If you do that and the weld brakes, the gears will just free wheel and spin like it’s an open diff again. It can also be re-welded if the way you’ve done it breaks the whole carriers toast that’s why you don’t weld over the teeth.
@@AA-tb4ff if your weld breaks 1. It wasn’t hot enough and you didn’t get enough penetration 2. You didn’t weld it thoroughly enough to distribute the load 3. You didn’t do a good enough job. Once you weld a diff it’s not gonna be reverted back to stock that is permanent, and if anything breaks it’s gonna be the ring and pinion at which that point it’s still gonna free wheel. But if whatever you did is strong enough to break the ring and pinion then you have other bigger issues
@@skid_valve If you weld the two side gears to the carrier with out welding over the teeth and the weld breaks it will just crack down the weld letting the gears spin and yes revert right back to a working open differential. But if it’s welded good it won’t break, you ll break axle shafts before the weld breaks. Also the amount of heat you put into those gears and carrier weakens them
Nice video. I'm welding my diff this weekend so this is perfect
just weld the two side gears to the carrier and not over the teeth.
@@AA-tb4ffwhy it’s not gonna hurt it and will help spread the load out
