I remember seeing this trailer, thinking: "oh, cool! They're putting this game on Nintendo Switch Online" and then the sparkle appeared. At that moment I was the happiest person ever. This game IS my childhood.
I haven't played this game. But one thing I can say is that love can be infectious. I love seeing people reacting to something they hold dear and near with their childhood/past time and there is nothing to be ashamed about it since I have been there with the games have been rereleased/remaked/new installment. I hope this game does sell well.

Each time I get told by the seller that they can’t keep that game on the shelf. So this remake is a dream come true. I dont need Geno in Smash anymore. Geno in Smash was always a fallback dream because NOBODY ever believed they'd ever remake the game or give us a sequel. We all wanted to be with Geno again in any way possible, so Smash was one of those outlets. Screw Smash, this is MUCH better.

Some people may not understand this, but this has been seen as a lost dream since there were too many copyright issues for Nintendo to use it in the past and fans knew that Geno and Mallow, despite being beloved characters, would never be in a game ever again. This game is one that they never believed could be a remaster or even referenced again. Many didn’t dare to dream for a remake or even having it ported to Nintendo online. For me, this is a dream come true.

I’ve literally been voting for the guy since the Melee days. I think seeing people respond to this game coming out finally made me understand. This game was truly buried courtesy of Squareenix and Nintendo’s cutthroat antics. And despite it starting 2 beloved series in the Mario franchise, AND inspiring even further from the STRANGEST combination of Mario and Final Fantasy…it really hasn’t gotten its spotlight other than the adoring fans trying SO HARD to show people this delight exists. It’s been nearly 30 years, but people FINALLY get to see it. Closest we’ve ever gotten was the Wii re-release onto its shop, and Geno’s ONE reference in Superstar Saga which couldn’t even be brought back for its remake when Alphadream went down. (RIP) TLDR, people FINALLY unburied this one from under the woodwork where it NEVER should have been in the 1st place.
This is arguably 100 times better than getting Geno in smash. This is SMRPG as a franchise getting worldwide recognition. I, for one, couldn't be happier.

If only we could be lucky enough to get SquareEnix to realize how to make rpgs again. Turn-based with intricate storylines was their kingdom. Active fighting games disguised as rpgs is not the way to go. Squaresoft and Enix both knew how to make fantastic generation passing rpgs and then they got married and forgot where they came from.

Let this be a very hard lesson, not only to Nintendo but to every developer out there. The original formulas were amazing and there was never a need to reinvent the wheel. SquareEnix better pay attention specifically because they are dancing on a razors edge screwing around with the Final Fantasy series. We don't need flashy combat, we want the old formulas of the games that were made perfect to begin with.

I cannot begin to put into the words the joy and emotions i felt from this reveal. Never have i been so excited over a game announcement before. And seeing everyone else react nearly the same as me brings such a big smile to my face. This game holds so many fond memories for me and i never thought i'd see it be remastered, nintendo dropped a literal nuke of a direct and i CANNOT stop thinking about it!

I’ve literally been voting for the guy since the Melee days. I think seeing people respond to this game coming out finally made me understand.
This game was truly buried courtesy of Squareenix and Nintendo’s cutthroat antics. And despite it starting 2 beloved series in the Mario franchise, AND inspiring even further from the STRANGEST combination of Mario and Final Fantasy…it really hasn’t gotten its spotlight other than the adoring fans trying SO HARD to show people this delight exists.
It’s been nearly 30 years, but people FINALLY get to see it. Closest we’ve ever gotten was the Wii re-release onto its shop, and Geno’s ONE reference in Superstar Saga which couldn’t even be brought back for its remake when Alphadream went down. (RIP)
TLDR, people FINALLY unburied this one from under the woodwork where it NEVER should have been in the 1st place.
This is arguably 100 times better than getting Geno in smash.
This is SMRPG as a franchise getting worldwide recognition.

Ditto, I’ve spent this entire 48 hours obsessing over just what this moment means. Like me, the SMRPG fanbase has a very real and deep emotional connection to the game. You don’t see that often, especially for a one off that gets sidelined for 27 years, all those years we’re wishing for one thing and suddenly it finally comes true. How lucky are we?

I've never ever played any Mario games in my entire life but I'm a fan of RPG games, years later I would learn of Super Mario RPG but even to this day I'd never played it or own a copy even though I wanted to, now that a remake is finally being made I know I must get my hands on a copy of this remake hopefully this Christmas
You're in for a treat, for an almost 30 years old game, it's amazing to see how well it still holds up.
This game is up there with the best of the era, it doesn’t ask anything to the likes of FFVI or Chrono Trigger.

No chance anything could ever top this, this is at the same level as Elden ring. I'd be surprised if this remake didn't get a GotY award. Just the fact that 6 notes caused realization to kick in is proof of how much this game is ingrained in all the 90s kids brains.
Most of those people were not even born when the OG Cameout. For us old gamers, this remake hits harder. I was 14 when the OG Debuted 😢. Soo many nostalgic memories of the Original debuting, the Toys R Us reveal, Gamepro magazine promotion, Electronics Boutique, Babages, KB Toys. It hits harder for us older gamers twice as hard 😢

I hope this outsells all the newer paper mario games by such a wide margin that nintendo goes back to implimenting a proper experience system into future paper marios. That would be neat! Or better yet, maybe they'd make a super mario rpg 2!

If only we could be lucky enough to get SquareEnix to realize how to make rpgs again. Turn-based with intricate storylines was their kingdom. Active fighting games disguised as rpgs is not the way to go. Squaresoft and Enix both knew how to make fantastic generation passing rpgs and then they got married and forgot where they came from.

Let this be a very hard lesson, not only to Nintendo but to every developer out there. The original formulas were amazing and there was never a need to reinvent the wheel. SquareEnix better pay attention specifically because they are dancing on a razors edge screwing around with the Final Fantasy series. We don't need flashy combat, we want the old formulas of the games that were made perfect to begin with.
