I’m a new surfer, nobody wants to help me, so I’m watching your videos and I’m learning so fast month by month… when I get into the ocean I feel connected. Is something impossible to explain. Thank you

Nice vid bud. Regarding the look where you go I think a lot of intermediate surfers and even advanced tend to look down the line and pump for speed immediately instead of delaying their bottom turn a touch to make use of earlier sections they may miss. Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning and Tom Curren are masters of delaying that bottom turn a touch to perform critical manoeuvres early and making the most of the wave. You can even see Curren on a lot of his bottom turns look straight down, glance down the line for a second and then look straight back down allowing his eyes to guide him through his bottom turns.

Ryan, could you please explain the techniques you use to get a round a wave that breaks in front of you to get back to the wave. So to make it clear you are on a wave and the section in front of you breaks and you want to speed up surf around it to get back to the wave face which is say 5 meters in front of you.
Do you compress, and lean your inside rail more into the white water and lift the outside up a bit, or do you use other ways to increase your speed to surf around it.
    Thanks

Hi Tony, where possible you would perform a manoeuvre on that section in order to get over it and back to the wave face. Depending on the section and your ability, you could use a floater, foam climb or re entry. Does that help?

Can you explain how you do this pumping? Here 1:02 , here 1:38 or here 1:49. What happens with your feet? Is this like a up down speed generation but faster and shorter, or more like a tick tack? I think this short pumping is needed to accelerate in small waves, but rarely talked about.

Hi Ivy, good point. I would say a combination of the two but more tick tack, this particular spot is notorious for being fat, so I feel like that can help maintain some momentum over those sections but in this case get around those upcoming sections. It is really just like shorter, tighter heel to toe weight transitioning.
