  • I have been able to achieve clinical and endoscopic remission from Ulcerative Colitis by nutritionally optimizing my gut microbiome. Soluble fiber has been a big part of optimizing the gut microbiome for me. Here is the science as to why it's helpful, and why other types of fiber may cause issues when healing.

      @@suhailansari4686 48 hours raw milk kefir, the last 24 hours of fermentation I add an apple, banana and a date, and before consuming I add colostrum, cinnamon, blueberries and emu oil.
      I started fermenting my own veggies, such as white and red cabbage, garlic, carrots, etc. Chicken soup which I cook together with carrots, courgette, onions, garlic and leak. I eat the fermented veggies as a sidedish on on lunch and dinner.
      I take diatomatious earth, activated charcoal, oregano extract and a table spoon of raw honey before going to bed. I also had some Pau d'Arco tea but no longer have been drinking it.
      You have to do this 3 things:
      - Stop injuring the gut: do not over eat, or eat gut irritating foods;
      - Kill infection: Oregano oil, Pau d'Arco tea, Activated charcoal, diatomateous earth, raw honey;
      - Nourish the gut: Kefir, fermented foods, emu oil, bone broth/chicken soup.
      I also take cold pressed cod liver oil from time to time.

You back up your claims with a lot of scientific studies. I am sure that one day the whole GI doctors will turn to you and apply your theory to cure the whole population suffering from IBD. You’re a saviour from heaven. Keep going bro.. May god bless you.

      @Steve Kelly you're right. I wasn't trying to demonize. And I completely agree with you that good doctors exist just like in every field. My first comment is influenced by my personal experience with a recent GI doctor so my comment is very biased. the fist GI doctor I went to was a whole different story and very helpful/kind/right intentions.

    • @stazzeldskater

    Fantastic video Kenny - you the man! Love how you bring up the importance of prebiotic fibre in feeding probiotic organisms. The majority of people out there are unaware of prebiotic foods and think that consuming large amounts of probiotics by themselves is going to solve the problem. For anyone out there who wants to know one of the best soluble prebiotics, look up slippery elm powder, that stuff quite literally massages your insides

    • @RONINCLAN
      @RONINCLAN 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Crohn's Colitis Vitality just a warning to anyone looking to use slippery elm - I've relied heavily on it for months and it helped so much. However every brand I've tried has seemingly changed their formula lately. It smells , tastes and looks different to the stuff that used to help. Now everytime I have it I'm in the most painful flare for days. So be careful when starting slippery elm!

    • @RONINCLAN
      @RONINCLAN 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A G I'm not sure either mate. The good stuff used to be very hard to mix in water and made a strong, stretchy gel. New stuff just mixes in like paste.
      Sounds crazy but it makes a big difference to sore intestines. It's made from the inner gel of tree bark so I assume there is room for a lot of variation there

I will never charge for information, I will only charge for my time. Basically the idea is to provide all of the information I can to my channel so people can heal themselves (much like you are doing), but if they want one on one direction or just to pick my brain about something, then I will charge for giving them my time. I came across your channel after following heal your gut guy, I’ve basically sat down and watched one of his 1 hour videos for him to just turn around and withhold the answer at the end of the video because he wanted people to pay, I was so pissed, that’s not fair, people are sick and in desperate need and when there isn’t any other help available anything is a blessing really, I’ve felt like he was taking advantage of the situation and that’s not right. But following your channel has helped me tremendously you won’t even imagine how much❤️ thank you for taking the time and helping us, I understand that what you do is very time consuming and it takes a lot of skills, effort and researches, I also understand that you need to make some kind of monetary income out of it, but the way you go about it’s what makes all the difference🙏🏽 thank you ❤️❤️ greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭 🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️

    I think this is correct. I have been struggling with constipation for years, so about a years ago I started to eat lots of leafy greens (probably like 4x amount of my normal leafy green intake), the result? I got joint pains and skin rashes, I believe it is auto immune response.
    Started about a month ago I decided to stop eating leafy greens and ate sweet potatoes, chayote, papaya. The joint pain and skin rashes reduced significantly.
    I believe that insoluble fibers irritated my gut lines, they made friction with the intestine.

    I’ve managed to heal myself previously but fell back in to old habits rather than adopt the ‘lifestyle’. So... I know it works but I think that covering the setbacks/stages of healing would be really beneficial.

      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dates are mostly soluble fiber if I remember correctly. And I'm sorry, my intention was not to scare you away from vegetables haha. I'm no doctor, so this is all just my personal opinion and shouldn't be taken as medical advice. That being said, as far as I know, roughage really only comes from leafy greens and a few other sources. Most things that people think are vegetables are actually botanically classified as fruits like zucchinis, squash, and avocado. Carrots and similar root vegetables fall into the tuber category. So there are still tons of options out there!

  • @JetSetBaroni
    @JetSetBaroni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wonder what is a conservative number of days a person with Chrons or Colitis should stay on a healing diet before reintroducing "roughage"? Perhaps 30 days? 45 days? 60 days? Sure, every body is different but there has to be a number that will work for most who have this condition. I think the first time I attempted the healing diet it was around 60 days before I felt like sufficient healing had occurred. Unfortunately I didn't know much about probiotics so I had to revisit the Healing Diet several times before I found something that would work.

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question. I'm not sure I know the answer to that one. I guess it assumes how consistent a person is with following the protocol and how fast they see results. I personally wouldn't eat roughage until I was at least around 80-90% healed, but you're right, that could be a different amount of time for everyone. Hope you're doing well!

    Hey Kenny!
    Very well done!
    I wanted to ask you: So when you readded meat into your diet, you also added salt at the sama time, right? So, Do you think that the salt you then readded to your diet was a reason to slow down the growth of benificial bacteria?
    Or did you find that the use of "natural2 salt was not an inhibtor of your gut microbiom to rebalance?
    I ask because in your bootcamp you do not use salt and you also do not use salt in your fermented veggies, but I think in realilty you did you salt when you reintroduced meat and so on, right?
    I´d liek to know because I started to reintroduce meat and want to start on the fermented veggies soon, but was wondering if the use of natural salt would be wise to do ???

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you! You always ask great questions that I have to think about before answering haha. While making my boot camp series I didn't use salt because I did not use it when I was healing due to what I was told from High Carb Health. They don't like salt when healing. However, since doing some more research and evolving my protocol, I am a big fan of good quality pink Himalayan or Celtic salt. I definitely would use it in my healing phase if I could start over. Guys like Jordan Rubin and Mike HYGG used good salts. Now, for the fermented vegetables I would still do unsalted just because the probiotic bacteria count is supposed to be higher and more diverse since it doesn't have any salt to inhibit the growth. Just makes it a more powerful probiotic. However, I don't think that putting some salt on your food or meals will be enough salt to kill or significantly reduce the probiotic bacteria that you eat from the unsalted fermented vegetables. So salt you eat in small increments shouldn't affect the probiotics you eat from the unsalted fermented vegetables, but if you were to use salt while fermenting the vegetables, it would be enough salt to inhibit the growth of some of that bacteria since the vegetables are literally just sitting in a salty brine for a week.
      That's just my take. However, I don't think that making fermented vegetables with salt is the worst thing in the world. I just think it might be a little lower in probiotic bacteria than unsalted fermented vegetables would be. But the main point is that any type of fermented vegetable (salt or no salt) is better than not eating fermented vegetables.
      Hope that helps!

    Hmmm I disagree about the cabbage. I have severe leaky gut and cabbage & Iceberg lettuce has helped me a lot!

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? Well I'm definitely glad they are helping you! I consume spinach, cabbage, arugula, and other leafy greens very regularly now and have no issues. However, leaky gut is different than UC, there is a completely different level of inflammation and symptoms that come with it. When I was still very sick leafy greens were one of the fastest ways to exacerbate UC. Nonetheless, I'm surprised to hear that cabbage and lettuce have helped you out so much. I'm curious, what does a typical day in your diet look like? I'm wondering if the combination of what you regularly eat has helped you reverse leaky gut to a level where roughage is not a negative but rather a positive, similar to the way it is for me now? Very interesting! Hope you are doing well

    • @mauriciocordoba952
      @mauriciocordoba952 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@team_honnas Hi, yes so a bit of background I also suffer from UC, I do not take medication for it. However, I currently manage it just with diet and low stress levels. My last flare was a year ago (and lasted 6 months), I was medicated before that but i decided to stop taking medications and fix it the natural way because the status quo was worse than death (accepting your death at 25 is so fun). I changed my diet, life (i quit my job), just about everything but nothing changed, It was only after I was diagnosed with HSV1 and I did a one-week cycle of the anti-viral valaciclovir that the bleeding stopped. I know there was a correlation between a viral infection (CMV or HSV) and my UC flare (I've heard several stories of other people that had a false negative for tests of the Herpes family and their Crohn's or UC improve after taking an anti-viral medication - even some stories of BPA or metal toxicity in the form of dental devices but that was not my case and it is a completely different topic). But after I stopped bleeding I noticed that I was getting a lot of viral skin infections that usually only kids and the elderly get, I was always tired and bloated and I also had a diagnosis of Eczema (atopic dermatitis). The interesting thing is that Eczema is TH2 dominant (and UC has TH2 dominance traits as well, unlike Crohns which is TH1 dominant) - knowing about TH1 and TH2 dominance changed my life. At that time I was always bloated and felt like a fart machine, I had no social life and couldn't even find the motivation to get a job. I found a girl TH-camr that knows how to heal eczema through healing leaky gut (leaky gut manifests as eczema in some people, as food particles reach the bloodstream and the skin becomes the excretion/detox organ) so I am following her protocol and killing two birds with one stone. I am no longer bloated and my eczema is almost gone (this is just two weeks into the diet). So what I eat (90% of it is organic): Iceberg Lettuce, cabbage, sweet potatoes, Flax Oil, Shiitake Mushrooms, homemade chicken bone broth (i just add salt to it). This makes me calorie deficit but I can start introducing foods slowly. Healing leaky gut happens in stages and the foods allowed in each stage change considerably and depending if the person is TH1 or TH2 dominant. I have a severe milk protein intolerance so using kefir to heal was never an option for me, even probiotics cultured in milk have negative effects on me. I've heard stories of people that juice cabbage and it works for them, there must be something in cabbage that is good for some people, but I can totally understand how the fiber in it could negatively affect someone. For example I once had 1/2 tsp of psyllum and it KILLED ME (make my leaky gut and eczema worse), but some people that are not having a Crohn's flare say it works for them (which makes sense because psyllum i think makes people that are TH1 dominant more TH2 dominant so they become balanced, the opposite happens with flax seeds). I know that is way more information than the one you asked for, but it is very important for me that people know that bacterial and fungal infections in the gut are not the only ones that cause a flare, viral infections in the body also cause flares and no one really talks about it. But also having a bad diet is the main culprit, because if the diet is good the immune system is good, and no infection should happen, and if it does happen the body should fix it smoothly. I don't think there is a perfect diet, there is only the IDEAL diet for YOU in this SPECIFIC MOMENT of your life. Even health foods can be good for some people but terrible for others, or maybe terrible for you right now but not 3 months from now. So I totally understand the fact that you chose to avoid cabbage for so long.

      I'm definitely not a doctor, so everything I say is just my personal opinion and should not be taken as medical advice. That being said, I do think that over time soluble fiber does help the colon to heal. There are things that can slow or prevent this from happening, such as having rampant infections, SIBO, or out of control candida. However, with the appropriate steps I do think it can all be resolved. I'd be careful with quinoa personally and make sure it's been sprouted before I consume it. Makes it way easier to digest. Not sure about the soluble fiber content. Will have to double check. Hope you are doing well!

    Hi, great video man. Are you saying the fruits should be cooked or does raw fruit contain the same benefit?

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm definitely no doctor, so everything I say is simply my personal opinion and shouldn't be taken as medical advice. That being said, the idea isn't that fruits need to be cooked or not cooked. The idea is that leafy greens like lettuce, spinach, kale, and cabbage leaves are made up mainly of insoluble fiber, with little to no soluble fiber. Because of this, leafy greens fall under the classification of "roughage". Roughage can be very irritating to people with IBD that are very inflamed. So the big idea is to avoid roughage, and instead opt for foods that have a better mix of soluble and insoluble fiber like fruits and tubers. Soluble fiber solubilizes with water and makes almost a soothing type viscous gel, so it doesn't bother people as much as insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber is also often prebiotic, meaning it is great for the gut microbiome.

      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm no doctor, so all of this is just my personal opinion and shouldn't be taken as medical advice. That being said, I personally try to consume soluble fiber from whole foods. However, I've taken psyllium husk and other fiber supplements like slippery elm before to help alleviate inflammation. Those types of supplements aren't fermented in the same way that other forms of soluble fiber that are found in fruits and tubers are fermented. Those two specific supplements are really viscous and are not readily fermented so they don't modulate the gut microbiome quite as well. But I do think they can be beneficial for bulking up stool, increasing regularity, and helping to sooth the digestive tract so I'm not against them. A combination of eating soluble fiber from fruits and tubers and then a good OTC fiber supplement could be really cool.

      Hi Danielle, thank you for your kind words and for watching my videos. I do think there are some benefits to the carnivore diet, however it really is just an elimination diet that is as, if not more, confining and restrictive than a vegan diet. I wasn't satisfied with being confined to only being able to eat a few things, I wanted to be able to eat everything, at the very least in moderation. I will do a video on the carnivore diet in the future as I think it's an important topic. I don't see an issue personally with using the carnivore diet in the beginning and then slowly adding in plant based foods as the body starts to heal, but I don't think it's a good idea long term. Hope that helps! Will be praying for your recovery

    Hi my friend, have you treated Candida and other bad fungus/bacteria before reversing UC?

      I'm definitely no doctor, so everything I say is simply my personal opinion and shouldn't be taken as medical advice. That being said, I never had a bad case of candida or anything like sibo that I'm aware of. I didn't take antibiotics while in the hospital so that most likely saved me from a greater likelihood of developing those added issues. I also did some things at the very beginning of trying to heal that I think would have gone a long way towards correcting those issues. I juiced cabbage for 30 days. It's got some anti-microbial compounds that I believe help with all of that, including sibo due to the fiber being removed. Not entirely, sure. Am still looking into it!

    Is soluble fiber better for chronic erosive gastritis? I had an organic yellow apple last year, and it just sat in my stomach and intestines, landing me in the ER with hypertension. I can’t digest even organic raw foods as it hurts and irritates my gastritis and intestines.

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm no doctor, so this is just my personal opinion. So yes, I personally think soluble fiber is better than insoluble fiber. However, some people can be so inflamed that eating soluble fiber (which always comes packaged with insoluble fiber) can cause a ton of issues. All fiber might be too tough depending on the person. I think that in those scenarios I would juice cabbage and drink 32oz a day like I did before I started the high carb health vegan healing diet. I haven't made a video about it, but that is going to be the next one! Cabbage juice can help heal ulcers and reverse inflammation and it is an anti-fungal. Drinking that for a few weeks should hopefully heal the body enough to the point it can handle soluble fiber foods like fruits and tubers without causing horrible reactions. Alternatively, mike the heal your gut guy has very low fiber protocols that I believe can also help in a stage like the one you are describing.

      If consuming hard to digest foods (e.g. apples and raw foods) cause such severe problemes. I highly recommend sticking to easy to digest and nourishing foods like bone broth, raw milk, ... You can try adding some inulin powder (= soluble fiber) to your water. start with small amounts and increase consumption over time ;-)

    Should I be eating prebiotic soluble fiber with probiotics? I was told to take probiotics on an empty stomach.

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm no doctor, so this is just my personal opinion rather than medical advice. That being said, I think it depends on whether or not the probiotic is a supplement or not. If I'm consuming probiotics in the form of fermented vegetables or raw milk kefir than I eat it with prebiotic soluble fiber, and when the two are consumed together they form what is called a synbiotic. I think that's the best way to do it. If you're taking a supplement I'd probably follow whatever the directions on the bottle are and then when just make sure to include prebiotic soluble fiber in my meals when I do eat. Hope you're doing well!

      Hi Gio, I'm definitely not a doctor so please do not take my following response as medical advice. I recommend that you consult with your doctor and get your doctor's approval before implementing any dietary or lifestyle changes with the intent to treat an illness so that they can point out any possible pitfalls or dangers that you or I do not see. That being said, I do think that following the general principles outline in the video above can be beneficial for improving the symptoms of IBD. As for the pre-cancerous cells, I have no idea if there will be any effect on those due to the different types of fiber. That's a good thing to talk to your doctor about. However, there is a popular health podcaster named Ben Greenfield who has an extensive resource list for fighting cancer that you might find interesting that is free to download here: bengreenfieldfitness.com/cancer-resources/. Again, I urge you to consult with your doctor and get your doctor's approval before implementing any dietary or lifestyle changes with the intent to treat an illness so that they can point out any possible pitfalls or dangers that you or I do not see.
      Praying for you, man.

    That is a very well constructed and short video man. I have a question. I understand that insoluble fiber majorly comes from leafy green vegetables, so in that case what will be best time to introduce fermented food into diet? I was thinking to start adding sauerkraut into my diet.

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sidharth, I'm no doctor so this is just my personal opinion rather than medical advice. That being said I think fermented vegetables can be introduced as soon as possible. I wish I had started them sooner while healing. Yes sauerkraut does happen to be considered roughage, so that's a gray area. I'd probably still risk it myself and consume sauerkraut even though it is considered roughage. I'd risk it because I think the benefits of fermented vegetables outweigh any harm that roughage might do. However, if I wanted to play it safe and avoid roughage, I would make my fermented vegetables from carrots which are considered to be tubers. Hope that helps
