video about filtering is recorded, but im in holland right now for two weeks, and after that i have to go for 2 weeks of quarantine. So 4 weeks at least until I upload it :(
Thank you but how do you get the “VODKA” flavor. It always comes out tasting the same no matter what I use. It always tastes like “moonshine”. The only thing I’ve found that makes a difference is Artichokes Using them with sugar and water and no enzymes makes the distillate taste like tequila. The other thing is adding juniper berries to the distillate and running it through again. That flavors it like Gin. The other thing I question is Why do you steam the potatoes. I just chop them up and boil them. Then mash them right into the water I boiled them in. Then I pulverize them with a blender. I always add about twice as much sugar by weight as potatoes or fruit. Whatever I’m using at the time. I’ve tried them both ways. With and without enzymes and I find the enzymes make the distillate bitter and less smooth. There is definitely less flavor when I use enzymes. The percent alcohol is about the same it just takes a couple days more to ferment into alcohol. Just my experience. Let me know your thoughts.
Hi, sorry you are not getting very good results, you are right, vodka and shine are different, I found that Still Spirits vodka yeast gave me a really good result, shine has all the flavour stripped out which is the idea being as a pure spirit is wanted but vodka can have flavour and using the right yeast is the answer. If you use a sugar wash then after distilling you need to run it through some activated charcoal then filter that to really clean it up because no matter how pure the run it still has off flavours you don't want. If I'm trying to teach you how to suck eggs then my bad.
Hi, I have read through all the comments and replies but still confused when the next video will be uploaded please? My still should be delivered next week so keen to get going with this! Excellent video by the way and thanks for uploading, much appreciated 👍
I add barley malt because it has beta-amylase enzymes. Extract or sugar doesn't have it. You can use some beta-amylase / gluco-amylase enzyme instead of barley malt.
My friend, I made vodka at home and it drips, but is cloudy, and the percentage of alcohol is 10%. Does the temperature of the house affect that? Give me advice, I wish you good luck
i think your mash might have not enaught alcohol. Once i got same situation, than i just distill it fully, and than second distilation cut head and tails
Awesome video. I've just one question. Why do you add barley malt to the mix, when you've already added alfa-amylase enzyme, I'll specify. I know that barley malt contains beta-amylase enzymes, but is there any difference to not using barley malt?
Exacly - Barley malt contain Beta-amylase enzymes which turn potato starches into fermentated sugar. If you dont want to use barley malt, you can buy beta-amylase in small bottles. If you don't use it at all, you will recive less alcohol as a finall product
Looks more like potato soup. Maybe that's how people originally realized potatoes could become alcohol. Someone left their potato porridge/soup out too long. :)
there is no part 2. YOu can find on my channel video about how to filter this mash, and you can also find 2 videos about how to distill it. In those videos im destiling wine, but its the same process with potato mash
@@surveyengineer2372 I distill it twice. I don't use any carbon filters, but you can do it - it will kill potato taste and make it more smooth. If you distill it on the column than you dont need filter. If you use pot still than its up to you
bro instead of using all of these ingredients and boiling process why don't you blend the raw potatoes in blender then add water then add sugar then add yeast and let ferment for 2 days you will get fine product to distill
I thought you needed the cooking temperature, to get the enzymes' to work. Your method doesn't add any malt or enzymes, so wondering how much of your potatoes starch is actually being used by the yeast, if not converted to sugar first? I did try a wash with near raw potatoes once, and no malt etc, and as a result got a very low alcohol wash, and not much product from distilling.
Who knew potato soup could turn into something more tasty.
Potato vodka better than fries. Corn moonshine better than popcorn :P
