I fell off my chair when I saw your new cab king. I have been using one just like yours for the last eight years. I’ve cut every stone I got from you on my cab king. It’s a wonderful machine and your videos are wonderful as well. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. Bill from Ohio.
Justin, I've read the other comments, along with yours, It sounds like a good machine! I'm sure you will be making beautiful gems for yrs. to come! Til next time, keep making magical gems from Mother Earth, and we'll see you next time...
Hi Justin, I gotta get this out of my system, could be a long comment, I appreciate that you might not have time to read it. I've been fascinated by gold mining for over a decade now and always thought that would be the one thing I would always want to do. That was until about a week ago. I was looking at some prospectors here on TH-cam and some opal videos popped up in the recommended. I watched one other channel before I found your channel. Between the two of you, a lot more so yourself, I now have an indescribable fascination with this stone. a lot stronger than I ever felt about gold. The main reason being is I believe I can do what you do. I've heard you say a lot of people say that, but I do have some background. I'm a toolmaker and machinist of ~20 years and I understand the cutting and polishing process inside and out. I also have a good 3D spacial awareness. The more videos of yours I watch, the more I felt like I can see inside these stones. The more I see you cut and and slice and polish, the more I begin to predict what you were going to do. One that stood out to me was the boomerang-ey L shaped stone you had, I knew you would cut it in three. Another one where you sliced long-ways between two color bars, I knew you would before you did. I can often predict where you will attack for your gem. I've never felt anything else call to me so strongly. I feel like I understand the stones. At first I thought it was the mining, but who wants to do that, getting all hot and sweaty with dirt all down your neck, I mean, I do, but I'm not to physically capable any more. Once I saw you doing what you do, it screamed at me. That would be the solution. Become an opal cutter. Sit comfortably in a cool room and put on some music or a movie and just cut. All day. So thanks to you, that's what I'm doing. I have no money, but you have to start somewhere. So unfortunately I didn't buy anything off your site. Yet. I'm eyeing off that $1200 parcel you have. But I did bid on a few very small parcels on eBay for about $50 total, about 30 carats worth over 15 or so pieces. Some potential for some amazing color and some small ring or earring gems. I think I can pull it off. Realistically I'm not hopeful I will get a gem out of something so cheap and small or everyone would be doing it, but you have to start somewhere. It only takes that one gem to step up. I still have some polishing gear in my toolbox, a lovely 4000 grit stone, and I have access to a (genuine) Dremel with a lot of stones and discs and a felt wheel, and plenty of wet/dry paper and other stones lying around. I'm used to polishing hardened steel and using ceramic cutting tools, so I'm also familiar with diamonds and diamond wheels. If I can manage to cut and sell a few gems, i'll get some wheels for the grinder, and...grind...my way up. I really enjoy your content and have been watching a couple of your videos a day now for about a week. In a couple of weeks or so I will purchase your opal advice and share some photos, as I'd love to talk to about it. I want to know things like is it actually possible to get a gem or two starting small like me and build my way up, or do i realistically need to inject significant cash to get started...anyway, I shall find out when I pay you for it! Until then, I look forward to enjoying more of your content. Thank you.
Im laid in my hospital bed feeling a little bit sorry for myself. I feel like a pin cushion as nurses have prodded and poked me in the last few days but do you know what just watching you drag a small but beautiful gem out of a bit of broken rock well it hasnreally cheered me up. What did you say life cant always be rainbows and butterflies and thats so true. No matter what keep going as theres always someone worse off than you. Think possitive and be kind to others who may need your help. Gem looks wonderful Justin. Thanks for cheering me up x 😊

Thanks all at BOD, for the video. Glad you like the machine. The little opal is very pretty. Shame that it was cracked, but the salvage job on the remainder was terrific. Greetings from Dimboola, in Victoria.

I have the 8” cabking also. I can’t believe you’re using one, that’s awesome! I like how you can put a flat lap on the end, I swapped out or upgraded a few of the wheels. So far it’s performed flawlessly!
Man of the year!!!! award for the - looked at the instructions but really didn't have to. I know you only peeked at em as the missus was standing over your shoulder.
Hey that's the machine I bought! Great gear and I've had it for about a year, cutting Justin's rough. The two left wheels I use for cab-ing granite and hard stuff, and everything else for the opal rough. So fun to see it here, and validating to say the least. Greetings from Mike in Granby, Co. Thanks Justin and Co!
Honestly I love seeing you work with the quality of tools/materials/b.s. we get to deal with! It really shows how attainable this is and how much creative whim you get to use! Thanks and keep it up!
Cab king is the only cabbing machine I've ever used. It's frikken awesome! So easy to assemble, and break down for cleaning. Great machine! Looking forward to seeing #5 get a rub down. That's the one I voted for
Yes, Justin life has it ups and downs! In the end, you cut a beautiful little opal despite the pesky crack! You did very well, Justin 👏💎! Greetings and ❤ to all at BOD!
So cool, you've got the same CabKing that I have! For the price it's a fantastic machine, I'm sure you'll enjoy it and the customer service is top notch. I've been using mine for 6 years and except for changing to sintered wheels the only thing I've changed was the light (it wasn't bright enough for me). I've cut loads of opals on my machine and really like it. Some people have knocked it because it has a lot of plastic, but I honestly haven't found that to be a big issue. The places with plastic aren't leaned on, pushed on, etc. I also like the flat laps on the ends and the water system (although I did switch out the waste water lines that came with it and replaced them with heavier duty lines).
You'll love the Cabking. I've been using one for two years and love it. I just ordered some stuff today and then I saw your email. I have to call them tomorrow to see if they'll give me a 10% refund
A wonderful stone. Sorry about the crack, sometimes you just are surprised by what happens. You finished down with a really lovely stone. Keep having fun! 😷⚒
Justin, after you cut it and started talking about the stone I honestly thought you were going to break into the song "Always look on the bright side of life", yes I'm a Monty Python fan, but you take them in the chin like a champ and keep smiling. Never stop!
11:40 -12:06 thank you for those wise words...I'm always optimistic and looking on the bright side of things and was having a not so good day ...but said to my self everything will work out and put your Channel on to unwind ....just needed that reassurance. Great channel
Same machine I have in 6" and there is a saw attachment that I just used on boulder opal. I removed the roughest wheel, moved everything left 1, and added a 14k resin onto mine.
It wasn't the gem you were hoping for, but you stuck with it and still got a nice looking gem out of it. That will make somebody a piece of jewelry they will enjoy.
I’ve got a 6” cab king that I’ve had for many years. Havent set it up in my new place but after watching your videos I’m way more motivated. Would love to try some opal… maybe some day… lol.
You did a masterful job cutting and shaping the stone. I don't care for this type of opal but it didn't take away for your working the stone!! I enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
My dream is to afford the space, time, and money for a Cab King one day. ❤ Even though it wasn't the stone we thought it would be you still made it the very best stone it could be. I'm glad it came to your hands and was salvaged so beautifully.
I would say that your new machine is quite loud and combined with music pain in the ... ears ( for us with tinnitus) :-) You could filter that sound frequency easily...
Justin, you ended up with a beautiful stone despite its unfortunate fault. You just have a knack for creating beauty🙂 Congratulations on the new wheels🥰 I absolutely LOVE my Cab King and can't wait for the day i feel ready to cut some amazing Australian opal🙂
Wow man I cant wait to buy a parcel of rough opal from you considering other channels and websides for my opinión you always got the most beautiful ones keep doing that work family!🤘👌🤘
Still following your wonderful videos Jason .... it's great to see you so passionate and generously sharing your creations .... thanks thanks thanks! Great therapy for the weary! lol MQH from Georgian Bay, Ontario :-)
It still turned out lovely! You made it from a blob that no one could see its beauty within, to reveal a lovely colorful stone for someone to enjoy that may not have 1000s to spend! It will bring someone joy! Out of curiosity...with the color bar that thick, would it have been possible to slice it through the crack to save the color on both sides or was that a risk that the whole stone would splinter?
2:58 I would recommend to put some thick hard rubber (?) under the machine to reduce the vibration. Your work bench is acting like a speaker It is always difficult to get rid of the low tone. All is vibrating and spreading out the "BRRRRRR" Once I saw a generator in a big box in a factory Inside the box it was too loud without ear protection Outside the box it was fine The walls of the box were hollow and filled with many steel balls This balls took the energy of the vibrations
Hiya Justin, awesome video and no more rough sounding bearing, right mate? Anyway that's a beautiful crystal opal, I have cut a few of them, only because I can't afford any black opals. I have a crystal opal that has black mixed with the colour but it's still a crystal opal. I learned that from you mate. I hope you have a awesome blessed day. Cheers! Cya! 😺🐟 out!
Och, sorry I missed your live Justin.❤ Catching up now, beautiful new machine & gorgeous colour play in that Opal. ☆ Edit > still a beautiful Opal, great message at the end. Lovee from Scotland 😻🏴 🌠
Justin, don’t know if I ever told you, but…. Hello from Nebraska !!! LOL Anyways, I have questions for you mr. Opal ! The cab king you purchased, I’ve been considering one myself, so I am very pleased to hear a true professional give it a thumbs up. But hey, did you order new wheels for it ? Are you able to use the same wheels on the CK as on your other machine ? Or did you have to purchase proprietary wheels etc ? I’ve been eagerly waiting to see the new machine and all, and I am glad to have had the chance to see it in use. You guys rock ! Sir !!!
Yes I am using the old wheels but the new ones I will use once these are worn down. You just need extra sized spacers to make them aline with the waterflow
Thank you sir. I check you inventory of rough almost daily. Dreaming of the day I order some and start a new “adventure” of my own. Really wish I could go to Australia and meet you and visit some of the Opal fields in person. Maybe some day, but for now I get my fix on TH-cam lol. Have an excellent day sir
An honest question but is it possible to force the crack to give up with moisture and heat or freezing the stone to give you two pieces to work with or is this unfeasible or too risky of total loss of the piece?
Watching your videos a question came into my mind: what do you think about possible future technology of gem cutting? Will there be a way - a machine - to scan the uncut stones with every physical aspects and make an optimised calculation for either the best colors or the best value (if it is possible to make smaller but higher value stones). Or just make it possible to make a recording about every possible cut and angles before you even turn the wheels on. AAaaaand to make an automatised cut after watching the scanned images.
Liking when you focus on the opals, I don’t like all of the chatting involved with people from everywhere, although it’s cool for you… just takes away from the opal essence. This vid is badass nuf said 🤠🤙🏽
It just helps with the algorithm so more people get alerted about the video at the time. So please be patient or watch after the live or skip to where you want to see. That's the beauty of TH-cam. you do watch however you want, skip what you want without having to complain
It may be a smaller stone, but it’s got a big punch of color in it. I have a question the crystal opal I own I was always told you have to be very nice to them because they’re brittle and they scratch easily. Is that true? Thank you, Kathy.
The new machine looks amazing but I wonder what machine would be good for someone who starts out? Are there any machines like that under the 1000$/€ price tag?
Hi Justin, new machine looks great! What’s your opinion of the stock electroplated diamond and resin wheels that came with the arbor? I’m seriously considering upgrading from my ancient cabbing machine and am curious to know how well they might hold up over time. (I’m guessing you swapped out the stock electroplated diamond wheels and perhaps the resin wheels with ones you already owned.)
Yes they won’t last as long as a Sintered wheel but they are great until they wear out. You get a few years out of them if you just cut opal and not things like agate
Justin, I like watching for and watching your videos! Thanks much for sharing them! Is it your iPhone that’s picking up the sound of the machines? If so, there’s nothing you can do to clean that out once the phone has picked it up. You’ll have to go with a dedicated camera only, if you’re wanting a really noise free production. Cheers!
@@blackopaldirect, again, the iPhone is picking up sound that cannot be edited out, I’m very, very sorry to say. If you could switch to a color only camera with no microphone, then mix in the audio, that would be a winning solution. Cheers!
@@bundy9236, I’m looking at this from the prospective of being a sound man and trying to eliminate external sounds when Justin is speaking. I’m an electronics man and try to help fix things. Sorry.
@@blackopaldirect, in electronics, the waveform of the sound coming from the mic on the machine, added to its inverse, will cancel each other out (mostly). The microphone in the iPhone (used to provide video of your work) cannot be used because it there’s no adjusting it, which is why you’ll need a camera without a microphone. This is how news broadcasters do it. It’s how the background echo is canceled out.
Justin sir, I respect your opinion as a professional. I have finally saved enough money to invest in a cabbing machine and the Cab King is my #1 choice, it may be a 6” set though. But I do have a question, would you, as a professional, use the polishing pad they have attached to the machine ? Would you make a video maybe with a not so valuable piece of Opal showing us polishing it on the cab king ? Thank you in advance for any advice.
I fell off my chair when I saw your new cab king. I have been using one just like yours for the last eight years. I’ve cut every stone I got from you on my cab king. It’s a wonderful machine and your videos are wonderful as well. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. Bill from Ohio.

Nice set up. Least you got a stone out of it.
Got to have my dose of Justin.
😎😎😎👍👍👍
I have exactly the same model as that. It works very well for me.

The stone turned out very nice. Im betting its 10x prettier with a high polish. Will we see that? ❤
Cheers! Cya!
😺🐟 out!
Thank you Yes the bearing was noisy. This machine is quieter when I get it fine tuned. I did have my mic setup properly
I would love the tiny piece that broke of😍😍btw i LOVE your videos🤩
Love the videos, that cab king was much louder than the other machine(s) you’ve used though. Made it hard to watch.
Good ROI by Cab King this promotional video.
If you’re doing soft stones like Ethiopian opal I think a pixie would be great especially if you travel with a cabbing machine
@blackopaldirect Thanks for these great videos. What wheel grain do you use on the 6 wheels please?
Och, sorry I missed your live Justin.❤ Catching up now, beautiful new machine & gorgeous colour play in that Opal.
☆ Edit > still a beautiful Opal, great message at the end. Lovee from Scotland 😻🏴 🌠
All good Suzy than you for the support
cab king didnt see that coming!😉
It's still a beautiful gem!
First! Yaaaayyyy!!!🎉 shame about the crack, but still a stunning gem!

Terima kasih telah berbagi video untuk kami
It's still a beautiful Opal ! Thank you Justin for sharing it with me !
Glad you enjoyed it Steve
@@blackopaldirect It's always a pleasure watching you bring the beauty out of stone into a beautiful Opal ! I'm watching from Kansas !
Love from a Brit in Austria 😘
Justin, don’t know if I ever told you, but….
Hello from Nebraska !!!
LOL
Anyways, I have questions for you mr.
Loved as always
Still a cracking adventure
Liking when you focus on the opals, I don’t like all of the chatting involved with people from everywhere, although it’s cool for you… just takes away from the opal essence. This vid is badass nuf said 🤠🤙🏽
It just helps with the algorithm so more people get alerted about the video at the time. So please be patient or watch after the live or skip to where you want to see. That's the beauty of TH-cam. you do watch however you want, skip what you want without having to complain
It is one heck of a beautiful $600 gem.
It may be a smaller stone, but it’s got a big punch of color in it.
I have a question the crystal opal I own I was always told you have to be very nice to them because they’re brittle and they scratch easily. Is that true? Thank you, Kathy.
The new machine looks amazing
but I wonder what machine would be good for someone who starts out? Are there any machines like that under the 1000$/€ price tag?
Hi Justin, new machine looks great!
What’s your opinion of the stock electroplated diamond and resin wheels that came with the arbor?
I’m seriously considering upgrading from my ancient cabbing machine and am curious to know how well they might hold up over time.
(I’m guessing you swapped out the stock electroplated diamond wheels and perhaps the resin wheels with ones you already owned.)
Yes they won’t last as long as a Sintered wheel but they are great until they wear out. You get a few years out of them if you just cut opal and not things like agate
it was still beautiful!
Thank you
Justin, I like watching for and watching your videos! Thanks much for sharing them!
Is it your iPhone that’s picking up the sound of the machines? If so, there’s nothing you can do to clean that out once the phone has picked it up. You’ll have to go with a dedicated camera only, if you’re wanting a really noise free production.
Cheers!
Yes I have a seperate DJI mic setup and just have to work on making it better
@@blackopaldirect, again, the iPhone is picking up sound that cannot be edited out, I’m very, very sorry to say.
If you could switch to a color only camera with no microphone, then mix in the audio, that would be a winning solution.
Cheers!
@@bundy9236, I’m looking at this from the prospective of being a sound man and trying to eliminate external sounds when Justin is speaking. I’m an electronics man and try to help fix things. Sorry.
@@jmikronis7376 I hear you and thank you for the help. The problem is the mic is close to my face and the machine so it pics up both
@@blackopaldirect, in electronics, the waveform of the sound coming from the mic on the machine, added to its inverse, will cancel each other out (mostly).
Rainbows and butterflies! That's pretty funny. Isn't it true in life though?
May not be what you were hoping for. But it is still a real pretty stone.
