When I was in my worst flare about 2.5 years ago I lost 40lbs as a 52 year old 180lbs male. They nearly cut my Colon out too. The meds were not even working. In 2020 I stumbled upon your vids and other resources out there. I too learned that diet was a key to remission. So a big thank you to you during my dark days. Your videos gave me hope. I'm now happily in full remission. I'm back at 180Lbs thanks to your diet and yes, maintenance meds. I firmly believe tho that the diet helped the meds be able to do their job.
Fermented foods really seemed to work for me. They are consumed daily. I eat 80-90% full gut friendly, non-inflammatory diet every day. 10-20% of the time I can enjoy what everyone else is eating with no issues! Just had a full Colonoscopy 3 weeks ago and all was good. Since I've been in remission my digestive tract has never been better. I also notice my tastes have changed. I crave the fermented foods. Kimchi & Sauerkraut are 2 of my favorites. Maybe one day I can move to a med free life as well.

I have a very good feeling that IBD is on the rise because of synthetic liquid spices, in america people love their spicy foods but don't know that its the most irritable liquid that you can put into your system, quit the asian spices like sriracha and american spicy foods and you'll see that inflammation go away for good. Gl to all.

Kenny helped save my life back in 2020 after being sick for 20 years with UC. I will forever be grateful for everything he and his wife did for me!
It's been a year since my last flare(and it wasn't a bad flare at all). I've had my ups and downs but I feel SO much better and am inspired every day to eat right and change any negative thoughts I might be thinking. I know God brought this man into my life in the process of overcoming this disease.
Watch episode 10, like he said, guys. It's a game-changer if you STICK WITH IT. Consistency and mental toughness are some of the main keys. Believing I was going to heal was one of the biggest factors. Praying for all who find this video. :)

Same here - I stumbled across many of the things Kenny talks about by chance BEFORE I had even heard of him - when I got my first colitis free colonoscopy- I wondered if my new diet was the cause - then I researched it and found Kenny - I fast a lot and eat 1 meal a day - lots of live yoghurt- NO SUGAR and low carbs - lots of veg and less fruit -I make my own kefir but eat sparingly . I do a lot of excercise

Im happy to hear that you tracked you experience. I was diagnosed and was able to control it into remission after 2-3 months following a strict diet plan and anti-inflammatory supplementation. After the symptoms go away, its so easy to go back to the regular bad eating habits. I blame the united states food industry because nearly everything sold in restaurants or the grocery store is loaded with poisons that cause inflammation, destroy intestinal linings, and destroy gut microbiome. This also includes fruits and vegetables. Its frikin crazy, but many are waking up to this reality.

Thank you, Kenny, for your videos. I was diagnosed in 2019. So many doctors didn't take me seriously until I was undeniably sick. They prescribed me antibiotics and Ibuprofen which are the two worst things to take if you have UC. I almost died because my body couldn't retain any water. I learned that doctors don't know everything, so I went on TH-cam for answers. I found your videos and a few others. I followed your diet instructions along with the gaps diet. I also took CBD oil and avoided major stress. I have been in remission ever since and have not needed any medication for it. I am glad you are happy and healthy too. Thank you for your help. Keep it up!

You're an inspiration Kenny! Thanks for posting your videos on UC. Your videos gave me much needed encouragement and advice during some tough times. For me, infusions of remicade saved me, which I started during my second hospitalization. I've regained my strength and weight, and I feel normal again. My colonoscopy showed some lingering mild colitis in one part of my colon. -But following your advice of drinking filtered water, kefir smoothies, and bone broth, and exercising and sleeping, I know I'll continue to stay healthy!

Kenny, love your stuff. I can’t express how appreciative I am of all your research and how you’ve used it to help those of us who can’t stop peeing out Big Red out of their butts 😂.
Anyway, have you heard of the SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet)? Ive done that program in the past with mixed results. I went about 3 years without a flare or any symptoms not following any specific regimen after giving SCD a decent shot. I was also eating a lot of fermented foods I made myself, my favorite one being kimchi. However, after a colonoscopy in 2021 I’ve been in and out of a pretty wicked flare. I have never taken the traditional meds because I don’t believe in them but this time around I’ve had to go on a handful of rounds of prednisone. I’ve used the SCD in the past with decent results at times, but this time around of trying it, it seems to not be taking as well. I am interested in your program but one thing I’ve figured out is right now my guts DO NOT like rice and potatoes. Which is why I’m back on SCD while I’m in this flare. I’d love to be doing the fermented veggies and kefir but all of those things tear me up and send me running to the bathroom currently. I guess my real question is have you tried SCD and if you did what was your experience? It’s VERY strict and hard to stick to. Thanks in advance!

Main takeaway...besides eating gut helping foods, don't eat junk food or food that humans weren't eating 100 years ago. Probably best to stay away from seed oils and refined sugars. Just eat meat and fruit and some vegetables. Drink clean water. One thing that got me out of a flare super fast was drinking 12-16 ounces or celery juice every four hours and reverse osmosis water in between for three days. Day four and five I did the same thing but had a medium banana in the morning. I continued to juice and slowly added foods back into my diet for the next couple months. In those first couple of days of juicing I had bad gas and that continued for a few months. But within three days of juicing and by end of day five I was out of the really bad flare that I had been in. I also experimented with the carnivore diet before that but wasn't strict enough with it but I will say it helped a lot and probably would have done the trick had I been strict with it but the downside to the carnivore diet is the extreme weight loss.

Hello, quick reminder I am not a doctor or dietician. The following information should NOT be taken as a substitute for medical advice NOR be acted upon without the approval and supervision of a licensed physician.
That being said, in my experience, just about any type of food can potentially be irritating during a flare. I would recommend avoiding the fermented vegetables as the insoluble fiber content may further irritate the inflamed areas inside the intestines. I would recommend as soft of foods as possible when flaring. Bone broth, small amounts of kefir (if you can tolerate dairy, and the increase in probiotics from the kefir doesn't cause any increased symptoms), really soft fruits like ripe bananas, maybe some peeled mashed potatoes and high quality meats. I would recommend watching my boot camp episode 10 for some more info! Hope that helps.

And also wondered if you’ve ever considered the carnivore diet? Thanks again for the great videos you continue to put out!!

Glad you enjoy the videos, thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, I have done a few gut microbiome tests before. I was sponsored by Ombre at one point and am still sponsored by Viome. Viome has been my favorite for years even before they became a sponsor. Do you have any other GI mapping alternatives you recommend? I’m also thinking about taking a GI test from Genova in the future. As for the carnivore diet, I do think it has a place in the puzzle. I’m currently in the final stages of editing a nearly 60 minute video about the carnivore diet- hope to have it published in early January. I think it can be helpful, especially early on when any type of fiber might exacerbate highly inflamed areas in the colon/GI tract. There’s a few different components to how I would go about implementing a carnivore or animal based diet that will be better explained in the upcoming video! Hope you’re doing well and thank you for the support 👊🏻

My flare up was triggered by this diet. Kenny healed on a vegan diet at first, then omnivore. Prebiotics are like 1/4 of his program. Then again the anti inflammatory state of ketosis might be good enough to override the lack of prebiotics. But personally for me it’s a no go.

I was having mild discomfort in the abdomen area that led to constipation where I didn't Poop for 3 days. When I finally did it, I saw fragments of blood in my poop. So I went to a Homeopathy as suggested by my In-Laws. After taking Homeopathic medicine, my issue worsened and I saw dark blood drippings before I get poop and after I poop, I used to bleed a lot. This never happened until I started taking Homeopathic medicines. I took those medicines for 10 days and during this period I used to bleed every time I had Bowel Movements and I used to call up my Dr and tell him that the medicines are not working. He never said anything and said I need to continue.
I had no clue why I was bleeding and I don't have any family history of this kind of health issue, so I was freaking out.
I was anxious and discontinued the medication and went to the ER to get diagnosed. After my colonoscopy, I got diagnosed with UC in March 2022. It felt weird as I heard the name for the first time and I didn't understand the gravity of my situation. I hit remission immediately after taking Mesalamine 1200 OD 2 tablets a day and two 1G Mesalamine suppositories within 2 days of being diagnosed. I was happy again and I started eating my normal Non-Veggie Indian rich food again. I took these medications till Oct 2022 and I thought I was okay, and stopped the medications immediately without consulting my Doc.
10 days later, my UC got flared up. I thought to myself that after having medications every day for the past 6 months, I stopped taking them and my issue is back again.
So I tried Homeopathic medication again for 20 days and it worsen my condition. So I stopped it.
I struggled to achieve remission again for the next two months. I finally did get into remission in Feb 2023.
In March 2023, in the month of Ramadan, since I started fasting, I got the UC flared up again. So, I stopped fasting after 20 days and started Prebiotics and Gut-friendly diet.
The diet did not help and I lost over 9 lbs. I continued the Diet anyway as I thought it will take some time to heal so I should keep going through the process. I kept bleeding profusely in every Bowel Movement and I was off medications and with a flared condition for the next two months till the first week of May 2023 when I gave up and finally decided to go back to the Hospital for treatment again.
I got an earful from the Doctor and now my medications include a Steroid-Enema "Hydrocortisone Acetate Foam 10%w/w-Entofoam" which I take twice a day along with 1g Mesalamine suppositories twice a day and 2 tablets of Mesalamine OD in a day.
It took a week of these medications to achieve remission. Now, I have remission achieved for over a month now and I'm feeling better.
I need help with the diet though and I am still searching for answers that may heal my Auto-immune condition via food and not these medications. So until I am not certain of it, I will not stop the medications.
Oh, by the way, I got this Ulcerative Colitis- an Auto-Immune condition exactly after 6 months when I survived and recovered from COVID-19.

Ive been bleeding since august and was diagnosed in September. Im currently on suppository steroids and it isnt working. I first started treatment with mesalamine suppositories and didn’t work either. My ulcerative colitis is the proctitis kind. My stool is mostly normal but loads of blood. Im so tired of looking at blood n mucus when I evacuate. I want to be positive but I’m so tired. Suffering from fibromyalgia doesn’t help either. Suggestions are w3lcomed. Thanks.

Kenny, wondering why you would even do a colonoscopy in 2022 after having one in 2021?
I mean, if you were feeling good and all was going well, why do it so frequent?
I ask that because I followed your protocol and I'm currently in my 6th month of remission. I still do all the supplementary stuff, but I pretty much eat what I want and my bowel habits are great. I haven't had a colonoscopy since my initial one 2-years ago (which diagnosed my Ulceriative Colitis)
I'm leery to get a colonoscopy for a few reasons...
One is because I've worked so hard to balance my gut microbiome, and going through the colonoscopy will wipe it all clear and I'll have to start all over.
The other reason is because getting those damn colon biopsy's during the procedure cause damage to the colon and produce inflammation themselves...
Bottom line, I'm worried about having a flare after a colonoscopy... does that ever concern you?

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow that is great news that you've been in remission for 6 months! Really happy to hear that. And yes, it does concern me that the colonoscopy bowel prep will essentially flush out my gut microbiome and cause dysbiosis. However, I continue to get colonoscopies for a few reasons. I want to continue monitoring what's happening inside my colon so that I can document my journey and show people where I'm at. This also allows me to make course corrections based on what the colonoscopy results are. Like this colonoscopy for example- even though I felt good there was still some inflammation in the colon. Now that I know that, I can start working to really improve in that area, become more disciplined in my protocol, etc. Also, colonoscopies are a very effective way to find and remove any pre-cancerous polyps that may be developing inside the colon. Since I've had polyps in the past, I want to make sure I'm doing my due diligence and getting colonoscopy screens when necessary. I understand there are risks to getting colonoscopies, but there are also risks to not getting them as well. I do think it's a good idea to be extremely disciplined with diet and exercise as soon as possible after a colonoscopy to rebuild/fortify the gut microbiome as there are likely going to be changes to the gut microbiome after drinking the liquid bowel prep. I definitely plan to be more disciplined after colonoscopies moving forward. As you think about whether or not to proceed with colonoscopies in the future, I definitely recommend consulting and working closely with your doctor as you make a decision. Again, really glad you're doing so well and wishing you all the best!

Curious, how have your calprotectin tests tracked? What I mean to ask is if you have a record of your tests when you were in bad shape, and then more recently?
It seems they are not only good indicator of colon inflammation but can also be used to detect polyps, let alone Colon Cancer.
Myself - my highest CP score was over 3,000, I took one last month with a score of 10... (thanks to following your protocol and a LOT of patience and effort... which people need to realise it takes.

With that being said, in my opinion I don’t think it’s a good idea to force something like cabbage juice if it’s causing an increase in symptoms. I guess you could try decreasing the amount of cabbage juice to see if you can tolerate amounts. Otherwise I’d probably suggest ditching the cabbage juice and sticking to something that is helping like you said the celery juice is. I like the benefits that cabbage juice has to offer, but if it’s actively causing an increase in symptoms than I think the negatives outweigh the positives in that situation. Hope that helps. Sorry to hear that. Have you ever supplemented with psyllium husk? It can be very helpful for constipation. Though, you should talk to your doctor about using it beforehand to go over the necessary precautions. Don't want to take too much as that can potentially constipate you even more or potentially cause a bowel blockage. But, if the minimum effective dose is taken with an adequate amount of water then it can significantly soften and bulk up bowel movements and increase regularity. I sometimes blend around 1/4 to 1/2 of a tablespoon into my smoothies, but I recommend discussing the dosage with your doctor.
Other than psyllium, I wonder if a smoothie consisting of blueberries, bananas, avocado, and kefir would help. This is probably my favorite smoothie recipe that really made a big improvement in my health. It's full of prebiotics from the fruit, and probiotics from the kefir. Really great for the gut microbiome.

Whilst I agree that being symptom free healthy is the end goal, having mild inflammation still shows a sign of immune system dysfunction. Given that you're young, and have many years ahead of your life, this immune system dysfunction can manifest in other areas of your body as years go by. A good example of this is your doctor now thinks your diagnosis is Crohn's disease. As everyone with IBD knows, IBD is a silent killer. I think you have done a great job getting into remission, but saying that you are healed from UC is false information to your followers. This is not even classed as remission. As much as I love the content you put out, you are still technically and lucky to be in a symptom free flare up. Although fermented foods are extremely important, your theory that fermented foods heal IBD, especially in the form of raw milk kefir, no longer holds true.

    • @team_honnas
      @team_honnas  ปีที่แล้ว +8

I understand the points you’ve made and I think your thoughts are very fair. However, I’d like to point out a few things and explain some aspects that I disagree with. Firstly, I’ve taken very intentional steps over the last several years to stop using the word “healed” and have instead moved towards using the term “clinical remission”. While there is not a set definition for “clinical remission” in regards to IBD, it is generally agreed upon to mean the absence of most or all symptoms, though inflammation can still be present. Different papers have slightly varying definitions with different ways to score clinical activity. So, I have done my best to update the words I use to accurately describe the level of health I am experiencing. And I think clinical remission is the best term to use in my situation. It is a top priority for me to be honest and transparent with my audience. Which is why I make a point to use precise language like the term “clinical remission” at the beginning of my videos, and why I share my colonoscopy results even though inflammation was present. I am trying to chart a better way forward for individuals with IBD, but I am still very much human and I make mistakes. I try my very best to correct the mistakes I make as I move forward. Also, based on my colonoscopy, since inflammation was present, I would not be classified as being in endoscopic remission. But, since I am still asymptomatic, I do classify as being in clinical remission. I do agree that I am fortunate to be symptom free since I have not been following my protocol with as much discipline as I should have. However, I’ve never said that I think consuming fermented foods in isolation are enough to reverse IBD (to the best of my knowledge I’ve never said that, if I did that was wrong). My theory, based on what I’ve read on pubmed, is that optimizing the gut microbiome as a whole could potentially reverse IBD. Part of optimization of the gut microbiome includes fermented probiotic foods. But it also includes proper prebiotic food consumption, clean water, and appropriate amounts of exercise. And gut microbiome optimization after being diagnosed with IBD is an active process. Meaning that gut microbiome optimization requires daily cultivation. It’s not something that can be achieved once, and then ignored. If you achieve a stable, healthy, eubiotic gut microbiome and then abandon the things that helped you achieve that healthy gut microbiome, then it is likely going to become unhealthy again without proper upkeep. Leading to the return of inflammatory states. So in my case, I followed my 4 gut microbiome optimizing keys very loosely over the last 2 years. I was still following them, just not with as much discipline as I should have. But, even following them loosely seemed to be enough to keep my gut microbiome in a stable enough condition that prevented the return of symptoms, though it wasn’t enough to prevent the return of mild inflammation inside the colon. So, I actually disagree and think that my theory is still likely accurate- optimizing your gut microbiome with daily cultivation through probiotic fermented foods, prebiotic soluble fiber intake, clean water intake, and consistent exercise will reverse the inflammatory conditions that lead to IBD. This is what I did for about two years leading up to my 2018 colonoscopy which showed that I was in clinical, endoscopic, and histologic remission. I think that the major mistake that I made was not continuing to cultivate my gut microbiome after the 2018 colonoscopy. I should have continued to be disciplined with cultivating my gut microbiome. However, I became less disciplined in following my 4 principles (because I was not experiencing any symptoms, I thought I didn’t need to be as disciplined) and allowed my gut microbiome to regress again to the point where symptoms were not present, but mild inflammation inside the colon was present. So anyway, those are my thoughts, thank you for sharing yours. I’m working every day to improve in the areas I need to improve on and, again, do what I can to help chart a better way forward for individuals suffering from IBD. I hope you are doing well and wish you all the best!

Only thing I would add to this is:
      - I was speaking to a man the other day who “healed” severe Crohn’s 30 years ago. He’s been symptom free since then with 0 symptoms but still has some mild ulcers.
At the end of the day, some mild ulcers but living 30 years without symptoms is pretty ideal and A LOT of people if not MOST with IBD would take that.

@@team_honnas Kenny, your info isn't "likey accurate " it's highly accurate.
Don't downgrade the words because of someone not paying full attention to your video.
