I took a test drive today in the 2024 Niro PHEV SX Touring. Great vehicle and really enjoyed the interior and the exterior IMHO is much nicer than the "Thomas the Tank" Kona. Next comes the decision as to whether I get the PHEV or go Full Monty and get the EV! It appears that the Wave has a few more "bells and whistles" than the SX Touring PHEV. I'd be leasing, so MSRP isn't as much a factor as cost to lease -- and no engine or maintenance to deal with for 3 years. In 2027, at lease end, I'd turn in the EV and get another, and by then, the Li-Ion tech may have evolved to a cleaner technology.

Readers; this writer has the first year, 2019 Niro BEV. It has held up well over time. For the anti-EV-ites; no it has not caught fire, and no I have not replaced the battery every month. Its a fine car and EV in one package. Useful, handy in an urban environment and CAN be used for road trips. That is if you are not in some race against the clock. It does charge slower than some other machines. This owners view is that Kia made this as an urban runabout, not a trans national cannonball express EV- hence the slower charging rate When this 2019 'dies of old age' it will be replaced with another Niro.

Thanks for the feedback. I am looking at either Niro PHEV SX Touring trim, or Wave EV trim.

No oil change, check engine light, coolant drip marks on the concrete, air filter change, and on and on and on and ......Yeah ...forget the hybrid, plug-in, and gas engine .... you are all in or tap dancing ?!?! Forget the oil companies: charging networks are coming !! Great review and insights !!

Predictably good review. Appears to be very good car. Not the 800 volt architecture of the higher priced electric Kias and Hyundai models. I would start with a base Prius LE as my venture into electric. The alternative would be the base Tesla 3 if the government rebate and Tesla discounts still applied. Love that smooth, creamy flow of power on take off. Electric is here..no use to fight it. It will only get better as ICE power goes away like steam did early in the 20th century. I could get hooked! Zero tailpipe emissions! Let's just push for sustainable electrical power sources. Keep up the good work in the upcoming year!

Doesn’t charge quick enough, that’s why I’ll not be getting another one.

I think the 2024 Kona Limited is a much better value.

I drive a 2022 Kona Limited -- do you think that the 2024 Kona looks like you are driving a tank? It's round and ugly. I think I'd get the Niro over the Kona in 2024.

I guess you’re right because I ended up getting a 2023 Niro Wave instead. I got too good of deal on it since they needed to get rid of the old model year.
