Armando Peraza, absolute master of the conga. As Carlos once said " When he puts his hand to the the conga, that's Africa talking to you " No better tribute
SO GOOD! Santana is the definition of "jam band." I respect my Dead Head friends, and I know music is not a competition, but Santana has spoiled me. Everything is so tight, so heartfelt, so spiritual. This is soul music. Viva Santana!
Effing AWESOME!! This is what you get when you get the best in their musical field. An out of this world jam! Chester Thompson is the BEST high velocity player ever. All of his notes are full of burning energy. As Raul Rekow. He plays intensely through the WHOLE show! Imagine how many calories he burned in one show. They all give their all out best. And it shows. WOW!!

Chester was also super awesome with my no.1 band...Tower of Power. He is part of the original sound of TOP. Contributed to some of their greatest songs. Note for note, he is the best full force energy playing keyboardist.
Chester Thompson is my favorite keyboardist.
Cool ! Saw Armando in the 1970s .I walked in with hot pink-purple maracas.ARMANDO was on the way down a staircase in front of me to the left.He Saw THE MARACAS and said " Your maracas are the same color as our light show ! " COOL ...Anyway I played my maracas in the audience along with Carlos Santana and everyone there. I did not stop the entire concert. A few audience members said to me"' Could you quit playing those maracas ?!? They are SO LOUD ! " I FELT ENERGIZED AND NEVER DID STOP PLAYING THEM AND DID NOT COMMENT BACK. NO ONE IN SECURITY EVER APPROACHED ME. OR said ANYTHING to me about my maracas.THE 70s you never knew what was going to happen at a concert except you could count on some of the audience members passing rolled up smoke quickly to their right...away from security view. I had gone to the concert that night alone with a sense of knowing that I was supposed to be THERE. In my later years I did discover that I can read vibrations and I am a teacher with teachers in upligting others in positive thought. I guess Armando taught me the first thing I have told some OTHERS "IN LIFE TRUST YOURSELF. ALWAYS TRUST YOURSELF FIRST ! " DO NOT KNOW WHY I HAD TO PUT THE WORD ALWAYS ON THAT. WHEN I SPOKE THOSE WORDS TO A NEW YOUNG LADY FRIEND SHE RESONATED WITH THAT SO CLEARLY AND STRONG AND WHOLE HEARTEDLY SHE DID AGREE . NO ONE CAN STOP PURE POSITIVE HIGHER VIBRATIONS AND YES ITS BEEN 40 YEARS SO WHICH ONE IS AND WHERE IS ARMANDO WITH THESE SANTANA VIDEOS ? HE PLAYED BONGOS AND CONGAS I AM SURE HE IS DELIGHTED THAT HE HAS SO MUCH INFLUENCE TO INSPIRE OTHERS STILL. MY MARACAS FROM MEXICO FINALLY BIT THE DUST AND MY DREAM IS TO HAVE ANOTHER PAIR OF MARACAS ONE DAY THAT SAME COLOR. THEY EACH HAD A DIFFERENT SOUND! LOVE TO ALL ! THANKS CARLOS. WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU !
C.J. O'Dell I didn't know Raul was gone.....damn. Met him and Karl at a drum clinic at Guitar Center round 04. They both were so mellow, kicked it with us after clinic was over, talked about life, music, skins and sticks. He will be missed, Thank you Lord for the time you BLESSED us with him. This is why every good musician should be video taped all the time. .
Chester Thompson (keyboards) and Tony Lindsay (vocals and percussion) were guests on two Santana concerts on the Shoreline Amphitheater on 27 and 28 august 2024 (also with Michael Carabello on congas next to timbalero Karl Perazzo) to play "Savor" and "Toussaint L'Overture".
There is or was no band , which had drums, percussions and rhythm like Carlos Santana and Band like this one ! I saw them live in ARUBA in the late 1980s or early 1990s at the Latin Jazz Festival. Tremendous !!!
I'm in my sixties I Had my share of concerts and seen the evolution of music from the 60's and in my opinion there nobody who plays jams like Santana! All the different instruments are played beautifully ! Santana is an Experience! He getting up there in age so anybody who wants to experience true Soul Music Rythum Beat! You owe to yourself to see Santana ! Especially if the Concert is outdoors! Santana embodies the Latino Hispanic Chicano Soul! I so glad that I had the pleasure to experience it and enjoy his unique music!@@
Any idea how long those guys played with the Santana band? I know I saw them at least twice in Illinois at poplar creek music theatre. Which is no longer there.

My favorite members of santana. All the members in this video where the perfect santana group. The only other person I would have added to this group was Chepito Areas. :)

Santana always found the finest percussionists throughout its history. I love my fellow Cubanos, Armando Peraza and Orestes Vilato.
🇺🇲🥁🇨🇺
So true, those guys and so much now Raul Rekow.
SO GOOD! Santana is the definition of "jam band." I respect my Dead Head friends, and I know music is not a competition, but Santana has spoiled me. Everything is so tight, so heartfelt, so spiritual. This is soul music. Viva Santana!
Truer words have never been spoken!

Totally agree- Wh\at good is jam if it doesn't actually have groove and rhythm?
i'm looking at you Phish....
😊I concur my friend 😮
I've seen Santana play so many times, Raul's passing was like a missing piece he was always there.
Still fresh after 50 plays !!

Hands down.
07:20 ...That percussion section hits you and takes you over like a TRAIN!!!
There all great but man Chester Thompson is the best I ever seen on the B3 he is a monster player.🎹🎼🎹🎼🎹
As a B3 player of some 50 years I 100 % agree… it is as if Laurens Hammond knew CT was on his way when he came up with the B3
Timbalero Oreste Vilato arguably the best in the world .
Best band ever put together skilled musicians rip Raul
And RIP Armando
I was blessed to watch this up close many times.
They were and are all brilliant. RIP Armandito and Raulito!
Orestes, Armando and Raul are pure rhythm music mathematicians.

Chester Thompson is truly one of the greatest keyboardists I’ve ever known!
