Its been fun so far. Good love a good borked update from Valve with hype! Love how they broke stuff for all the other GLD:SRC games in the process... XD Nice shots.
The wave of new players certainly can be annoying, either by them calling you cheater of even raging from the march because a lot of veterans are in-game. Come to think of it, I haven't see this many in the past years and now, my goodness, in almost every server there's at least 2 or 4 of these one man army blokes, is hilarious how chaotic the server can become, explosions all over the place, free for all with pistols or madlads running around smacking people with the crowbar + jump pack combo. What a great time for HLDM.
This reminds me of the first months when tf2 became free. Thousands of noobs are overflowing the servers and I am steadily gaining 5-6 dominations. Gold times
Shooting through lamps basically creates the ghost effect, when a wall or any brush entity has just some few units of distance from another that effect basically happens, making explosions from satchels, and tripmines or even from other sources reach through the walls, thats why it happens. Also you have some great skills playing this game, are you using any alias though ? (Just curious)
I'm curious why so many young kids seem to be so interested in Half-Life lately. How long have you been playing Half-Life and how were you introduced to it? I had a similar experience when I was a kid everyone was playing GTA 5 and the newest CoD but I just wanted to keep playing old ass boomer shooters
@@giberic i found half life probably in 2017 back when i was like 6 years old -and trash at the deathmatch mode- then another 6 years later i found myself interested again after the game became free lol btw i knew about some of the tricks in this video for a long time but just couldnt do them good enough that it would give me so much speed that i wasnt used to, skill issue on my part i guess
Quake-like arena shooters are all very weird compared to modern shooters. Steepest learning curve and an insanely high skill ceiling. It's no wonder why this type of multiplayer FPS died out. For the average player it's really not fun to be killed less than a second after spawning in with just a pistol.
@@_Catgirl_Connoisseur_ I'm not really juvenoic about it. There are some more modern FPS games that are really fun for veterans and new players, and it's understandable that those kinds of games became more popular than older arena shooters which are basically impossible to play if you're new.
Genuine question here: is hldm actually a fun experience or is it just constantly getting killed by people like this guy (no offense, it’s really impressive)?
If you have no prior experience with Quake or other arena shooters, it's just not a fun experience. That's the main reason these kinds of FPS games died out th-cam.com/video/J9m_f5H-UZc/w-d-xo.html
It's not fun. It's why mods like counter-strike added objectives to make the player invest themselves into winning the match. Cod4 also revolutionized the fps genre by adding extrinsic motivation in the form of unlockables through progression.
If you Decided to join a server that has up to 32 players on a map that's meant for at max 9 players You can witness a Virtual simulation of what Life was like for a Soldier during a heavy firefight during ww2 Endless Constant and Undying Volume of Gun fire destruction and dying screams

GG, I am never this good in multiplayer but played for years in specific servers and a lot of mods. Best game's best community.
I played the original half life at the beggining of this year, I missed a lot of stuff
Gen Z discovering arena shooters and just how high the skill ceiling can be in an FPS... excellent!
Food for the scoreboard.
The only real skill ceiling In these kind of games is that everything happens way too fast. Otherwise it's just a fps like others.
@@spellbrand477 hahahaha ok
0:38 Tau Cannon parkour aside, the skill required to pull off those close range crossbow shots is the most impressive thing about this video!
To this day, I still don't get why shooting lamp kills players. I played this since I was a kid.
i dont get it either. i wish they would fix it though
Half-Life: No Grass for 25 Years Edition
Joke aside, holy shit you are scaring me.
_haha_ Tau Cannon go λλλλ...
Real gigachad part is that he's doing this well with 100+ ping
wth did half life deathmatch always looked this good?
happy to see new players in arena
I played HL MP for the last time 23 years ago.
Holy shit do I feel old.
Fortnite Kids fear the Half Life Bhoppers
Bro i knew something was up when counter strike condition zero deleted scenes got a 82mb update. REAL SHIT‼️‼️‼️
What's the point? Wasted your time learning skills that are useless in real life.
Bro what do you mean? It’s not waste of time learning skills
This isn't even crazy skill. The fact that fragging 8 year olds is beyond you tells me that you're just hopelessly retarded.
You wasted your time writing a comment ONLINE? Useless in real life!
Bro you sound miserable.
The point is to have fun and not have a boring life.
im not a half life veteran but my gameplay looks just like this, i guess my tf2 experience reflect on gldsource engine
14 year old and my freinds tell me I am a boomer because I play Half-Life
dont listen to them, you just have good taste
You can tell them their weird videogame gatekeeping is way more boomer... Also it's safe to say HL is more Gen X or Gen Y, if anything
@@giberic i found half life probably in 2017 back when i was like 6 years old -and trash at the deathmatch mode- then another 6 years later i found myself interested again after the game became free lol
btw i knew about some of the tricks in this video for a long time but just couldnt do them good enough that it would give me so much speed that i wasnt used to, skill issue on my part i guess
I’m 25 but peopel told me the same thing when I was 14
Goddamn bunker. So many hours. Good move, Valve.
Dude, how are you getting so much fun killing too many players? I got banned for spawnkilling one player using a tripmine
Liked for the simple reason you used POV correctly. Cheers
okay sweatlord
weaboo
Half life death match is such a weird death match game.Last time I played it in some kind of pirated version.
Quake-like arena shooters are all very weird compared to modern shooters. Steepest learning curve and an insanely high skill ceiling.
It's no wonder why this type of multiplayer FPS died out. For the average player it's really not fun to be killed less than a second after spawning in with just a pistol.
@@giberic the developers are rich businessmen who know nothing about gaming that's why. Making games child friendly and loot boxes is all they know
@@_Catgirl_Connoisseur_ I'm not really juvenoic about it. There are some more modern FPS games that are really fun for veterans and new players, and it's understandable that those kinds of games became more popular than older arena shooters which are basically impossible to play if you're new.
lose all respect when saw that wallbanging gauss
Half life ost >>>>>>> doom ost
I can't wait for the 25th anniversary of TF2 so we finally get an update
Genuine question here: is hldm actually a fun experience or is it just constantly getting killed by people like this guy (no offense, it’s really impressive)?
If you have no prior experience with Quake or other arena shooters, it's just not a fun experience. That's the main reason these kinds of FPS games died out
th-cam.com/video/J9m_f5H-UZc/w-d-xo.html
its fun for 2 hours but thats it. its just endless fighting in the end
It's not fun. It's why mods like counter-strike added objectives to make the player invest themselves into winning the match. Cod4 also revolutionized the fps genre by adding extrinsic motivation in the form of unlockables through progression.
No offense, this is below average skill level (it can get much MUCH worse)
If you Decided to join a server that has up to 32 players on a map that's meant for at max 9 players
You can witness a Virtual simulation of what Life was like for a Soldier during a heavy firefight during ww2
Endless Constant and Undying Volume of Gun fire destruction and dying screams
I never tried jumping with the gauss gun. I would like to do that, lol.

Hope more low end pc players joins half life deathmatch. Also hope valve makes all cs game free.
CS 1.6 and DOD updates would be great.
@damsen978 I do miss the extra class variety though.
I swear wall bangs with tau canons are auto aimed.
