Thanks for this video. It really helped me understand my daughter’s reading. Turns out she is doing good in her reading. I cannot wait to show her this video. Also, thanks for the helpful info and resources.
Thanks for the video and sharing the free K5 resource. I'm teaching my 5 year old to read. We are homeschooling, so I guess level isn't as a big a deal... but at what point are kids supposed to be on 1st grade level? Is it when starting first grade or at the end of 1st grade?
This has been very helpful and encouraging so thank you and your daughter for taking the time out to make the video. New subbie here 💖. Also, please don't mind mind some of the rude comments on here. You did great and it was very informative! I'll be checking out the resources you've provided.
Thank you!! Would this be more where your child should be towards the end of first grade? My son is a may baby (currently 6) and we are just starting first grade this upcoming school year.
This is more inline with how you should expect your 1st grader to read during the end of 1st grade. I homeschool and use a pretty advance curriculum and this is inline with what to expect of a rising 2nd grader.
I need to print this out and try it with my son. He’s turning 5 in Jan (adjusted age) but he was due in March (premie 10 weeks) … is it too soon to try this? He reads flash cards.. he’s got that toy that reads the card and has a sound bite to go with it.. he reads the cards by itself without inserting them into the device.. so I’m trying to figure where his reading level is. He can read the 5 word sentences.. it’s those learn to read ABC levels. Level A which is like 3 words then level b which is like 4 or 5.. etc etc.. he has not gone to any school he was born right when COVID hit and shut everything down so he’s been a home body much of his life.. I’m nervous about sending him to school now..
@@Songbird97 I chose not to send mine to school but we get together with kids from church and other homeschoolers. As far as reading a good test is to print off a list of nonsense words to see if he can read or decode them. In other words he can sound them out even though he hasn’t memorized them. I have a video on nonsense words if you want to check it out.
You'll have to remind me what part you're talking about. It's been a while since I made this, and I can't sit and watch the entire thing to find the part to which you're referring. Thanks.
Yes so confused we are doing private school this year but will switch to homeschool next year. So many different different materials public seems to teach different than homeschool. How do I I know they are on their level? Thanks
This is when she was in first grade and she has a Nov. birthday, so she is older in her grade and had lots of exposure to reading being the third child in a homeschool environment. Many first graders aren't *quite* to that level at that point in the year so it should be ok as long as you are moving forward in progressing.
@@alexgibb8406 Ok. I'm still trying to understand. The "she" in "she thinks" is referring to whom? As far as the story, it is a "first grade level story." That being said, she was fluent and somewhat advanced. I probably said that somewhere in the video. I'd have to rewatch. Levels are arbitrary. It's a comparison of data with a bunch of children. Someone picked it at some point and said, "That's first grade. That's second grade," and so on.
@@TheParentTeacherBridge You don't take constructive criticism very well do you? Surely you realize that a 17 minute video is not easy to watch when you have 6-year-olds running around. Please don't get me wrong, I really appreciate your attempt, however a nice tight informative package is definitely super helpful.
You answered so many of my questions
Great! Feel free to ask me anything. I need to get back to doing videos.
This showed me how behind my son is in reading. I really got start working with him more.
Sight words help soo much

Great job, Everly!
Thanks, was looking for books to read with my 6 year old, and that website is very good!

Such a helpful video. Thank you!!

I believe I said in the video she is probably advanced for that time.
It says around minute 2 that this is a first grade passage and that there are multiple sub-levels within first grade because kids grow so much.
Top right corner says it's level E
@@TheParentTeacherBridge ok I understand that! the resources you shared are definitely helpful! seems my son is at level B

Are you asking about the curriculum on level or the children on level?
Their reading level public seems so different I just don’t want them behind
How old is the girl? My son just turned 6. So want to gauge his progress.

This is advanced first?! Your video title is misleading.
What do you mean? Can you please explain? Can you also please explain what you are looking for?

Minute 1:48 I actually state that she is a very good reader.
Why not break it into quarters of proficiency.
As people visiting here will also have different levels of the same journey
Could have been more to the point
Eh. Fast Forward works just fine. Connect me to all the videos you have done perfectly. :)
