    Thank you for sharing! I was diagnosed with stage 2 thyroid cancer and had my thyroid removed. I also had the radioactive treatment, but I had a very big dose (isolation for 8 days). I’m now cancer free and taking synthroid everyday. I’m so happy to be healthy and that I’m able to take care of my little ones. GOD bless!

      JadiNe 18 Shouldn’t be dangerous after the isolation period is over. Radiation is washed out at that time.

      Don't take the pill. I took it and I found out that later on in life, that same radioactive pill that u took eons ago, will effect a nerve in your neck and cause it to fail (doesn't always happen but it can). I think the surgery is better because at least u still have a piece of your thyroid that will function and there are other ways to cure yourself with some holistic stuff. I learned this later but can't change my choice now. Just research before u trust your doctor's words.

I’ve had Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism for my whole life, which unfortunately means I didn’t notice any symptoms; I’ve always been skinny, got headaches, never slept etc. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was twelve and went into a thyroid storm. I recently had my blood drawn from lab Corp and like many other thyroid blood work I’ve done most of my adult life said my thyroid is fine. My health just kept declining and I was just miserable. My husband took me to another dr. And they drew blood that was tested in a private lab. To my surprise the results showed I have hypothyroidism. They have found 2 solid nodules which I’m going to need them to biopsy. If you continue to have symptoms of hypo or hyperthyroidism after a few negative lab test results, get a second opinion! It would have been nice to have started treatment sooner. Thanks Jenny for sharing!

    Hi,
    I was dx with hyperthyroidism in July. I was at the doorstep for a thyroid storm and was hospitalized for nearly a week. It was horrific and traumatizing to say the least. I am currently on disability, but looking forward to going back to work soon. Thank you for sharing your story. I still have my thyroid and am taking anti thyroid meds to keep it in check. My endo wants me to get rid of my thyroid because of how severe my case was. He told me two things: if I were older, I would not have made it and said it was good that I had a healthy heart (I’m 40) and if I had waited one more day in getting treatment, I would have not made it. I wish people would talk more about thyroid issues as I never heard of this disease and thought I was going through peri menopause/menopause.

    Thank you for chatting about this! I’ve been misdiagnosed for years-I was finally diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Hashimotos last year...after having a partial thyroidectomy in 2012. I would like to add that my endocrinologist only checked T3, T4, and TSH. My numbers were always in “normal range”.
    It was not until a naturopathic doctor ran a full thyroid panel that I was diagnosed. It makes a difference when you’re on the right dose and vitamin regiment. You feel normal again when everything is in check! I hope you’re feeling better and it sucks to have all these symptoms!

I told the heart doctor I feel 24/7 that feeling you get when a cop is behind you and you dont know if you were speeding. He said its adrenaline that's the worst. I just want that part gone. I look as if I'm a crack addict itching and shaking. They did a TSI blood that's how I found out. Now I have to see an encronolgist. Good luck.

    I was diagnosed w hyperthyroidism in 2018. This disease has some of the worst symptoms on the body that can affect your everyday life. My doctor prescribed methimazole which I was taking for about 1 yr & three months. But that medication can eventually do a number on your liver and kidneys if taken for a long period of time so I didn’t wanna continue taking the medication. I had to keep up w my LFTs(liver function test) to make sure that my liver was still intact while on the medication. It’s just way too much! My Endocrinologist introduced me to RAI therapy but then assured me that I had to be on the methimazole for up to a year b/c in some cases it (methimazole) reverses the hyperthyroidism. After the yr & some months was up I was administered to take small dosages week by week then just stop the meds. W/o the meds I became ill my body couldn’t function I was back to being weak, having hand tremors, and always irritated w anxiety etc. I was put back on my medication but then had to stop taking the meds for the thyroid uptake which measures how much hormone the body is giving off as well as how much RAI your body will need for the treatment. After that,I just received my radioactive iodine therapy last week & it’s been rough. Hopefully I’ve made the right decision. 🙏🏾

    • @sharonwilliams8411

      TamaraC Hi Tamara! After the treatment I became ill but that was due to the RAI treatment destroying the thyroid function. I had my labs done about 2 months afterwards & my numbers were really hi. My doctor explained to me that it was going to take time for me to feel better because my thyroid was releasing extremely hi amounts of t3 & t4 (this was due to the radioactive iodine treatment ). I received the treatment in August 2019. During my second doctors visit around the end of October my doctor put me back on the methimazole (a low dosage) b/c my body couldn’t function, but my Endocrinologist assured me that sometimes it could take up to six months for the RAI treatment to kill the function. You know everyone’s body reacts differently. By November 2019 I was put on 5 mg of methimazole. By December I was starting to feel a whole lot better, it was a feeling that I can’t describe. I was so use to feel tired, weak, achy bones & tremors that when I began to feel better it just felt so good. Meanwhile I went back to work & was still taking the methimazole & missed one of my Endocrinology appointments. Fast forward to the end of February 2020 I started to feel horribly sick again😩 I thought I was just overworking myself. So I was resting eating well balanced meals and still taking my 5mg of methimazole. So now it’s March 2020 I started to feel even worse & started to notice that I was losing my hair.... it began thinning out. I thought I came in contact w COVID-19. I was rushed to the hospital! They was running test & did some blood work. This is how I found out that my levels was through the roof they were really high . So they diagnosed me w hypothyroidism. Now I’m taking the medication Levothyroxine. It took about two weeks but I’m feeling much better. I just got my Labs done yesterday I will update you when I receive my results.

    Instead of the radioactive iodine i chose to go the medication route with methimazole and it was going very well for about 6 months and then I was having extreme pain in my arms, chest pain,shortness of breathe, and random palpitations went back to the doctors and he took me off it and put me on Metropolol and anxiety medication been taking that for a few months now and it has turned me into a zombie and have been felling down. I will be going to the doctor soon again and I will be going the radioactive iodine route now. Wish I would have done this from the beginning but was afraid of the radioactive part and cancer later on but there isn’t anymore options. Best of luck to anyone going through this!

    Also diagnosed with Graves Disease and hyperthyroidism in 2009 at 18 years old. I was always very skinny growing up and only weighed around 100 lbs at the time I was diagnosed (though I was eating ALL the time). My resting BP was 180 and I definitely experienced tremors, hot/cold intolerance, and mood swings. Went 3 years just on medication then in 2012 decided to have a thyroidectomy. Now on 112 mcg of levothyroxine. Definitely still have my good and bad days.

    Yes! I can relate! I was diagnosed with hoshimoto’s hyperthyroid 3 years ago and was given the smallest dosage of nature throid and iodine . The symptoms you mentioned were the same symptoms i had , tremors and heart palpitations including hot flashes, feeling depressed and just fatigue and weakness in my joints/muscles. All these symptoms only happened in the past two months or so. I though I was having heart failure. My recent blood work showed my T3-T4 levels were very high, off the charts and was told to stop the nature throid and iodine immediately. So I think it was the meds that caused my hormone overload after taking them for 3 years, probably didnt need to take them for that long. I was pretty upset with that doctor because I would always ask him did I need to stop taking the nature throid? he would say continue taking it. My new doctor wants to make sure that my body can get back to normal levels on my own without meds. I am going to use some natural supplements like bugleweed and motherwort tea, gluten-free diet as prescribed by my doctor, Brazil nuts for my selenium and eat foods that have high concentrations of iodine, take omega 3 fatty acid supplement and foods, vitamin B, C & D if needed and magnesium which will help the tremors I read. I’m really diligent with getting my thyroid back to normal because I don’t want to be on a pill the rest of my life. Wishing you good health and wellness!

    • @sharonb8545
      @sharonb8545 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Clarissa Lucas oh my, I don’t remember , it’s been 2 years. After stopping the iodine and nature thyroid My endocrinologist suggested an ultrasound which discovered nodules then I had fine needle aspiration done, thankfully nothing cancerous! I was put on a very low dose of methimazole every other day for about a year and after recent bloodwork this year May I was told to stop taking it because my thyroid hormone wasn’t hyper anymore but now I need bloodwork to check my antibodies. At this point I can only rely on a strict gluten free diet, exercise and natural supplements. Hopefully the nodules won’t grow otherwise I would have to have surgery if they start getting in the way of swallowing. My endocrinologist left and moved away now I’m just relying on my primary physician for now.

    I remember being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism/Grave’s Disease when I was in 6th grade. I had to miss out on 2 weeks of school, and during the time I was in school, I had to be taken into the nurse’s office a couple times a day and eat some snacks to keep my weight up - mind you, I was very skinny at the time and unable to gain weight. As it got worse, I would get these very loud and uncontrollable hiccups, plus my neck looked swollen. My parents and I weren’t really aware of the symptoms at the time of this happening, but once we did notice, I was taken into the hospital to get radiation treatment. Fast forward to today and I currently have to take one small pill every day (the dosage size varies sometimes) in order to keep my thyroid stable for the rest of my life. I hope anyone who reads this is able to gain some more knowledge on the subject and thanks for making this video, Jenny! 🙂

    Thankyou for sharing this video. I have graves disease. I was diagnosed 7 years ago and was prescribed with carbinazole tablets. My symptoms was heart palpitations, frequent toilet breaks, weight loss, bulging eyes, hair loss and thinning, trembling hands, feeling nervous. After 2 years I was off the medication as my bloods came back normal. 9 months after being off the medication symptoms started returning. I was back on the carbinazole. I went through this process 3 times until I was told I needed either a operation to remove the tyroid glands or radioiodine treatment. I went along with the iodine treatment and now I have hypothyroidism. I feel tired, lethargic, hungry all the time. I am taking levotyroxine medication currently on 100mg . Doctors are trying to get the right dose sorted.

      I think anyone who has thyroid problems in their family should be vigilant and get routine checks. Thyroid disease does run in my family and when I was younger, the doctor found a few nodules on my thyroid. I was told that because of my family history of thyroid disease and the evidence of existing nodules, I will be at a greater risk of developing a thyroid disease. Years later, I just went into the doctors office because I had an uncomfortable tightness in my throat, doctor told my that my thyroid may be slightly inflamed. I have a follow up appointment in a few weeks

    My doctor’s term for it is being allergic of your own body. I found out about it 3 years ago but had the symptoms since 6 months before although we thought it was depression because of my insomnia, anxiety, sadness, moodiness and all of that. But we finally went to the doctor when simply standing up made me tired. I had some episodes where I’d ‘faint’ even while lying down when my heart pounds like crazy. The local doctor was... needless to say, terrible. According to my new doctor, she has been giving me meds that wouldn’t allow me to take RAI so I’m restarting the medication process before my RAI treatment on May. I want to get better soon. To be perfectly honest, I hate this skinny body. I hate the itchiness. I hate constantly feeling tired. Hopefully, it’ll be successful. I mean, it was successful for my mom :) Her only problem now is how to remain fit.
    Oh! And tip!
    Yoga, friends. Yoga is so fantastic. It calms me down and since you can’t do rigorous exercise when you have Hyperthyroidism, it’s the perfect form of exercise to keep your body healthy. Stay out of coffee too. I haven’t had coffee for 3 years now 😂

    Hey Jen! I worked at a CVS pharmacy for 2 years and I had so many patients come in with hypothyroidism that requested brand Synthroid instead of generic levothyroxine. I would always tell patients that they’re exact same thing and the generic is a fraction of the cost! Save yourself some money and switch to generic! Plus, synthroid is harder to find and keep in stock in most pharmacies. I’m glad you’re feeling better though! 💊💉

    • @VickyGoss
      @VickyGoss 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kelly Marie You are misinformed. There is absolutely a narrow window of margin with thyroid hormones, fillers and inactive ingredients do make a difference. They are not the same. They are "almost" the same. The consistency of generic isn't as stable as the named brand, it's inferior. If you still have a thyroid gland that produces any of its own hormones, then generic should work well but for those of us with no thyroid gland who are "thyroid hormone dependent" to live, it really does make a difference.

    So sorry to hear that you've gone through Graves too. I elected to have a total thyroidectomy, and it was a great choice for me. I noticed the same exact issues as you. I laughed when you mentioned the eyeliner issue. My resting heart rate at diagnosis was 130 - miserable! If you have trouble converting synthetic thyroid replacement to free t3 (which is what the body uses to power the metabolism), you could consider trying natural thyroid, such as nature-throid or armour. Switching from synthroid to nature-throid has radically changed my life!! Don't ever let a doctor tell you your labs are "close enough." You deserve to feel your best. 😊

    I was diagnosed 5 1/2 years ago with Graves’ disease. I noticed shaky hands and weight loss first . Weakness in legs and my eyes were Bulging. Always hungry!! Very hot and it was winter/ snowing out side. It’s been a journey with hyper active thyroid. I recommend everyone just like you said if you feel these symptoms or any other sort of weirdness... get blood work done. Health is so important. My mom went thru the same thing but around 30 and I was 21 so yeah a difference in how early I got it. Tomo I go for my radioactive iodine treatment. It apparently isn’t healthy to be on methimozole for long period of time as it can effect the liver. This is the best option for me at this point and I’m happy that this is getting taken care of. Thanks for sharing your story. Xoxo

    I have Graves’ disease I was diagnosed when I was 9 in 2014 I’m now 14 and on May the 10th I’m having the radio active iodine treatment. The only thing I’m looking forward to is 1 month off school 🏫 i went to the child clinic last year and they told me they couldn’t prescribe me with the treatment because it wasn’t common in my age group they said you are usually 16-18 so you would be with the adult clinic anyways, so they gave me a brief description on what it would be like they only said 1 week off school or they said I could have a operation to remove my thyroid completely but for me that wasn’t really a option because of all the things they said could go wrong (they said they could end up hitting a vocal chord and I could sound different) but I was so scared and said no to it so they told me to go to the adult clinic made a appointment in October so I went and they said that it wasn’t 1 week off school it was 3 and a half to 4 weeks off school but because of my age my doctor had to check to see if I was able to take it so I went to the hospital at the start of the mont and now I’m having the treatment in exactly 47 days 🙃 I actually can’t wait to have it done and have this shitty illness over and done with I’ve dealt with it long enough and I’m so happy I don’t have to wait another 2-4 years to have it done 👌🏼

    just a few days ago I had several symptoms like high heart rate, sweating and shaking and nervousness, the doctor suspects it is hyperthyroidism and tomorrow I will get the test which I believe it is, right now only taking a beta blocker propranolol 20mg each 6 hrs walking to the bathroom makes me so tired, the heart rate is fine now but I still feel tired and my ears pop, I felt my life was ruined until I saw your video, if I have graves then there is hope I can have a normal life again, I see you so well that it makes me happy and hopeful. thank you

    Its crazy how common this is but can manifest so differently with everyone. I had hyperthyroidism at 22 and it was caught at a check up. I had 10 (!) huge growths on my thyroid and had to get it removed because of the high cancer risk. Luckily it was fine, but oddly enough when i first got the blood test my levels were pretty normal! Im on that 175 levothyroxine life now and have discovered other health issues related to my thyroid like pre-diabetes, high tri glycerides, and vitamin d deficiency. Its manageable with medication and diet but its definitely a challenge that most people just don’t understand. Like yes, i look mostly fine, but i feel like CRAP.

    • @cdavis0627
      @cdavis0627 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lily8909 Sorry to hear of your issues. I had Graves and a total thyroidectomy too. If you feel like crap on levo (i did too), you might consider trying a natural desiccated porcine thyroid replacement medication, such as Armour. I switched about a year ago. It wa a very easy transition, and it has changed my quality of life. I no longer think about how I'm feeling -- I just LIVE. Not all doctors are open to prescribing non- synthetics, but there are modern, thinking doctors who will. It's a pharmaceutical manufactured under rigorous controls and quality checks just like synthroid and the other synthetics.

    For anybody with thyroid problems, try to keep your own set of records about your bloodwork levels and how you felt during those times so that you’ll know at what levels you feel better than at other levels. Because just because someone’s levels are within the “normal” range doesn’t mean they’re going to feel great in the higher end of the “normal” spectrum versus the lower end of the “normal” spectrum. Lots of love and healing to anybody that reads this, I personally know how hard it can be. ❤️

    I have Grave's, too. I've been watching you for years, and I can't believe we went through the same thing. I'm kinda scared to do radioactive iodine if my anti-thyroid isn't effective, though. Hearing your story makes it a little less daunting. Thank you for sharing and spreading awareness!

      And what was your diet after the treatment ?

    • @Viennafly1
      @Viennafly1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joanakorompis998 I'm actually still on an anti-thyroid (it's just a pill called methimazole). I feel a lot better, but a lot of things would feel better than untreated Graves. :) But when I started treatment, I was put on propranolol and methimazole. Over the years, I was able to get off propranolol and now am only taking a very small dose of methimazole. I tolerate it really well, and I haven't had to do an ablation (radioactive iodine). This is what worked for me though, not necessarily what's best for everyone. You'd be best off consulting your PCP or endocrinologist. I did adjust my diet though. I went vegan (for the animals) but it actually did help my Graves, too, which was a nice addition. It lowered my antibody level a LOT, and I do feel a lot better. Hope that helps!
