So, about this mess, this is what happened from official documents: the reason is the fracture of the SHR insulator during disconnection due to freezing of the knife in the sponges and aging of the porcelain. We made an extra effort and it fell apart.. DZT and MTZ worked immediately, but the switching device did not work on disconnection due to a defect in the output relay 2RP, a factory defect in soldering the coil.

This is hands down the best and most fitting half-life sfx edit. Love the little details eapecially the loading time cut offs, spray writing and ofc the convolutional environment reverb. Well, if it works, it would be a sin to throw away. After 35 years I'm still sleeping on the same Soviet couch that my mother put me to sleep when I was a toddler. A bed and 2 newly-made couches that were supposed to replace it all fallen apart after few years of use each. Although it's too finally at its last legs, I think I will need to get some semi-custom especially steel-reinforced build as replacement.
Remember this video the next time someone (incorrectly) tells you electronics can't explode like in a movie or video game. With enough current, *everything* explodes.
Same with cars, they usually just get engulfed in fire whenever the fuel tank gets damaged, but I've seen a video of one violently and loudly exploding by a curb. (no body was killed as far as I know, some probably just got some burns)

Actually he did the correct thing, the only other way out was to run the way he came, but the fire was exhausting out towards that direction. To go back the way he came would be very dangerous, so he ran the long way around where the fire couldn’t catch him.
An electrical fire without the electric is no longer an ''electrical fire'', so it is ok to throw water/snow at it. The fact that some people think these trained people were just throwing snow at an electrical fire makes me lose faith in humanity even further. They were communicating, hes clearly holding a radio on his hand. He knew the power was off, so he had to do something to help the ease the fire before it spreaded and dealt damage to other equipment.

I checked the original video. The worker called his collegue I guess and told him to shut down the grid before he started throwing snow at fire. The "electrical fire" stopped just because the power was off.

It's unpowered at the point of time, and burning equipment would actually bring even more problems and money losses, so trowing snow until other worker brings real fire extinguisher is *actually* good move, so stop it with a jokes.

Nothing near what these guys had to deal with , but I was standing on a platform at work when a power feed to a huge electric motor decided to short and arc all over the place , right next to my Forman and I. I am glad for PPe, the insulated boots and gloves could have saved our lives, we don’t know.

Usually i think you'd just wait for the fire to burn itself out. Usually fire departments in the area of a transmission station have a rough idea of how to deal with an electrical fire. I'm sure there might be something you can find on google about it since it's probably a pretty common occupation.
Someone said that throwing snow on it helps. I'm assuming that the electrical fire isn't hot enough to melt the snow near-instantly, and since the snow is like a lump of playdoh when not melted, it could be used to choke the fire.
